I can assure you, your not covering anything from me. I make sure I'm covered even if that means I cannot afford luxuries such a as ball game. If I have discretionary income, it's not for you to chose how I spend but thanks to some people who actually chose to live off others, now my once affordable healthcare policy has gone up 13% on my premiums and 136% on my deductible.

Then you don't have to worry about it, if you have insurance then nobody is telling you how to spend your money, you are choosing to do that yourself by getting insurance. And if your premium has gone up, it's mostly because of the GOP's rhetoric that caused insurance companies to raise their premiums "before" Obamacare went into effect, because they knew they wouldn't be able to do that once it did.

I really don't much care how you spend your money, but I'm sick and tired of paying for all those people who can afford to buy insurance but choose not to and then go to the ER to be treated, and then complain that the government is telling them how to spend their money, now that the rules are being changed.

Honestly.. has anyone looking at O-care rates not had this experience? Is anyone actually *saving* any money now that it's in force?

Sorry, we have the right to ask you to share our costs for the sickest. Premiums include costs for those who get sick or become disabled. You are a part of our society and we take care of the needed. If you do not like that, leave.

The penalties for not getting insurance are the costs that you did not want to share. It will never equal the amount that you would have to pay for proper insurance. If you want to take a chance on going bankrupt, have at it.

Yes and yes. But anecdote evidence is weak evidence. Try looking at the big picture. See how many have signed by Jan 1st and then what happens. You guys have been pretty bad on predictions.

I pay those cost today in my current taxes and my existing premiums. You, however, have no right to how I spend my discretionary income. I pay my taxes and my premiums monthly but people want more to redistribute without even a blink of an eye to what was ailing the system to begin with. Not one ounce of tort reform. Matter of fact, they allowed for more potential suits going forward under ACA. This will drive doctors MPI up even further while they are receiving less. They found the ultimate way to destroy an industry in one swoop and now we all will pay the price with higher cost, less quality and much longer wait times with less doctors! Well done!

The chances are that someone making 100k+ a year are most likely receiving company provided medical benefits and as such ACA will not apply to them.

Yep, it is a snake oil scheme. They say your plan will only cost say, $6500/yr for a family, but in the fine print it says NO BENEFITS WILL KICK IN UNTIL AFTER THE $12,500 DEDUCTIBLE IS MET! That means you will be paying for just about everything out of your pocket unless it is over $12,500. Yeah, really affordable!

Don't forget, your premium does NOT go toward your deductible either. You're basically paying for catastrophic insurance but everything else will be out of pocket. People who thought they were getting free insurance now are seeing that they are not only not getting free insurance, but are probably in worse shape under the new ACA than they were for sure.

Yep... I only ran up a 12k bill in the ER once in my life. If I had a plan like that I would have been paying cash out of my pocket for everything except that one thing. Yes, it is ONLY catastrophic insurance. Go get a test for 2k? Pay out of pocket.

Bearack and SourD are making things up.

Most existing policies easily meet ACA standards, and SourD wants to pretend that only catastrophic policies are available through the exchanges.

LOL, so is the blogger from the Daily Kos?? They same people advocated the ACA? There are stories everywhere and I'm a LIVE example of it! You sir, are the one who is making things up!

Sample from MY company healthcare provider!

“This letter is to advise you of certain changes to your health coverage with [insurer] that are required by the Affordable Care Act (ACA). … Since your current benefit plan does not conform to these new mandates, your current plan will cease upon your anniversary date on 1/1/2014 and, in accordance with the ACA, you will be required to select a new ACA-compliant plan in order to continue your coverage.”

Doesn't look like much of anything is available through the exchanges:

There is your all powerful state, the Great Oz at the machine. All suck, all the time. Get used to fail, Baby!

That will change in 2018 as companies are charged a 40% excise tax on "Cadillac plans".
For a family of four, you are looking at about $2100 per year just to opt out and get nothing in 2016... and it only goes up after that based on the CPI.

You guys have no idea the level of suck coming.

Americans already do that. When the poor go to the emergency room for treatment, or the county hospital for treatment and don't have to pay, we do with over charges they charge us to make up the loss to the poor. It's always been that way. Ask anyone in the medical profession.

You have to wonder if the flaws in the system were not done intentionally. I would have thought if the government really wanted this to be successful, they would have made sure that their system could handle the flow. Our current technology is certainly capable of high traffic and the fact is they had plenty of time to make this work.

When they built Denver International Airport, they spent MILLIONS of dollars on a baggage system that never worked. The post office hasn't worked since about 1948. And we are trusting our goberment overlords with this??

About what? You don't care? You don't think it will matter? You don't think it will happen? How do you defend this? How do you defend middle class and poor people paying thousands of dollars to NOT participate?
