This thread will be an ongoing project. There's so much climate alarmist tub-thumping these days that reason and perspective can get lost. This is a modest attempt to highlight both.

    Climate Fact-Check September 2023 Edition
    OCTOBER 11, 2023

Guest Post by: The Competitive Enterprise Institute, The Heartland Institute, the Energy & Environmental Legal Institute, the Committee for a Constructive Tomorrow, and the International Climate Science Coalition, and Truth in Energy and Climate.
Editor’s note: This summary serves as a fact check on the biggest false claims made in the media in September, 2023.

Was September 2023 the warmest month on record? Based on NASA satellite data, September 2023 had the highest temperature anomaly (i.e., difference from average) on record. It was 0.9C warmer than the 1991-2020 average.

In contrast, the Temperature.global compilation of actual temperature measurements from surface stations has September only slightly warmer than the average monthly temperature of the past 8 years and 9 months, and far from the warmest month since January 2015.

Which temperature data is more accurate? NASA admits the surface stations are. There has still been no global warming since January 2015.

Reminder: Regardless of data set used to calculate it, “average global temperature” is not an actual physical metric. It is a flawed notion contrived by and for global warming alarmism. Its “calculation” is fraught with problems. We only discuss it because the alarmists do.

    Let’s get to September’s fact checks. . . . .

The Competitive Enterprise Institute (CEI) is a advocacy group based in Washington DC with long ties to tobacco disinformation campaigns and more recently to climate change denial.

    Smoking as a civic duty

Only a tobacco-funded think tank would ever go so far as to describe smoking as a civic duty. The tobacco industry has been a regular funder of the Competitive Enterprise Institute, (CEI) which in turn has gone to bat repeatedly and eagerly for tobacco in its battles...

Well, talk about in bed with the deplorables. I suppose when you're raking in the $$$ you can put up your feet in the salon with the boys, after you lie, deceive & manipulate to the public with straight face!

Truth, like gold, is where you find it. And accurate data are available even to people you don't like.

So for at least the last 100 years we've been treated to doomsday predictions that life on earth as we know it will be destroyed because of our evil ways.
    Remember?
First it was "New York will be buried under a hundred feet of ice by the 1990's.
And then it was melting ice caps.
    And earth as a dessert.
    And famine.
    And disease.
And an atmosphere we couldn't breathe.
And so on and so forth.

    And they all have common traits;
    Predictions of Armageddon.
At some point, usually 20 or more years in the future.
Based on "facts" that are hard to confirm.
But we can avoid that if only we a) spend lots of money b) radically alter our lifestyle c) Give control to someone else.

Well, not one has been proven accurate.
    Not even close.

So point me to one prediction of doomsday the climate "experts" have made that has proven accurate, and we can talk.
If you need some help picking a prediction out, check here.
    Or pick your own.

Wrong Again: 50 Years of Failed Eco-pocalyptic Predictions - Competitive Enterprise Institute (cei.org)

~ Climate change catastrophe has happened already here in Los Angeles .. !! First it's hot — then the nights turn chilly. Next thing you know we will have a rain " storm".
With Covid-19, Co2 contamination, climate change and crazy drivers I am scared to go outside ..."'

So you agree that tobacco is dangerous? We need to let the Competitive Enterprise Institute know this asap.

I read that when you first posted it. Other than the unsupported claim that CEI has "long ties to tobacco disinformation campaigns" there's no mention of tobacco.

He has no counterpoints to sell which is why he is pushing irrelevant side arguments around to get you to chase his babble and forget post one you made that he ignores because he can't address it.

Now a couple of days ago you posted about a small, insignificant study that purportedly did not declare a competing interest but will happily quote from sites funded by vested interests

Filed under "So what?" The information is known. There's no reason to distrust that funding any more than scientists whose careers and reputations are invested in climate alarmism.
To what "small, insignificant study" do you refer?

On what? Talk about bloody vague accusations - is that an example of what you consider “scientific thinking”?
