    Most russians present in eastern European nations have been brought as colonisers during tzarist or ussr times.

    Ukrainians have the God given right to self determination. The Russians are the invaders even if they invaded generations ago or 2014 or 2022.

    Interesting theory. Xi certainly holds the whip hand in the relationship since the first Russian invasion of Ukraine & subsequent sanctions. China's reluctance to commit publically to helping Russia likely has the Kremlin concerned. I'm not sure if the story is accurate, but it is certainly possible.

    Also worth noting that India is clearly upset with the war. Though that is of lesser importance than China, Putin can't affort to alienate such important nations that are notionally friendly.

    Of course, trying to force a successful conclusion by just forcing more men down the pipeline isn't going to work. It isn't 1917.
