You have a point. If ANY Republican is elected president, the Democrats will attack him or her to drive them out of office. The Democrats are abusing the courts and the judicial system to abuse the electoral system. It is a major flaw in the legal system. That will continue until it is curbed.
she like some of the others are running for the VP gig. The more voters they attract the more attractive they are for the VP slot.
Lol! my banning huh? I agree with you on the political aspects. It's a loser for Republicans, but the position itself was held by virtually every Republican candidate since Reagan. The difference is that the position is politically untenable in the post Dodd era, while pre-Dodd there were zero political consequences for it. But the position itself hasn't changed in decades.
This is not a popular observation, but I think that Reagan soft pedaled the abortion issue when he was president. He never pushed hard to get anti abortion legislation passed. When the anti abortion forces held rallies across the street from the Whitehouse, Reagan always addressed them remotely. He never addressed them in person which allowed him to have a low profile.
Reagan was anti-abortion. It just didn't matter because there limited policies the GOP could do under Roe. In any case, the position on abortion remains the same and can hardly be an example of your claim that the the GOP has just recently gone hard right. I assume you were thinking of other positions besides abortion?
Abortion is pretty much it. I am strongly pro capitalist. I am strongly opposed to using the FBI and the courts for political purposes. I do think that DeSantis did himself some political damage when he went after Disney as hard as he did. I won't say that he was or is wrong, but when you are running for president, you have to track more to the middle and avoid nasty public fights.
Alexandra called I never tried to hide it I mean if you call your opponent racist the point of doing that is not to hide it
Okay, so DeSantis didn't really go to far "hard right." He just followed up on a position that has been pretty much standard for the party for decades.
I can tell you that he has frightened and alienated moderate Republicans, like my wife, with what he’s done.
Well yeah, because moderate Republicans could ignore the anti-abortion talk from the GOP while Roe v Wade was in place. Now it's not.
a rather well respected constitutional scholar is a big fan of Haley based on his analysis of the debates. https://reason.com/volokh/2023/10/07/the-republican-presidential-primary-debates-so-far/ He also is correct in his analysis of Trump and DeSantis being the biggest losers so far as to the debates and makes this valid comment Donald Trump is manifestly out of his mind at the age of 77, and he is no longer qualified to be President. Now former President Trump is calling for canceling the third Republican presidential primary debate. Gee, I wonder why?
I am of mind any of the GOP candidates is preferable to Biden, including Trump at his age. I have known people over the age of 75 that retain their mental acuity, so I am more inclined to judge based on individual performance. I can see Haley as vp to Trump, next in line if Trump doesn’t make term, it’s a far better combination to that we have now.
Haley Won the Debate -- Can She Win the Nomination? Andrew Sandstrom, RCP Former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley has proven she is a force to be reckoned with on the debate stage. Her poise and message... Read More
Wow. My post from early this year turned out to be pretty darn accurate. In fact, likely thanks to such early warnings, it turned out that people immediately saw through DeSantis and he has gone absolutely nowhere but further down the toilet as a candidate... What I'll add now is something that I didn't see back then... It seems to me at this point in time that RFK Jr is running as an Independent candidate in order to hopefully draw more votes away from Trump than from Biden (well, more likely Newsom or some other replacement candidate). I really do hope that people ultimately go back home to voting for Trump instead of voting for RFK Jr. Why? RFK believes in "Climate Crisis" and that whole agenda would continue forward under his watch. I also don't trust him on guns.
Haley advances. Tim Scott, please drop out, urge others to follow and unite behind Nikki Haley By George F. Will There is national incredulity, exhaustion, embarrassment, disgust and fatalism about the political parties’ inability to generate palatable presidential choices. Tim Scott could alter this with a trifecta of statesmanlike acts: withdrawing from the competition for the Republican presidential nomination, challenging others to do likewise and exhorting them to join him in supporting Nikki Haley. . . .
Anyone who thinks current Republican party will nominate a brown woman as their presidential candidate, lives in alternative reality.
I think she has a real chance. Remember, both she and Tim Scott were elected by Republicans in South Carolina.
As a said in my previous post, if you think Nikki H can win GOP primary, you are not paying attention to what is going on in your party or you just don’t want to accept the reality that “party of Reagan or Bush” doesn’t exist. But no point to argue, the primary will be over by February, and we will find out.,
Yes, because so many have been "driven out of office". And do you have any particular case in mind where courts are "abusing the electoral system"?
