It has been bad leadership by clinton bush and obama that oversaw the economic decline of the US

Trump is trying to start a trade war. It fits well with Putin's plans. And you idiot RWers gobble it up.

You literally sit and watch Trump sell our country to Putin.

No, of course not. Trade deficit is a sign of one side bent over grabbing the ankles, while the other side is laughing all the way to the bank.

Sure, there are countries that have one or the other, but not both.

Our landmass, population size, and form of government has collectively created something unrivaled.

    From your own source:

Uh... it sounds like China has been reducing its trade barriers to enter into the world economy for quite some time. Is that what started the war, them doing what the world wanted in terms of limiting tariffs? You guys are so smurt.

Almost every single paragraph actually deals with China either doing things out of good faith, or losing WTO rulings and changing their ways. Learn how to source things that don't leave you with egg on your face.

I have before, and it's a mixed bag of China engaging in some shady trade practices, while acting in good faith in other practices. That's the way the world works, you naive little honey. You don't think the United States does the exact same crap? The only reason our agricultural industry has any legs what-so-ever is due to billions of dollars being flooded into it by the federal government.

Trump rode the coat tails of Obama's efforts to recover from the recession and then he decided to start a trade war.

Trump definitely unleashed the bull with his moves prior to the talk of tariffs. Now it seems he's got both the bull and the bear excited, and they're both quite confused right now.

Assuming for the moment you didnt read past my suspicions about your national origins I’ll pitch it at you again:

China does not have to buy our stuff

    Its their choice

And we do not have to continue the $350 bil annual trade deficit with them either

We can stop funding the chinese military buildup by keeping that money in America where it belongs

China has been stealing our government and corporate technology for generations. And any company that does business in China must first divulge their technology to gain access to Chinese markets. Additionally, China has been stealing intellectual property for decades. They don't give a damn about copyrights or patents. These things are common knowledge.

I don't have info on their tariffs. I'll try to get that.

A single rally, wasn't it? That #NotMyPresident nonsense.

What they did after the election is immaterial to the argument that Putin's troll army did everything they could to help Trump and harm Hillary. Mainly the latter, admittedly, but obviously it all helped Trump in the end.

    Hilarious.

The report starts off talking about how bad China was before the WTO, then how they suddenly became the apple of your eye after they joined.

The only thing China does, when it is caught, is try to at least give the appearance it's cooperating so it can comply with WTO and remain in it.

Meanwhile, they're weaponizing the ocean, appointing leaders for life, threatening Taiwan again, stealing technology, still isn't complying with customs valuation, but yeah, they're just cherubic.

Their desire was to sow discord in the US political system. Something Democrats have gladly provided Putin.

    Thanks for the link.

    A couple of things.

    1) China is a communist country. Naturally, they will be extremely controlling of what enters their territory. Now I do not agree with communism...but it IS their country and to expect a communist country to have full free trade practices is rather naive of people (not saying you are one of them).
    2) It appears that China is moving in the right direction - slowly. People should remember what an INCREDIBLY backwards country China was just 40 years ago. Tiananmen Square was less then 30 years ago.
    3) These Trump tariffs are living in a dream world, IMO.

Americans are buying Chinese imports because the Chinese have a decided price advantage. Americans would not buy Chinese goods otherwise. There is no evidence whatsoever - that I am aware of - that America can produce those Chinese imported goods as cheaply as the Chinese can at present. So, if the point of the tariffs is to create American jobs by putting tariffs on Chinese imports, thus making them as expensive as American-made alternatives - all that will do is force the American consumer to spend more money for the same goods. How does that help the average American? Especially those 10's of millions of Americans on low/fixed incomes who depend on those cheaper imports to help make ends meet?
Plus, as soon as Trump is out of office, the Dems will probably kill the tariffs. The American manufacturers know this, so they are not going to invest huge amounts of money in brand new production facilities to take advantage of the Trump tariffs for fear that the money will be wasted - when the Dems undoubtedly kill the tariffs. And looking at the polls - that will be in 2021.
So the only new American jobs created will probably be temporary.
Plus, it's not like other countries with cheap manufacturing will not gladly fill the void left by Chinese import reductions.

And to do it in this confrontational way will just force China to retaliate and make American exports that much more difficult to gain Chinese market access.

Finally, China holds a TON of American money/bonds. If they dump them, that could send interest rates shooting upwards.

    4) The way to fix the China problem is to continue to fight it through proper channels. This is the way that has been going on and it is working (albeit slowly).
Besides, America has an official U-3 rate of only 4.1%...the lowest rate in almost 20 years. So what is this giant concern about American jobs?

    5) Wall Street is full of smart people. If they say tariffs are bad for America - then they probably are.
You NEVER ignore Wall Street. Ignore politicians? Fine. But NEVER Wall Street.

These tariffs will bring far more hardship to America than they will bring happiness.

    Guaranteed.

But I assume you disagree...so, we will see.
