The old man is Stage 4.

    Lungs, liver, brain, kidneys.

Making arrangements to go upstate, & help my mother, help him to die in peace.

Bless you.......I hope you have some time with him. I did with my father just before he died and we were able to share memories. He had forgotten some of them and so did I but we connected. He had Parkinsons.

Spent last weekend up there with them.

We haven't had a great relationship my whole life...

All that crap is out the door now, & it's rough to see how this disease is destroying him.

His mind's going, can't walk well, well. You know the rest.

I mean ... For now, he's still ambulatory, but probably not much longer. He was in the hospital all day today, to get a transfusion.... Getting harder & harder to cross-match blood too, mdue to his having a ton of antibodies built up, from the Chemo, & the transfusions he's already had... Ir's usually only a few units at a time, but....

Like my daughter, his cancer isn't spreading more, but in my pop's case, well, the damage is done, just a matter of time.... & he's getting tired, I could see it in his eyes.

    .

My dad was the stoic type. Old fashioned values, etc. I finally had to tell him that he needed help. I suddenly became the 'adult'......I arranged for him to have in-home care 24/7. I really wish I would have taken him home with me but, his wife (step mother) had all the power.

Believe me, I understand completely. Hang in there.

Yes, you are now the adult and your father is in need of care. That is a heavy burden to bear. To see one's father needy is especially hard for sons. I wish you all the best.

I don't think people realize that I type, like I talk.

Sometimes My comments don't read well, but alas, I'm not about to change my style.

The emergency trip upstate, turned out to be warranted.

The cancers in his brain, jaw, esophagus, lungs, liver & kidneys have all grown again, since the last scans 2 months ago.

His mobility since being admitted Thursday night, due to a reaction to a medication dealing with a bladder issue, has dropped to being able to get himself to the edge of the bed, swinging his legs over the edge, & Just being able to slowly lift himself up, & swing himself to a chair.....

I don't think pops has even another 90 days left in him.

Will find out a clearer picture tomorrow, when his doctor goes into more detail.

So far, oddly enough, the only thing he says really hurts, is the cancer in his jaw.

His initial rounds of Chemo, & Radiation, he took relatively well.

He's contemplating chemo again..... He's not sure it will be worth the effort though.

Well, they released him to a Home, for PT...

The man will now be more or less expected to be relatively "active" for at a minimum 3 hours a day.

He got there Monday night, after having a "good" day.

Today, (Tuesday) he wasn't able to eat, was throwing up a lot, & really didn't do anything.

Plus, the cancer in his brain, has him not 100%, (more nearer to say 40%) on where he is.... Even tonight, when he was ready for bed, my mother had to remind him, he WAS in bed...Now, he can't string together 3 "good" days in a row.

I guess he's starting Radiation/Chemo again Friday... Limited to his Jaw(?).

Thing is, I'm sure if he doesn't again become more mobile, he'll have to discharge home... For Hospice.

I'm starting to think, (as of Sunday afternoon, prior to coming back home) that my mother is projecting her want for him to be more... IDK how to say it.... Animated maybe(?) & get BACK to a state he was in, in the beginning of all this, roughly a year ago....

At the time they accidentally found the cancer in his lungs, he was 3-B....

Now, with the cancer at stage 4, throughout his body, I think maybe it would be best, to just bring him home.

This is a wish he has verbalized to me, last weekend.... My mother said, that she thinks he was just afraid he'd be going to this Home for good.... And doesn't want that.

I'm getting the impression, he just tries to do whatever my mother seems to want him to do.

With his mind going, I'm having a difficult time, sorting things.

One thing's for sure, this weekend's been FANTASTIC!

I know dad perks up when we're around, I caught the reaction this Afternoon, after coming back from his nap. He's moving well, all things considered, so getting him back in the house, without it being end-of care, is looking to be going on track.

Professionally, & to a lesser extent, things with my wife as well, are all set for my coming up here to stay, for however long needed.

Get to spend time with Pops, & give my mother a much needed reprieve.

    Not bad things.

Glad This caught my eye first.

The weekend went great... Up until it was time to come home.

When we left, he was napping, to get ready for P/T, then Dinner.

    Things are really hectic.

I'm feeling guilty for missing all but a month of tge first 12 after diagnosis. The 18 laid out then, is mighty close now, & he's going to get a massive focused blast of radiation at the mandible, for a tiny .75" x .25" tumor, but it's hoped it will help him eat better, to gain strength for his next round of Chemo.

    Much on my mind.

At least my daughter's still doing good with her Gleevec maintence doses for CML.

Thanks for tge eyes Chef, much appreciated.

    Just got off the phone.

Looks like he was simply tired from visits on Saturday... LOL, as a family, when more than 2 of us are in one spot, it can get animated... & a bit loud....

Anyway, he had a great day today, & his initial review, like a weekly progress thing, is on track for home-release in the timeframe hoped for.

    God is Great.

There was a huge praying mantis on my screen door the other day. It stayed all day and night and was gone the next morning. It was pretty cool. It would turn it's head and look at me every time I went out there. Lol.
