As one 'simple-minded' I prefer the only possible solution.
EU and the West stop to intrude in Russian businesses.
At best Russia stops any relation with its enemies and makes a huge wall around its borders.
Zero relations in any area would be the best solution.

The future of Russia is in Asia, any contact with dying EU is wasting of money and time.
Russia shall close all EU embassies and send EU to Hell.

Since 1991 EU insults Russians non-stop 24/7 , enough is enough.

The best engineering solution between EU and Russia ( including Belarus )

There are good and bad guys.
Good guys are of course USA/EU/NATO.
    Bad guys are RUSSIA/BELARUS/IRAN/CHINA/NK

Good guys are allowed to do any crime as they please, nothing happens
Bad guys are universal villains for any alleged wrongdoing.

Hopefully Russia stops any tolerance of such injustice soon.

The West organized the orange revolution in Ukraine and failed to do the same in Belarus.
Russians ( and Belorussians ) are tied up of this crimes and begin to protect themselves more effective.
Soon the world will know who paid money to terrorists who tried to kill Lukashenko and to transform Belarus in Ukraine 2.0
The guy arrested by Lukashenko is a paid agent of CIA and the U.S. State Department, one of organizers of the Genocide of Russians in Donbass

He begins to cooperate with investigators and tell the truth about those who behind terror attacks against Lukashenko

Oh I see....its the Ukranian fighter jet thing again.....before it was US/Nato jet....then it was pilot error/mechanical failure, plane hit geese, or it was military jet.....basically it was the BUK that shot it....while operated by Russki regulars.....not Ukranian coal miners with hunting rifles.....LOL.

The reaction of USA/EU/NATO to numerous crimes of Ukrainian junta against humanity is one of reasons why Russians demand from Putin and Russian government to break any relationship with hostile West. Ukrainian Nazi animals feed by the West like Haiti's tontonmakutas before are allowed to commit any wrongdoing against Russians without punishment. Were are reports of western presstitutes when Azov nazis raped and murdered dozens of Russian toddlers in vicinity of Slavjansk.
Putin shouldn't talk with Biden, Russia will be of course cheated again.
The best reaction to the West is too break any contacts and to develop good weapons.
Only then USA/EU/NATO can be afraid and stop their planes for suddenly nuclear attack of Russia

Russia has only two allies: its army and fleet

    Russia don't try,it creates facts:
No one can attack Russia without its response, therefore Russians love Putin and say to the West p... off!

LOL - Vlad the Invader isn't worth the effort required to hate him. He's been a contemptible excuse for a primate since he served the Soviet machine of oppression in East Germany.

Looks like the people they oppressed for 40+ years don't like or trust the Kremlin, either. Especially, with a former KGB agent running that country...

If not so hated by you 'Vlad' Russia would be already divided in twenty parts and more as 90% Russians died due to 'democratic reforms'
    That was the plan.
Of coutrse Putin isn't an angel, but he saved Russian People from 'democracy' which swallows up Ukraine now and quickly transformed it to the worst shi.holes of the third world
Below is the map of Russia according to dreams USA/EU and NATO.
Russians know it and don't let be fooled again like in 1990s

    Oppression?
The three Baltic lilliputian 'states' were the best developed industry locations in the former USSR and the highest GDP.
Through the thirty years 'democracy' all industry is gone, they main revenues are reselling of wares produced in China or EU
Their youth fled to the western EU countries and they are interesting for no one except NATO soldiers.
Even whores from Romania don't go to 'work' to Lithuania, Estonia or Latvia.
Either teens or retired peoples, only few have money or interest for sex

    Spare me the propaganda.

The enemies of self-determination will always have a lame excuse for the dictatorships they crave, and leaning on a crutch that is 30 years old doesn't make their excuses any less lame.

For the record, I despised what Bill Clinton's friends George Soros, the Harvard Boys, et al, did in Russia in the 1990s and Clinton deserves a foot up his ass for squandering the opportunity of establishing trust and good relations with the Russian people following the collapse of the USSR. He screwed up BIG time, and it's ironic that the very people who can't stop bleating and babbling "Russia! Russia! Russia!" (Democrats) helped pave Vladimir Putin's path to power.

Sadly, Putin appears to be no better than Clinton and his corrupt friends. I've seen Putin's wealth estimated at anywhere between $70 to $200 million dollars, and his salary only pays $187,000/year. There's no way he could have amassed that amount of money on his salary alone.

If a corrupt autocrat is the leadership the Russian people want, that's their problem not mine. There's an old saying that "people get the government they deserve" and that statement was originally made with the people living in Czarist Russia in mind. No doubt Russia is more technologically advanced than it was in the 19th Century but in many respects the country and its government haven't changed much at all, which is unfortunate. I think the Russian people deserve better, but maybe they don't.

    Oppression.

I have friends who lived in the former USSR, Czechoslovakia and Communist Bulgaria, and they have nothing good to say about the authoritarian socialist governments that wrecked their lives and their countries.

Partially I can agree with you, of course Putin isn't an angel, of course corruption in Russia isn't less as in EU or USA.
But he saved the country from totally devastation after Yeltsin's time.
Russians wanted to have a good relationship with the West between 1991 - 2014.
After the genocide in Donbass eyes of Russians were suddenly opened and the West isn't attractive for them anymore.

You know well my attitude to lefts and socialism since almost as 13 years.
I hope you don't forgotten I was the biggest 'basher' of Putin on PF until 2014.
Exactly said until the war in Donbas and thousands of murdered Russians there.
Any socialist system is a trash, nevertheless three Baltic 'sisters' enjoyed the wealthy life within USSR and Russians paid for it.

I can understand why Putin is popular with the Russian people.

As I pointed out earlier, I also understand why many Russians are upset with the U.S., and angry about what Bill Clinton and his corrupt cronies did to their country during the 1990s. I'm angry about what happened, too. Not only did they screw the Russian people over, they screwed the American people over, too:

    The Harvard Boys Do Russia
After seven years of economic "reform" financed by billions of dollars in U.S.
    By Janine R. Wedel

    MAY 14, 1998
    https://www.thenation.com/article/archive/harvard-boys-do-russia/

Corrupt bastards, and their greed cost the American and Russian people the opportunity to become friends and allies after the fall of the Soviet Union. That's a lost opportunity that we will never get back. It's infuriating to think about, and it was probably the worst geostrategic blunder the U.S. government has made during my lifetime.

Then to compound the mistakes they made in Russia, Clinton & Co. got us involved in the Balkans and worst of all Kosovo when there was no need for our country to get involved there. The wars and problems associated with the break-up of Yugoslavia were things that should have been left to the people and governments in that region.

Unfortunately, I don't see things getting much if any better for the foreseeable future. All one can do is hope that things don't get any worse.

I have noticed how some of your positions have changed over the years, which I found puzzling up till now. War has a way of doing that to people.

So, where do you see the situation between Russia and Ukraine heading?

I'm still kind of surprised that Putin hasn't tried to seize a land bridge to the Crimean peninsula through southeastern Ukraine. Now that Biden is president I've often wondered if Putin sees an opportunity to do so now. Surely, he knows Biden is weak and feckless.
