Yes I voted ten dollars because I think thats reasonable and that would be about enough to support ones self at todays prices without having to kill themselves working 2 jobs.

Why not $15 well that would be too much for many positions and at $7.25 it would more than double having a substantial effect but $10 an hour is not unreasonable and the effects will be modest and again thats about what a full time worker needs to make to adequatly afford food, housing, and transportation at todays prices.

Those of you AGAINST have NO CLUE and obviously have not had to struggle in recent times and $7.25 an hour in 2013 is a national embarrasment and demeans us all.

I am getting really tired of reading that these jobs are just a starting place and people should work up. Well these are the only jobs for some people and they need a living wage. Looked for a job lately? Not much out there but minimum wage jobs.

Well you could always go to college "but pay for your own" at 50 or just pack up and move to North Dakota and work in oil fields thats the Right Wing Nut Job solution for economic prosperity

The lady? Who's this lady? Did she actually apply herself and attempt to grow with the company? If not, why not? Did she ask the manager for a raise? Did she ask for more responsibility? If nothing was available at that McDs, why didn't she look elsewhere?

I believe we should scrap our current regime and merely, solve simple poverty through our unemployment compensation infrastructure.

So you understand that there's great risk with starting/owning a business and understand the costs associated with them, while also understanding the existing oppressive government taxation/regulation policies in effect today, yet you blame the employers for our economic problems?

Only when they claim to be for capitalism from public venues but rely on socialism to bail them out.

Most of us "against" the raise have already experienced earning minimum wage. When I started working, minimum wage was $5.15/hr. I was a high school student, living with my parents. I got a couple of other jobs that paid $6/hr throughout high school. When I got to college, I was able to make more, due to my experience. I was up at around $8-9/hr. Out of college (2003), I could make $25k/yr (which is about $12/hr) as an assistant manager at a retail chain. Every year after that, I would fight for raises, move to other companies for better jobs/better pay, and change positions, etc. If you're unwilling to work/fight for it, you don't deserve it. $10/15 for minimum wage? Give me a break... I got $12 after a college education and 8yrs of experience in working for different companies in different positions. Earn it you leach.

Yes, I have looked for a job lately... and there's a plethora available that aren't minimum wage jobs.

No doubt we should rely on the interpretations of amateur constitutional scholars on the internet. Who needs a Supreme Court?

Yeah... the Right Wing Nut Job solution... work for what you have and go where the jobs are. Beats the Moronic Socialist Nut Job solution of give me more for nothing, because I demand it.

The truth has no agenda. Whether the argument comes from a person on the internet or person at your educational facility, home, school, etc., what difference does it make, if the argument is factually correct and true?

Exactly. Working for next to nothing, and doing it as much as possible, is always the way to go in corporate America. The sixth generation of the inheritors who never actually worked a day in their lives now, that's REAL 'work', and must be admired.

I was not blaming anyone just stating the facts as I see them.

And what business would you have me start? And are you willing to invest?

I can't just go "poof" and start a sucsessful business. But I am working from very small up...with little risk of capital.

Wow you went to college to work retail smart move speaking of leaches maybe corporations should EARN their money instead of LEECHING record profits off the backs of the working poor.

If the only way a business can be profitable is to EXPLOIT its workforce then they don't deserve to be in business anyways we are better off without them.

Or worse yet, go borrow a small fortune and end up bankrupt because you didn't know exactly what you were doing or all the cost involved.

I saw it on the news. She asked for a raise and they cut her hours. Now if I have to spell out why some people will always work in minimum wage jobs there are many reasons. There are some people if they went to school all their lives they would still work a minimum wage job.. These people deserve a honest days pay for a honest days work. 7.25 is not a honest hourly wage. It is dirt pay.
