you must compare apples to apples.

You can't compare the Ford Coyote (new 5.0) to an older 390.

But, Ferrari has a 4.5L which smokes the Coyote but costs a ton more

if you punched the 4.5L to 5.0 using the same technology then it would produce even more power.

there is no replacement for displacement

There is no finer bike when shifting than a Rune.I've owned 6 motorcycles the last 15 years .
The worst being a Kawasaki Nomad.
I prefer Hydraulic clutches. The Rune has the most advanced gearbox and
clutch ever made.It shifts snappy, smooth and precise with hardly any effort.Ever
listen to most any Harley shift. They CLUNK into gear. What a joke of a bike.
I get such a pleasure listening to Harley perform.
I was behind a modified Honda Fury today. The guy was acting all motorcycle cool.
He replaced the nice Instrumentation { Rev and idiot lights module } and had 2
round replacement units.Had like Samson exhaust. It was a nice bike.Sounded good when
he decelerated.I heard a bit of backfire when he slowed down, shifting gears.A sort
of low pop.He seemed quite pleased with himself.he passed me on the by-pass
as I was going around 60 m.p.h. I let him have his fun. Then when he got way ahead
of me I gassed it.Caught up to him in seconds flat.He was with riding in tandem with a guy
on an older Vulcan model. He was wearing some mock Biker gear as if in some Biker
club. This Fury guy was acrting all cool when he passed me.Had his one led leg
hanging out on some kind of extended highway pegs.
    Bikers are such trips.

Again yer talking silly. How big are the Indy 500 car engines.Their small whiners.
They wind out and rev like crazy.Average like 200 m.p.h. for hours on end.
Big engines are a thing of the past except for Drag Racing.
Efficiency is the name of the game.

Smaller engines have to spin? Of course. So what? It's not just bikes...small car engines also have to spin. (Offhand, I recall many Hondas running 3000+RPM on the highway.) It's not going to hurt anything.

Actually, you're full of it. The oil in my scooter is fine...it needs frequent changes (no filter), but I had it analysed and it came up fine. I run regular 15W-40 diesel oil. (Mine only holds 28 ounces of oil...a scooter does not have a wet clutch.) Note: mine is liquid-cooled and nowhere near as hard on oil as an air-cooled engine. I'm not sure, but I THINK the V-Star gets Mobil 1 15W-50 motorcycle oil...about $8-9/bottle, but I recall it only needs a quart and a half!

Also note: my wife's Buick and my truck are both harder on oil than a high-RPM bike!

anyone who doubts what I posted about thermal breakdown and oil needs to educate themselves.

About that awesome 600HP V6, why not share the dyno sheet with all of us and also, tell us how a normally aspirated 6'er is doing that. Oh wait, before you go to Google, only forced induction or spray would let it come close. There are 6 bangers running 6's on the 1/4 but those are not street engines and the cars weigh 3,000 pounds. They are dual turbo engines running a ton of boost. And a 600HP engine in a small block or 6'er is not an easy feat to accomplish and the engine needs to be built for it. Toyota had the Supra and the bottom end of it could handle high boost for short durations but you had to dial it back for the street.

You'll hear lots of "stories" about a stock Busa which can break into the 9's but check the tire, the conditions and the rider.

The avg experienced rider with many runs on the track is going to hit 10's.

10's on 4 wheels requires a lot of attention and is fast, I can't imagine doing it on a bike. I'm just not of the mindset to want to try

lots of good talk here but back to bikes. To the poster and his stripped down Gold Wing (Rune), it's just weigh too heavy of a bike for me but Baskin and Robbins has 31 flavors for a reason

No metric uses 50 weight oil.NONE.Period.Harley's run 10-50 because they are
air-cooled.I ran 10-50w Amsoil in both my Honda XTX 1800 and Rune.So they run
smoother in the summer months.Honda's do run hot for some reason.I sold the VTX and
got an M109.I switched to Mobil 1 10-40.
It's not a good idea to use other than recommended viscosity. But I feel synthetic oil is
worth it.I may be wrong.Slick 50 was proven to be a hoax.

Funny you mention that.I just had an argument with my Biker buddy { owns 2 Harleys
and is an Amsoil dealer.Well a small dealer. He buys it by the case and sells about half the
case. That is where I got my Amsoil. But I stopped using it 5 years ago and switched to
Mobel 1 10-40w. Well the argument was over should I change the oil in my Bike
every year no matter the number of miles.I said NO.If I'm using synthetic and putting
just half the miles I normally do { from 6,000 down to around 3,ooo } then I can extend oil
changes w/o any problem.he said no.That Oil evaporates and therefore breaks down.
Of course he's hung up on Oil and oil filters and Amsoil and their silly ball bearing test
    results.I once asked him if Oil,unopened has a shelf life.he couldn't answer.So why
wouldn't oil evaporate in the unopened container especially if placed in a garage and exposed to
    hot summers and cold winters.
I just changed out my oil this past week.I skipped a year. That Moble 1 never looked as
clean. It was the undirtest Oil I ever drained.I went this year with Honda Pro oil.
    A synthetic/petroleum blend.Still it was $8.99 a quart.About a dollar less than
    Amsoil and Moble One.
    Honda has good oil.

Hey, howabout READING and UNDERSTANDING what I posted, not what you want to think I posted. Per actual lab analysis, the oil in my scooter was perfectly fine! It needs changing (due to contamination) LONG before it will ever break down thermally!

Buick V6, single turbo, put 763HP down to the rollers on a chassis dyno. Car runs 10's, race weight of ~3900lbs. Car is a commuter for much of the year & has made four Hot Rod Power Tours (none less than 3000 miles) without a hiccup.

The V-star 250 is also air cooled. I'm not sure on the 15W-50, but i am sure he uses Mobil 1 motorcycle oil.

The Rune is surly no stripped down Gold Wing.About the only thing the same is the
engine block and the diamond cut aluminum frame. It's rigid mounted btw.
There is no front end like a rune.It is totally unique.it's like a springer/girder
mix.it's called a Trailing link suspension. The bike is all metal {fenders}.Well ALMOST
all metal. The fancy big headlamp is Plastic.
    Using Honda's pro-link rear suspension { like the one used in Honda's RC11 GP racer;
It's adjustable but the bike does have a weight limit of 270 lbs.
Therefore it is not advisable to
have a passenger even is one gets the aftermarket seat with passenger pad.
Obviously the instrumentation is one off { Digital readout for speed and miles } and
chromed clutch and master cylinders and everything on the handlebars is state-of the
art chromed with rubber stripped ,stainless steel handgrips and stainless steel mesh
brake line..Even a nice stainless steel easy to use and precision
screw-in oil dipstick." Frenched-in " flush mounted LED taillights.
The engine is tuned different than a Goldwing with 4 less fuel-injection throttle
bodies. The final drive is geared lower than the Gold Wing.
The result is around 100 h.p. with 110 ft.lbs. torque at 2500 rpm.
There a reason George Clooney purchased an entire garage full of Runes at
above retail for him and his buddies.Plus don't hold yer breath waiting to see one out
on the road. They were limited production. For just 2 years.I think 1,000 were manufactured.

    I don't get yer obsession over a 250 cc motorbike.I mean,I might understand if
an original Kawasaki 350 cc 2 stroke 3 cyclinder.Which was by far one of the
most awesome motorcycles ever made. That bike easily took on models almost
    twice it's size.

synthetic does work and even makes a difference. I'm too cheap to use synthetic motor oil in all of my vehicles but, for those with auto trannies, when I flush, I replace with synthetic. I've gotten good life from the trannies using synthetic.

I have found a quite interesting custom motorcycle maker. They belive that small
is better.I'll agree that lighter bikes are what the Pro riders swear by.It also
    served Evil Knievel well.
They use a Chinese custom 250 cc engine specially machined by Lifan,
one of the worlds largest engine manufacturers. The company was originated
by Honda. This isn't some Royal Enfield engine that when slightly abused will
    literally blow up.
    The company markets 3 models.
The Heist or a lightweight Bobber.
The Misfit. And the Ace { standard looking 70's style motorcycle with upgraded
    features.}
The Company is .... Cleveland Cycle Werks
It deserves a look. The Bikes are priced at around $ 3200.

For air-cooled motorcycles such as my Sportster it's virtually a must. Synthetic oil can handle much higher temperatures and this is even more important with a V-twin as the rear cylinder when stopped tends to overheat because the air is restricted except on each side. Of course with my Sportster I also use synthetic because it provides commonality between the gear oil which is the same synthetic that I use for the engine.

I would never try to save a few cents on oil because oil is always cheaper than a motor.

It depends on the person. There are also Oil freaks out there. My Biker buddy is one.
He won't even consider an oil like Mobil One.Just Amsoil.Amsoil,Amsoil and more
Amsoil.he even orders their oil filters and saves the filters to cut them in half and
see how they held up.He one of those one type guys.Just one vehicle will do.
Jeep. He's got like 4 Jeeps at all times. One is apart in the garage.
I never tried Royal Purple. My car { Evolution has Mobil One embossed right on the
the oil fill cap.} It comes stock filled with Mobil One.Because obviously the Evo engines
    are broken-in at the shop.
You never want to run a synthetic in a brand new engine. The parts have to shear and
mesh together.Plus you don't want to baby an engine when new.Like most dealers tell ya.
Don't hot rod the engine either. If you baby a new engine the first 1,000 miles it will
never achieve it's true performance.Because you have to push the engine hard enough to
let the valves seat properly. If you baby the engine the valves will never get pushed hard
enough to properly seat-in and reach maximum efficiency.

Actually, they make more like 9500, maybe 10,000HP.

Of course, Pro Stockers with THE EXACT SAME DISPLACEMENT make about one-quarter that much power...while a <200ci Supra can make as much power as a Pro Stocker!

Pablum. Many engines have synthetic oil as the FACTORY FILL. Offhand, Corvettes, Cadillacs, Chrysler SRT's, and Porsches ALL use Mobil 1 synthetic from the factory. I recall new Ford & GM diesels have a factory fill of 5W-40 synthetic, as do BMW, Mercedes, and VW diesels. Any Ford using 5W-20 (all gas trucks and most cars) oil has part-synthetic as the factory fill. (Motorcraft 5W-20 is synthetic blend.) Modern engines are fully broken in by the time they are secured to the transporters!

For that matter, don't Harley, BMW, and Ducati motorcycles have synthetic for a factory fill?

I post facts. You post flames, ad hominem insults, and meaningless, rambling word salad. I accept your concession. Calling me a liberal is hilariously stupid, as well.

I am absolutely dead serious: Are you baked?

I have posted (at least twice) what I ride here: Q-Link Commuter maxi scooter. Did about 70 miles on it today, in fact, and will do more tomorrow.

And I note you did not refute ONE SINGLE WORD of what I posted. Game, set, match. You lose.

Yer a Hack.I remember you attacking me relentlessly about a year ago with the
same " word salad " comment.
    You need to be moderated.
I don't reply to your nonsense.
BTW ... where on earth did you get the notion that Harley's use synthetic as
factory fill. That in itself is such a crock it can't even rise to urban myth.
Yer just making things up.Harley dealers go out of their way to explain break-in
and first service. It fact they demand it when someone buys a new Hog.I've heard
it enough times with biker buddies looking to buy Harleys.
Plus my riding buddy is on his 2nd new Harley in 8 years. The Amsoil nut.

More word salad, more ad hominem, more babbling...and still, not one single word to refute one single thing I posted. Pathetic.

Game, set, match. You lose. I accept your concession.

Yet again: many engines come with synthetic oil right from the factory. No amount of ad hominem, insults, and directionless babble will change that simple FACT.

it's all estimates now because no Dyno can handle the top fuelers and funnies. They mess with clutches because they can't get all that power to the ground.

    You can't compare pro-stock with pro-mod/comp/street.

Pro stockers are normally aspirated huge blocks ( go beyond big blocks) and the cars weigh less than the door slammers of pro mod/street/comp.

I like the pro mod/street/comp because the rules are based on weight and what you can do for power adders and it's based upon displacement and weight

For example, if you run a small block and want to run TC then the car could weigh 2700 (doing this from memory but suggest consulting the rule book) but if it's a big block, the the car must weigh 3400 pounds.

So, you get guys with small blocks or sixers running tons of boost and spinning those engines beyond 10k rpms

You'll also see big block supercharged or sprayed cars. It's the variety which makes it interesting

Anyway, back to bikes. A friend's son just picked up a used CB919 last night. What a neat bike as I just saw it a little while ago when I stopped by their house.

My Caddy's engine is bigger than a Pro Stocker...they are limited to 500ci. They aren't that big by today's standards. (Chevy has built a 502ci crate engine for going on 20 years now.)

They make cool little bikes. I'd actually considered one of their bikes as my starter bike.

    Here's the Chinese version.

I'm glad I didn't get either one of them though, simply because of the small displacement. I actually saw a kid riding the Chinese bobber down the street awhile back. It was funny. He burned through three gears in the span of two blocks. Sounded like he was riding a pissed off weed eater, looked like he was riding a moped :)

I guess it might be cool just to have one some day. It's like a conversation piece that you can ride.

As far as small displacement customs go, I think Jonny Pag is the best. Good looking bikes, plus they've bumped it up to 300 and 320cc.
