Are you talking about the 1st lady who said "for the 1st time in my adult life I'm proud of my country!"? And her pride for her country came only b/c her husband was a presidential nominee?

I'd prefer a 1st lady a lot less shallow than her..... but that's just my opinion.......

Lol...It has to do with context.
We know where you're coming from, and we know where Mrs. Obama is coming from.

You're welcome. And if you were smart, you'd stop and think about her stinking attitude....... and please, spare me the race card.

I think you should tell me. Its your side always saying that whites shouldn't be proud of their race but you're okay when blacks are proud, but not whites. Why?

Being proud of your heritage is a good thing, just not to white liberals.

    Did you say Shi tler?

He's better than your precious leader Obongo. He doesn't like double standards. So I will say it again, Heil Hitler!

If YOU were smart you'd not try to tell me how to think. And her attitude is magnificent considering all the crap she has been thru. First, rightwingers called her a gorilla. Then they called her an angry, country hating b****. Then they called her a tranny. The woman has amazing restraint if you ask me. Thank you for your response.

My "ignorance"? Then, please, educate me! Send me links to all the information about the great Black African civilizations that Ms. Obama and yourself are intent on celebrating. Please share with me all the landmark advancements -- with credible evidence -- of Black African science, Black African literature, Black African philosophy, Black African architecture, Black African technology, inventions, music, art, and all the rest of it. Do you think you can solve "racial problems" by trying to make something wonderful and glorious out of a primitive civilization that gave the world little but a miserable subsistence existence, slavery, tribalism, savage warfare, and living conditions that were absolutely bestial -- for thousands of years!

Even if we use the Black Africa of today as a benchmark, it would seem that Black Africa has fallen very far down from what you and Ms. Obama seem to be praising as some kind of great civilization. Either that or there really wasn't much in Black Africa, from ancient history to this very morning, that is much different from the Stone Age -- except for what it has acquired from other civilizations and cultures.... And if I'm wrong in this assessment, please tell me how I'm wrong, with specifics. But spare me any more of your broad-brush subjectivity... it only shows you as one who displays "willful ignorance"....

Admittedly, I didn't major in Anthropology, so I'm not an expert. But where the hell did you discover that Black Africa was some kind of paragon of civilization?!

If Africa is so devoid of anything worthwhile, why have people been raping and pillaging the continent for years? Why did they colonize the countries and steal all the natural resources? Well, until recent years. They've all been either kicked out or forced to return control of the country to native Africans. Please answer this question. If you can.

There is a difference between being proud of who you are and claiming that other groups are inferior based on race. The latter is what racists do.
Perpetuating the belief in racial superiority is what receives justifiable criticism.

Pollysy, you really need to go study more. I realize the US schools didn't teach anything about ancient Africa. But, you have to research things on your own sometimes. For instance: I just learned recently that Whites were the first slaves in America. I always thought it was Blacks. Know why? Because the schools never taught this! Get out of your comfort zone. READ! STUDY! Don't ever stop learning!

You responded to NOTHING in my post... so why should I respond to the nothingness of yours...?

Oh, hell, maybe just one. White Europeans and others came to Africa for the natural resources, most of which had completely escaped the notice of the indigenous Black Africans, even though they had been living their familiar, old Stone Age existence there for thousands of years. Did you think that perhaps people flocked to Africa to see the magnificent cities, study in the many superior universities, or learn from superior cultures in an advanced civilization...?!

We should all thank Black Africa for our origins and beginnings. We should all be thankful that in the 21st Century, other cultures and civilizations have taken mankind far above those origins and beginnings. Or do you like your monkey meat raw, with the maggots still crawling in it...?

Poor fellow. THAT'S all you've got? It almost ought to be against the law for people like you to have to defend yourselves in a world where there are people like me. You came up with NOTHING. Is that how you handle challenges in the rest of your aimless, pointless life? Do better, or you will always be someone else's toilet paper, and I would wish better than that for you and everyone else....

Let's explore that, as I've always been of the opinion that "double standards" meant unequal treatment on equal footing.

Black pride, in an of itself, was a reaction to societal moods/conditions that outwardly expressed an opinion of "lesser" toward people of color (both socially and legislatively). It was a direct response to numerous accounts of injustice in order to say that "you can no longer shame us for our skin color... we are stronger for it and we are proud of it". Perhaps James Brown's "Say it loud" is an appropriate example (or even pillar) for that movement.

It's true, a white man may raise some eyebrows for sudden proclamations of white pride. Why? Perhaps it's due to a) his own ancestors giving the phrase such a bad wrap... as it usually accompanied burning crosses, white hoods, discrimination and black people swinging from trees... or b) the underlying conditions that would motivate pride may not be as visible as others (community advancement in the face of adversity or something of that nature).

I think it's easy to claim double standard if you're not interested in exploring context (speaking generally, of course).

Proud in having England blood or France blood or whatever European blood is one thing but when you begin wearing a white rob or even making racist remarks and looking down on others for not sharing your family background that is a step too far.

Of course the distinction is that black pride emerged from a long history of oppression by white people. And white pride has a long history of association with fascism and the KKK. In fact, plenty of black men ended up swinging from a tree in the name of white pride. And plenty of jews were gassed because of white pride. So it may be unfair, but each cause carries connotations that drive the seeming double standard. It isn't just a matter of logic, it is a matter of history.

But I really don't think anyone wearing a proud to be white shirt would get arrested by the PC police.

What kind of liberals have you been hanging out with lately? I have plenty of friends who are of Irish, German, Italian and other European heritage and i've never heard of any liberal friends criticize them when they talk about their heritage. I think you're being over sensitive.
