Perry Claims NITROUS OXIDE levels down 46%

Mr Science said during the debate last night that nitrous oxide levels were down 46%.

Nitrous Oxide is laughing gas....and a high for abusers who can get their hands on it. The assumption would be that Perry Meant Nitrogen Oxide. But even on the claim of reducing Nitrogen Oxide by 46% is only "Half True" according to Politifact.

What's funny is none of the MSNBC commentators picked up on the mistake....even in the post-analysis. I recognized it as a gaffe as soon as he said it.

This is kind of bad for him to be screwing up on what is obviously prepared material that he likely rehearsed. Also, he butchered Galileo's name and said something like Ga-lay-oh.


He's pretty rough around the edges intellectually and seems to have a shallow understanding of a lot of things. This won't matter to his supporters, but given his tendency to speak his mind, this guy's going to be a gaffe machine that rivals Joe Biden.

Verbal gaffes by themselves don't bother me too much. Anybody who talks alot makes them.

But when you mix verbal gaffes with intellectual confusion, anti-science, and a lack of historical knowledge, you get dimwits like Perry, Palin and Bachmann. If you're going to deny global warming, at least get your gasses right.

You apparently didn't watch the debate, or like most Tea Partiers, didn't catch Perry's gaffe. Like I say, a verbal gaffe is no big deal, but if you are going to enter the realm of denialism and attack scientists, at least get your gasses right.

 

Alright, here we go:


1) Perry actually said "Nitrous Oxide" in the debate.

2) I pointed that he had to be incorrect because Nitrous Oxide is laughing gas.

3) What he actually claimed to have reduced previously, in 2010, was Nitrogen Oxide....yes, the actual pollutant..but that claim is only half-true according to Politifact.


That's about as clear as I can put it....It's not Racket Science, Ernsteen...

 

Libs, this fixes unemployment how ? This gets folks working again how ? This is part of a real solution to our debt how ?

Yes.....in this case, he's taking a stance on scientific research. So it is more troubling than simply mispronouncing a word.

Depth of understanding and intellectual curiosity are my concerns. If you're going to be president, you need to actually understand the issues.
