Texas Deficit Estimate Comes In Worse Than The Worst Expectations

"So, Texas Gov. Rick Perry has thrown his hat into the whacked-out GOP presidential multi-ring circus. Get ready to hear a lot of hot air and false information, especially on Faux News and other corporate media outlets, about the "Texas economic miracle." The only problem is that that "miracle" is phony. Texas is in very serious financial trouble, to the tune of a $27 billion deficit. As is typical of ideologically poisoned Republicans, the legislature first pledged to close the budget gap by cutting services alone.
The immediate cut to services would have been so draconian - end all Medicaid payments, immediately cut payments to school districts by 25%, and lay off tens of thousands of state employees - that Rick Perry, who had emphatically stated that the state would not dip into its $9.2 billion rainy day fund to help balance the budget, finally agreed to use a $3.2 billion fund withdrawal to temporarily close the budget gap. How temporary? Until August 31, when the state will have to figure out how to plug a remaining $23 billion shortfall in its next two-year budget. Even so, Perry was touting the Texas "miracle" only weeks ago while fully knowledgeable about the horrible fiscal mess.

I don't think Rick Perry wants anyone to publicize some other facts about conditions in the state of Texas today. Let's just say it's a great place to live if you are loaded with money, but woe to you if you are not."

Texas ranked second in the nation in job losses.

    http://texaskaos.com/diary/6947/rick-perry-lies-about-job-growth-in-texas

Texas actually lost 352,500 non-farm jobs from 2008 to December 2009, according to seasonally adjusted data from the Texas Workforce Commission.
Over the past three years, the period cited in the Journal, Texas lost 61,600 jobs, according to Workforce Commission data from March 2008 to March 2011.

    The Minimum Wage Trap

    http://www.nytimes.com/roomfordebat...obs-juggernaut/the-minimum-wage-trap-in-texas

    http://www.commentarymagazine.com/2011/08/15/perry-texas-minimum-wage/

"Much of Texas’s recent growth is the result of adding low-wage jobs. Of the 211,000 jobs added last year, 37 percent (or more than 76,000) paid at or below minimum wage, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Texas now leads the nation in minimum-wage workers (550,000 in all). That hasn't improved our income inequality. Despite the good economy, Texas remains a state of extreme wealth and desperate poverty."

"The report by the National Employment Law Project, a liberal research and advocacy group, found that while 60 percent of the jobs lost during the downturn were in midwage occupations, 73 percent of the jobs added since the recession ended had been in lower-wage occupations, like cashier, stocking clerk or food preparation worker."

Perry not responsable for the growth he likes to advocate

"But the main drivers of growth in Texas — our mild climate, inexpensive cost of living and low-tax, anti-regulatory policies — were in place long before Governor Perry took office and will remain long after he’s gone. The policies have helped generate economic growth, but there’s a tradeoff."

    Solution according to perry:

    http://money.cnn.com/2011/01/19/news/economy/texas_budget_deficit/index.htm

"The spending plan calls for a 13% hit to public education and a 7.6% drop in higher education support. Among the cuts, funding for pre-K Early Start programs would be slashed, and four community colleges would be closed.

Such a drastic decline in public education support could be problematic because it would drop the education budget below a level mandated by the state, and force the legislature to change the law."

Health and human services would see funding plummet by nearly a quarter, while government services would fall by almost the same percentage.

Nearly 9,300 government jobs would be eliminated and Medicaid providers would see a 10% rate reduction. Fewer residents would receive meal deliveries and services to keep them in their homes. Some 60,000 students would lose financial aid for college.

Funding for defending the poor in court would drop by 15%. And the department that supervises and supports parolees would by cut by nearly 21%.

    Let the poop slinging begin

You Libs are starting to show that Perry is a very serious threat and the more fear you show towards him ,the more Im starting to want to back him.And I knew it was matter of time before you started to spend hours pathetically Googling all the dirt on him you can find.
Keep it up since his record is nowhere as atrocious as Obamas.
And believe me,I can dig up even worse dirt on Obama.
I can dig up his administrative and budget handling record.
Oh wait, nevermind,he doesnt have one, except being a community organizer and a half-term Senator.

Ya know, I'm not so hot about Perry either. I have some serious misgivings about the guy. I think he's a ringer being brought in to keep Michele Bachmann out of the nomination. Pawlenty didn't have the chops. Santorum doesn't have the organization. Cain is mainly a southern candidate. Romney is a (*)(*)(*)(*)ed RINO from hell.

They are really (*)(*)(*)(*)ed afraid of what Bachmann would do as president.

All the things you don't like about Perry, you love and defend for Obama, why is that?

With your endless posts on how great Obama is, you are being incredibly hypocritical against Perry, amazingly disingenuous K.

We do have to be careful. Going with the "anybody but Obama" could be as much as a disaster as the "anybody but Bush" folks brought us. I can't imagine a president worse than Obama but perhaps Jimmy Carter will mount a challenge to Obama.

President Obama is quite mad. He's certifiable. Unfortunately, his supporters are even more out of touch with reality.

    Obama's real record:

    ZERO!

Still just a community organizer that has accomplished nothing in his lifetime.

I have to agree with you and unbubba. I have yet to see one candidate that doesn't deliver every word from their mouth as a canned soundbite. Is there not one person besides Chris Christy that can speak honestly from their heart, instead of these ginned up platitudes?

Politicians are scary phony people for the most part, it seems their intention is, "it's all about me", instead of it's all about us.

Well you obviously don't listen to conservative talk radio. There are a lot of reservations about Perry from our side. A LOT! Rick Perry worked for the Al Gore campaign against GW Bush.
I don't vote for people like that.

Obama hasn't even succeeded in creating low-wage jobs.

All he's good at is extending unemployed benefits so that Obama voters will not have to find a job.

Oh, you mean like his massive unemployment? Libturds defend it as if unemployment was as significant a contribution as a job, just ask Pelosi.

Point is K, you are continually defending the failed economy from Obama, everything he has done, or really not done, is perfectly fine with you. Low wage jobs? Obama should be so lucky to create and promote those, except he advocates keeping those types of jobs for illegals.

LOL, he's trying to recover from a bad situation alright... one he created during his first few months in office when he spent over $1 trillion.

Look in the mirror, k995 and repeat slowly after me. Obaaaaaaaama.

Sorry but the "average" American, as I define it, or what an American is supposed to be:

Secondary School Educated, tech and business savvy, etc, ambituous, optimistic, and looking for opportunities at every turn. These "average Americans" don't need or want your (*)(*)(*)(*)ing help.

The shlub flipping burgers in McDonald's or Walmart because his factory died? There is no help for those people. They have to help themselves or die.

Just a thought... there are many who would say that you who can stand here in the middle of all this unspeakably immense, complex creation, which extends for unlimited billions of light-years in all directions, and which is made up of unlimited billions of galaxies consisting of trillions of stars, and say that you are ones who are "nuts" and "certifiable" for actually thinking that all of this happened by accident...?! :omg:

I think I've just thought up a new sig line: "Atheists are accidents, too!"

A lie? No, it is you who are lying K, please watch the video, it really will make you sick to think this (*)(*)(*)(*)ing politician was once 3rd in line to the presidency.

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cAhmYKlsWW4&feature=player_embedded"]Pelosi: Unemployment Checks Serve As "Job Creator" - YouTube[/ame]

Obama (*)(*)(*)(*)ups are more of his inept concept on how an economy works, it has what we have come to expect from a community organizer. Obama is definitely all show and no go.
