I don't think you know much history. Either that, or you have swallowed what is usually a conservative meme, America as the unique nation, protected by God, different from all the others.
Also ... those disdainful references to Yemen and Somalia ... tsk tsk.

And as for women being constitutionally too weak and delicate to defend their homes ... good Lord! You're more rightwing than we are!!

Yes. Wouldn't want to be an ISIS rapist and fall into the hands of those ladies, for sure.

But then that old reactionary Rudyard Kipling said it all over a hundred years ago:

    The Female of the Species

WHEN the Himalayan peasant meets the he-bear in his pride,
He shouts to scare the monster, who will often turn aside.
But the she-bear thus accosted rends the peasant tooth and nail.
For the female of the species is more deadly than the male.

When Nag the basking cobra hears the careless foot of man,
He will sometimes wriggle sideways and avoid it if he can.
But his mate makes no such motion where she camps beside the trail.
For the female of the species is more deadly than the male.

When the early Jesuit fathers preached to Hurons and Choctaws,
They prayed to be delivered from the vengeance of the squaws.
'Twas the women, not the warriors, turned those stark enthusiasts pale.
For the female of the species is more deadly than the male.

Man's timid heart is bursting with the things he must not say,
    For the Woman that God gave him isn't his to give away;
But when hunter meets with husbands, each confirms the other's tale—
The female of the species is more deadly than the male.

Man, a bear in most relations—worm and savage otherwise,—
Man propounds negotiations, Man accepts the compromise.
Very rarely will he squarely push the logic of a fact
To its ultimate conclusion in unmitigated act.

Fear, or foolishness, impels him, ere he lay the wicked low,
To concede some form of trial even to his fiercest foe.
Mirth obscene diverts his anger—Doubt and Pity oft perplex
Him in dealing with an issue—to the scandal of The Sex!

But the Woman that God gave him, every fibre of her frame
    Proves her launched for one sole issue, armed and engined for the same;
And to serve that single issue, lest the generations fail,
The female of the species must be deadlier than the male.

She who faces Death by torture for each life beneath her breast
May not deal in doubt or pity—must not swerve for fact or jest.
These be purely male diversions—not in these her honour dwells—
She the Other Law we live by, is that Law and nothing else.

She can bring no more to living than the powers that make her great
As the Mother of the Infant and the Mistress of the Mate.
And when Babe and Man are lacking and she strides unclaimed to claim
Her right as femme (and baron), her equipment is the same.

    She is wedded to convictions—in default of grosser ties;
Her contentions are her children, Heaven help him who denies!—
He will meet no suave discussion, but the instant, white-hot, wild,
Wakened female of the species warring as for spouse and child.

Unprovoked and awful charges—even so the she-bear fights,
Speech that drips, corrodes, and poisons—even so the cobra bites,
Scientific vivisection of one nerve till it is raw
And the victim writhes in anguish—like the Jesuit with the squaw!

So it comes that Man, the coward, when he gathers to confer
With his fellow-braves in council, dare not leave a place for her
Where, at war with Life and Conscience, he uplifts his erring hands
To some God of Abstract Justice—which no woman understands.

And Man knows it! Knows, moreover, that the Woman that God gave him
Must command but may not govern—shall enthral but not enslave him.
And She knows, because She warns him, and Her instincts never fail,
That the Female of Her Species is more deadly than the Male.

LOL! The states elect our presidents. Are you an American citizen?
It was an electoral landslide even though Trump did not bother to run a single political add. It will be far worse for the DP this time.
    Brace yourself. ;-)

People should choose, but when perps know that concealed handguns are all around them they will be very unlikely pull theirs.

That Rudyard sure knew a thing or two about women.
Must have been a married man.

Thank you very much for that. The great man's "If" was also voted Britain's favorite poem.

Why would you want to call for anyone to pull a gun in public unless there was an active shooter that needed attention?

Maybe he didn't know or care about the law???

In California, the following are illegal: (1) Any knife with a blade of 2″ or longer, that can be opened with a button or the flick of your wrist; (2) concealed possession of any “dirk” or “dagger,” i.e., any stabbing device with a fixed blade, regardless of blade length; (3) possession or sale of any disguised blades, i.e., cane swords, writing pen knives, lipstick knives, etc., or any knife that is undetectable to metal detectors; (4) possession of a knife with a blade longer than 2 1/2″ on any school grounds; (5) possession of a fixed-blade knife with a blade longer than 2 1/2″ on any college or university grounds; and (6) flashing or waiving any knife or weapon in a threatening manner. Also, certain municipalities have their own laws that may affect the legality of carrying a knife. In Los Angeles, for example, it’s illegal to openly carry any knife with a blade longer than 3″.

Or, if they see folks with open carry, likely they won't as well. But hey, the paranoia sounds like fun.

We are very tolerant here, and you do not seem to be inclined to launch personal attacks against members of this forum. Good idea to read the rules though. Especially those related to starting threads.
Hang in there and keep sharing your thoughts. :)

I think it is better if criminals do not know who to target first.
Uniformed police have to wear that bullseye on their backs - ordinary citizens do not have to do that unless they want to carry a really big gun that will ruin the cut of their Saville Row or Balmain suits.

Read the source again. Democratic governments are only responsible for 1% government mass murder. That is still a lot of victims.

"… from 1900 to 1987 governments MURDERED almost *170* MILLION people ... far exceeds the 34.4 million battle deaths ... from all...wars fought during the same period.... democratic governments were responsible for only about one percent of the twentieth century's death toll from democide...." The Atlantic Monthly, "The World In Numbers," "Murder By The State," Vol. 292 NO. #4, 11/20. (emphasis mine)
The Atlantic's source: "Rummels books on the subject - particularly "Death By Government" (1994) and "Statistics of Democide" (1997).

And the USG has just been caught red handed rigging elections. What does that do for the old democracy thing?

Most Americans can afford to buy guns.
I am sure many charities will make sure the few who can't afford a handgun can protect themselves and their community.

The NYT has already called the 2020 election for Trump. Did you miss that? ;-)

"Democrats also failed to capitalize on, and may have been damaged by, winning back control of the House of Representatives, but not the Senate, in the 2018 midterms. Mr. Trump proved effective, if characteristically vitriolic, in making a foil of the House speaker, Nancy Pelosi. Efforts to impeach the president mainly served to energize his base. Polling surveys suggested that wavering voters saw a Democratic Party more invested in humiliating the president than in helping them."
THE NEW YORK TIMES, How Trump Won Re-election in 2020, A sneak peek at the Times’s news analysis from Nov. 4, 2020., By Bret Stephens, July 26, 2018.

    So?

That doesn't give you and your ilk the right to strip the people's rights away.

If you don't like it, then move to France.

Why do you left-wingers love totalitarian governments that have guns?

Why do you want to make peasants out of the people?

Jesus, you 2nd amendment fetishists crack me up. Rights have boundaries, that is, where they begin, and more importantly, where they end. The 2nd amendment isn't immune to this legal fact. You act like it is an absolute right, when there really is no such thing. In fact, every single right enumerated in the Constitution can be, and often is, stripped away within the boundary of the law.

Firearms ownership does not threaten the lives of anyone in any fashion. The matter is as simple as that.
