It is entirely rationale and appropriate for senators to be very concerned with rogue DAs, but it is none of their business to correct.

I definitely want the Democrats defeated especially if failed Biden runs again, so winning is more important to me.

Moderates tend to win general elections. Whenever a party gets too far left or right, it risks a resounding defeat.

George McGovern ... Nixon mopped the floor with him.

Barry Goldwater ... LBJ crushed Barry.

Donald Trump ... Old Joe wins by 5m votes.

MAGA doesn't spell Trump, it's a state of mind and preference. Trump could die tomorrow and we would still believe in the principles that governed what he tried to do. Problem is DeSantis isn't that guy and nobody else is either.

I'm not sure a candidate can get too far left these days. One of our national anchor lines has snapped.

Liberal Democrats on the other side faced a similar dilemma in 2020. They loved Bernie, but could see after South Carolina he probably couldn't win a general election. Go with Old Joe or Stick with Bernie and lose to Trump? Now, some of them thought Bernie was an honest guy, talked his truth, etc. Fact is, a lot of us know what Bernie believes and don't want it. As a teacher, I got to know a lot of liberals and some honestly think Bernie has answers everyone wants. There isn't enough money in the universe to fund everything Bernie pushes. The only reason we don't know is that is no one has been crazy to try it.

MAGA types have a similar comprehension problem and have difficulty understanding that most women really don't like--indeed, won't accept--government telling the they have to stay pregnant. My mother was a small city mayor when I was growing up and lifelong Republican, but she was happy about Roe v. Wade. I don't know if she would be a Republican today.

Biden is far from governing as a centrist Democrat though like he promised. He's just another lying politician.

Sounds like your mother would be a pro-choice Independent like me if she were alive today.

There are huge numbers of folks in the political middle. Democrats will find it lonely and cold if they go too far. People don't work so they can support the guy down the street.

Rightwingers go too far, too. Book banning and messing with public education is never popular for long.

DAs are typically elected henchmen (henchpersons?), so there will always be plenty of DAs to go after targets.

    Both parties have henchmen.

That is a debatable contention and one reason the ECA needed to be repealed because it was so unclear. It would have gone to court had it somehow managed to get that far.

It's not really debatable. NOTHING in the ECA allowed Pence to do what Trump and Eastman were pushing Pence to do. It doesn't allow him to count "alternate" electors instead of the ones approved by the state's executive (in fact, it forbids it), it doesn't allow him to simply declare that some EC votes won't be counted at all (which is blatantly unconstitutional), it doesn't allow him to unilaterally sends votes back to the states, it doesn't allow him to just kick the vote to the House. Eastman later admitted that his plan wasn't kosher under the ECA, and Trump's allies tried to get the ECA declared unconstitutional.

They have already gone too far but the discontent is for not going farther. I don't believe there is a huge middle political group of voters. Some like to fool themselves but when they are alone in the booth they will vote the same as always. If you really believe either party can go too far, explain San Francisco.

The GOP continues to have as its leader a man who tried to overthrow our democratic elections. You don't get much more extreme than that.

And SOME believed it did. Just as the Dems thought they could get electors changed in previous elections. I don't. But it wasn't CRIMINAL.

Anyone who believes it did is completely illiterate. There are no exceptions.

When did Dems try to get electors changed? If you are talking about a half dozen or so Dems with no Senate support who wanted to send the votes of some states back, then you are making a wildly false comparison and you know it.

Not all of us share the belief of Trump and his supporters that democracy is a joke.

Do you know why there are so many practicing lawyers in the world? Because there's always disagreement about the laws and how they are applied.

In this instance it is entirely rational, not rationale, and appropriate for senators to be very concerned with rogue members of the Crazy.
