Mom's turning the big 5-0 tomorrow!

I know the feeling well (gaining 10lbs in a few months around the age of 50 when I never had to worry avout it before!).

But my doctor then did a blood test and found out I had low thyroid. I was put on a low dose of thyroid medication and lost 5 lbs almost immediately! Now, anytime I gain weight for no reason, I have a bloodtest to check my thyroid levels, and it is ALWAYS low at that point. Then the doctor raises the medication for a month or two, and I get back to my "only slightly too much" weight.

Works for me. . . With yoga, and zoomba,and walking. . .

 

And how would I know that, exactly?

 

Oh yeah, my mom got on thyroid medication a few years ago. The issues with her thyroid might also be what's lead to her sudden weight gain.

 

Good advice for anyone who suddenly starts gaining weight for no apparent reason, get a thyroid test.

Also, feeling cold when it's really not cold is a symptom.

 

Yes! Now that you mention it, I was experiencing those deep, down to the bone, chills, even under a ton of blankets! It seem that the chill came from the INSIDE of my body rather than the outside.

Movie tickets are cheaper, you get into national parks for free, hotels give you a discount, national forest campsites are half price, and you can ski at Badger (in Yosemite) for free. Life after 65 is good. At 55, you're still in the gray zone, not quite yet a full fledged seasoned citizen.

 

Now that I'm in my early 60s, I wish more than ever that the Fountain of Youth will be found and soon!

Wait until YOU are 50 and see how funny that is. LOL Yeah, one usually gets 'gag' gifts at 50, when you are as old as I am, those kinds of gifts are either useful or downright insulting.....or BOTH! Ha Ha LOL

 

You know you're past 55 when: They ASK if you want the senior discount...or...Everyone starts calling you 'Sir'...or...That cute young woman behind the counter at your favorite Bistro is nice to you because you remind her of her grandfather...and you thought she had the hots for you. LOL

She's a happy lady though because she just recently moved back into a house after she had to give up her home to foreclosure two years ago. So I'm really happy for her and sooo jealous! I want a pretty house like hers!

Haha, omg are you kidding? I get old people who come into my work and ALWAYS ask me if we have senior discounts. I am like...no, sir. Then again we also get churches and non-profits asking if we give discounts for them too and we're like, no because we're FOR profit. rofl!

 

Lost her home?.....sorry to hear that but....Been there done that AND bought new home too! Good for her.

I have noticed that establishments that do offer discounts like that are typically quite busy....Besides, a small discount can be written off for promotional purposes. Unless, of course, you're selling video games and skate-boards.....LOL

 

My girlfriend turned 59, and she's hot as hell.

 

Meh, if they want to use them to jerk off too that hardly bothers me if that's what you mean. lol
