Ok--first off, in the following meanings faith is a valid and usable concept:
confidence or trust in a person or thing: faith in another's ability.

belief that is not based on proof: He had faith that the hypothesis would be substantiated by fact.

As far as faith being religion based it is and always has been nonsense. Faith in a non-existent god is NONSENSE. Spirituality in the religious sense is NONSENSE, since anything in a religious sense is nonsense.

Science is a tool men use to look at the real world, it is NOT a belief, a religion or any opposite to religion.
Religion is nonsense, superstition and myth based on the ignorance of mankind and nothing more.
Science is a tool for looking at the real world, nothing more..
they are NOT opposites of a coin, they are not opposing views, they are two totally different things with no relationship whatsoever. Only religion nuts complain about scientists and science, because they refuse to accept reality and look at ANYTHING that does NOT espouse their stupid views as EVIL and anti-god. They are nuts, plain and simple.

YES, I am an atheist and I have faith (belief that is not based on proof) that no god or gods exist, by any name or concept. I have that faith based on the FACT that in over 50,000 years of the existence of humanity not one valid fact has appeared to show that any supernatural being of ANY kind, god, angel, demon, ghost, etc, exists. I base my faith in no god on that fact and others. I base my faith that it is dangerous to cross run a red light during rush hour on the FACT that there are more cars on the roads at that time. I have NEVER seen any proof to support that faith, but I am quite sure it is accurate.

To have faith in an imaginary,non-existent god is foolish, stupid and superstitious and kinda dumb.

Anything but Judeaism or Christianity. It will probably be a mixture of all sorts of things to make it palitable to a wide audience. Ecumenialism a precusure or model. The mottp could be "I'll believe anything as long as its not the truth".

Would we be worse off, if guys could simply go to a temple dedicated to a goddess of love and pray for true love and perform true love rituals, instead of having to lie to women for sex?

This is your opinion, I happen to believe differently and disagree.

As I pointed out to the other, you're just another wedge in the divide complaining about the extremists on the religious side of the divide. Both sides have the extremists who wedge the divide and strain the relationship.

Well as some of you say, I'm going to say to you, "Quit pushing your beliefs on me!" You don't have to believe in God, but if I choose to then who are you to question me? Because you are blind to God doesn't mean we all need to be.

    "Definition of NON-
    1
    : not : other than : reverse of : absence of <nontoxic> <nonlinear>
    2
    : of little or no consequence : unimportant : worthless <nonissues> <nonsystem>
    3
: lacking the usual especially positive characteristics of the thing specified <noncelebration> <nonart> "

Based on the definition above, your statement "Spirituality in the religious sense is nonsense." is an oxymoron.

"religious" gives applicable purpose to a type of 'sense' therefore, "religious sense" cannot be "nonsense", even by your secular definitions.

So you desire to exercise the maxim which reads "absence of evidence is not evidence of absence." That is the same philosophy which science uses when science is confronted with a challenge to prove things that its scientists assert to be a fact yet cannot show PROOF or even objective empirical evidence.

Feel free to disagree, I fought for your right to be wrong and am glad you exercise that right.

There is no wedge, no divide, no sides of a coin. There are simply those that accept reality and those that believe superstitious nonsense.

Stating facts is NOT 'pushing beliefs". I have no real care what you believe or do not believe. That does NOT prevent me from pointing out that some beliefs are superstitious, mythological, nonsense.
Because some people accept the superstitions of a god, in no way indicates that god is real. It only shows how some people foolishly accept mythological nonsense.

I admit that many people use faith in a religious concept to show the existence of their particular god. The fact that such a usage of the term FAITH is based on the simple fact that no god, or gods exist and that all religions are nonsense. Fact based faith is a decent concept, superstition based faith is NONSENSE.

I have no idea what you said, but you apparently do not read well. My faith is based on FACTS. Fact - in 50,000 years there has been no evidence to the reality or even the existence of any god, gods, demons, angels, etc. FACT - no god or gods have ever shown by any act, that they exist. Fact, all mention of god or gods is from the imagination of man. Fact - all mention of god or gods in mans books, myths and superstitions show nothing but humans and how they would act with imaginary super powers. Greedy, jealous, stupid, inept, hateful, spiteful lustful human beings. There is nothing godly about any of the gods man has created.

Based on the above facts, although they are not enough for PROOF, they are enough for me to have absolute faith that no god or gods exist. Therefore I am an atheist by faith in FACTS.

    how about three:

judaism, christianity and islam.......... all of them have a god that aint real!

it is a make believe entity that many believe they are separate from.

    ie.... godless
well let the teacher point it out:

"I had a teacher tell me once, "We're all ignorant-just about different subjects. Stupidity is the combination of arrogance and ignorance. Arrogance, being the opposite of humility, is the idea you have nothing to learn".

i borrowed that wisdom from somerwhere?!?!?

    ok,

let me point to something i read:

I had a teacher tell me once, "We're all ignorant-just about different subjects. Stupidity is the combination of arrogance and ignorance. Arrogance, being the opposite of humility, is the idea you have nothing to learn".

    cool teacher!

Looks to me like she is talking about or literally descibing the religious wingnuts that dont want to learn and left their humility with the preacher; most of them fools that dont want to learn, are stupid.

    a huge divide;

if a person has heart problems, they go to a doctor which is using science to fix 'm up.

If a person is mentally lost with comprehending right and wrong but cant find it in a science book, they pay a preacher to tell them how to think.

lessons to learn: both need their brethren to learn

both are based on lessons learn by men/women and conveyed in words, math for their next generations to observe.

differences: one continually evolves, the other is subjective to beliefs and will stop the progression with imposing the ignorance that 'we' are incapable.
i didnt tell a mason how to think, most are at work laying stone

thanks as i needed a good laugh

But seriously, i love the mason gang in many ways. Be certain, i will call upon them in the days to come.

But to suggest that believing in theological literature is better than learning lessons from your brothers as the evolution of knowledge has progressed well beyond the beliefs, then you are not a mason in my eye.

the pinnacle of knowledge comes from 'we the people' as brethren and the sciences are what will enable us all to know ourselves in equality, well beyond the beliefs in magical beings on a thrown with lightning bolts in their hands.

You are getting it directly from an eye that is watching it all; a life that loves you more than you know.

be fair brother and find that i am here for the good of the future, the children.

Just like I fought for your right to believe in anything you wish, I also fought for my right to point out fools and laugh at them, especially those that believe in superstitious nonsense. I do NOT care what you believe, but, I DO find your superstitious beliefs to be foolish, and kinda dumb--but that is your choice. My choice is to laugh at them and I never try to convert anyone. LOL, answering a question about my belief is NOT trying to force anything on you.

Why would we ever want to delegate any Religious authority to our elected representatives to government?

Our own First Amendment proscribes it.
