Trevor Berbick was a extremely dangerous fighter. I can only laugh when you talk about boxing legends like scrubs and call one of the best Pound for pound fighters in the world a coward. You're super hard dude.[/QUOTE] Boxing legends? You cannot be serious!! You think if some one is a champion that makes them a great fighter. I cannot take such unimaginably stupid statements seriously. David Haye is the current WBA heavyweight champion, is he a great fighter? Buster Douglass beat Tyson, and he was heavyweight champion, was he a great fighter? You are telling me that good, but not even remotely great fighters are great. It is extraordinarily silly.
It would be a good fight....if they were anywhere close to being the same size. Donaire is a bantamweight, and not a big one either.
LOL, Mayweather was 2 lbs over weight and weighed in 4 lbs over Marquez. You seriously are going to try to convince me that was the difference in that fight? Thank god people don't take that attitude towards HWs. Floyd OUTBOXED Marquez, it had nothing to do with a few pounds. Jesus, he won every round.
What do you consider a great fighter then? A list of 10 HWs you saw on ESPN? Or an all time great or what? All of those fighters previously mentioned were beasts for their respective times. Currently, yes, David Haye is a great fighter for his time. He's not even a natural HW. He just ran through everyone at cruiserweight and couldn't get any big money fights at 200 lbs or under. How many people outside of the Russian brothers in the world do you think could beat him at cruiser or heavyweight?
Haye is also a ducker... thankfully he's finally gonna fight Klitschko... I think... ducking that one fighter, esp. when it's a major opponent, mars your legacy to a degree... Peace. E
If he could have easily lost 2 more pounds, and it would have made NO difference, he would have done it. Clearly it made some difference, because he was unable to make the weight. Struggling to make weight(as anyone who knows even the smallest amount about boxing knows) is a serious problem for many boxers. Many boxers have blamed that struggle for lesser performances. Yet you think it doesn't matter at all? Very strange.
No, I said it didn't matter at all in his fight against Marquez. He embarrassed Marquez. Weight had nothing to do with Marquez getting outclassed by a superior boxer. They could fight 100 times at any (*)(*)(*)(*)ing weight and you'd see the exact same thing happen. After watching that fight I don't know how anyone can even say Marquez is even remotely as talented as Mayweather.
He isn't, but he is a technically brilliant fighter and an incredibly smart fighter. The difference between the 2 is extraordinary differences in hand speed. Mayweather beat Marquez to the punch every time. Struggling to make weight does zap you of something, and having to make weight could cause enough of a difference to make it a closer fight. I do agree that Mayweather would beat Marquez no matter how many times they fought, it would just have been a closer fight without Mayweathers cheating!!
No, it wouldn't have been a closer fight, as Mayweather's weight wasn't a factor. It wasn't like he was bullying Marquez around the ring. He was, as you've already stated, simply outboxing and out-speeding him.
Its not just their prime. Its also his prime. Most of the prime fighters he fought he was well past his prime and lost. There are no great wins in his career when he was on top and that is just bad luck because he was a great fighter. Ken Norton - 35 When he fought Holmes Trevor Berbick - Not a great fighter Mike Tyson - Holmes Wasn't in his prime Leon Spinks - Definitely not a great fighter and most certainly not when he fought Holmes Gerry Coony - See above his sole claim to fame is beating an over the hill Norton Tim Witherspoon - Not a great fighter Carl Williams - See above Michael Spinks - A great light heavyweight Evander Holyfield - Holmes was past his prime Oliver McCaill - Holmes was past his prime
Which is exactly what I said. I agree completely. Holmes like Mayweather was a great fighter who never beat any other great fighters in their prime. The difference is Holmes prime did not coincide with the prime of any other great fighters. Mayweather could certainly have fought Mosely 5 years ago. Or even 12 years ago at lightweight(where Mosely was truly great), he didn't. He could have fought De La Hoya 3-5 years earlier. He chose not to fight them. I think Mayweather is a truly great fighter, but he has done himself a huge disservice by consistently avoiding challenging fights.
The difference between Holmes and Mayweather is that Holmes division, heavyweight, was weak when he was in his prime. Mayweather on the other hand was in an absolutely stacked welterweight division at the time and he spent 3 years ducking the whole division. He ducked, Mosley, he ducked Cotto, he ducked Margarito, he ducked Williams. He refused to fight any of the top welters while he was champion. Its one thing to not have big wins because the division was weak as was the case for Holmes. Its another to not have a big win because you wouldn't fight the best fighters in your division. Mayweather seems to think that if he retires undefeated he will be considered the greatest. Tell that to Marciano, and Calzaghe both considered great fighters, Marciano far more than Calzaghe but they are way down the list of all time greats and not even close to tops in their own divisions. Being undefeated isn't the be all end all.
This fight is not close. Mosely is just running, hoping to go the distance. He seems to have no interest in winning this fight!!
Pacquiao really seemed to pick up the pace after the knockdown that wasn't a knockdown. If Mayweather ever stops ducking the fight, the Pacquiao from the first 10 rounds would lose a decision to Mayweather. If the Pacquiao from the time after the non-knockdown shows up, it will be a great fight!! Lets hope that Mayweather stops ducking the fight, and we get to see the best fight in decades. As Mayweather vs Pacquiao would be a match between 2 truly great fighters!!!
Not going to happen Mayweather is fighting Ortiz. Oh well Ortiz is a good young fighter and Mayweather is 34. I see a good potential of a trap here. Ive been impressed with Ortiz since he fired grandpa and started being trained by Danny Garcia.
I think Ortiz has the potential to beat Mayweather... not saying it's definite, just that he's got the tools to get it done... we'll see... Peace. E
Anyone at that level has the potential to beat anyone, it's boxing after all, it only takes one punch... That being said, the only way he beats Mayweather is if he gets a lucky punch off or Mayweather doesn't take the fight seriously. Mayweather is twice the boxer Ortiz is, and a hook artist like Ortiz is going to get his ears counter punched off by the best active counter puncher in the world.
