Reagan visits concentration camp and war cemetery - May 5, 1985 - HISTORY.com

"At an American airbase later that day, after having been told of the SS troops buried at Bitburg, Reagan shared his regret over the visit, saying it had, 'opened old wounds.' Reagan's advisors later admitted that the Bitburg visit was a fiasco that had tarnished the president's image."

The visit to Bitburg was STUPID …

"Bonzo" and his handler-sponsors knew weeks ahead of time that it was a STUPID idea …

But they STUPIDLY went ahead anyway -- "I was only following orders … "

    But, wait …

You can't have it both ways …

"The G9 Summit was years in planning … " …
but ... then the "Bonzo" devotee-acolytes go on to claim that the Bitburg visit was a last minute addition …
    Which was it … ???

He went there BECAUSE he cared.

    - - - Updated - - -

They were two entirely separate events why do you conflate them?

    (1) "Gipper" went to Bitburg because he was a sock-puppet who went where his handler-sponsors arranged …

    (2) Someone else (above) "conflated" (a) the G9 Summit and (b) the Bitburg visit, and I responded ...

Meanwhile, in Russia, Czar Vlad Putin is immensely "popular" … So what … ???
In Germany, 1933-45, der Fuhrer was positively adored …

President "Gipper" was a Grade-B actor who was skilled at delivering lines provided by others ("We're doing everything we can … " -- Nancy) in a play directed by others (his "advisors") on a stage set by others (Bitburg, etc.) …

He was a sock puppet empty suit …

Former Secretary of Defense, and major advisor to four different presidents (Truman, Kennedy, Johnson and Carter), Clark Clifford once described President "Bonzo" as "an amiable dunce" ...

And again proving you know nothing about him. You should read all the policy papers he wrote before he became President.

"Only once in his long career did he step out of character, and that was when he referred to President Ronald Reagan as an "amiable dunce." The remark was made at a private dinner party but, unknown to Clifford, a tape recording had been made so that the hostess, who was ill with the flu and unable to come to her own party, could hear what was expected to be some sparkling conversation. Excerpts from that tape were published out of context.

Clifford explained his remark this way: "In the fall of 1982, President Reagan said he would cut taxes by $750 billion, substantially increase defense expenditures and balance the budget in the 1984 fiscal year. Those were public promises. I made a comment that if he would accomplish that feat, he'd be a national hero. If, on the other hand, it did not work out after such a specific and encouraging promise and commitment, I thought the American people would regard him as an amiable dunce." "
    http://www.arlingtoncemetery.net/cclifford.htm

Clifford was a typical liberal at the time that believe big government and weak foreign policy was the answer. Although they both did agree on an anti-ballistic missile program. Reagan proved him the dunce.

Why do you leave out president of the Screen Actors Guild

"Reagan was first elected to the Board of Directors of the Screen Actors Guild in 1941, serving as an alternate. After World War II, he resumed service and became 3rd vice-president in 1946.[41] The adoption of conflict-of-interest bylaws in 1947 led the SAG president and six board members to resign; Reagan was nominated in a special election for the position of president and subsequently elected.[41] He was subsequently chosen by the membership to serve seven additional one-year terms, from 1947 to 1952 and in 1959.[41] Reagan led SAG through eventful years that were marked by labor-management disputes, the Taft-Hartley Act, House Committee on Un-American Activities (HUAC) hearings and the Hollywood blacklist era.[41]"

and Governor of California, two terms?

"Gipper's" ABM fantasies -- giant lasers powered by H-Bomb explosions (as per Eddie Teller) -- were expensive and never got beyond anything on paper … except that he thus revealed that he sincerely wanted to make Global Thermonuclear War a real possibility … He even joked about it -- "The bombing begins in five minutes … "

    *shudder*

Reaganomics will go down as the worst economic strategy for the second time in our history; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZdCNGkZoIZw And since that will be and has been the case, going down as best, is hardly eating me alive, because it just isn't so.

Furthermore, "Gipper" set the stage for today's almost completely dysfunctional GOP, led by the likes of Trump, Cruz, Palin, Carson, and such …

Early on, his administration (his wise advisors) aggressively courted the extreme right wing religious wackos (Jerry Falwell, et al.), wanting the Grand Old Party to be an ever expanding "big tent" …

So, today's "big tent" GOP features guys like David Duke, the gun nut "militia" guys, Christine "I Am Not A Witch" McDonnell, Sharron "Second Amendment Remedy" Angle, Michele "Crazy Eyes" Bachmann, The Tea Bag Party, etc., etc. ...

Reagan really used conventional government tactics. As president, he based tax policy on what John Kennedy had done. Many presidents had reduced taxes.

What, the Right Wing Wackos just sneaked in, *camel's*nose*under*the*tent* kind of thing … ???
    Falwell & Co. WEREN'T invited … ???
    Sorry, you're wrong …

The "Bonzo" GOP specifically invited The Right Wing Fundamentalist anti-science anti-evolution guys and are living to regret it
(well, except of course, "Bonzo" himself, who had his lavish nine day State Funeral, with Nancy escorted everywhere by that dashing military officer -- whoever he was -- way back in 2004 …
Given the astonishing devotion to "Gipper," by now I would have expected that his loyal acolytes would be pressing for Sainthood, since he certainly must be credited with at least the required two miracles by now … ) ...

There was nothing wrong with Falwell when alive. The balance is diversion. To amuse yourself.

Although Reagan was great. I personally feel Lincoln was the best. The end of slavery was a huge step in the right direction. Some people say Lincoln had slaves, to me if true, that just shows how willing he was to go against his beliefs for the country's sake. The one thing I wished he never would have done is bring in the first dollar, or note. This is something the founders said to never do. Currency should always be of coin, and the coins should hold valuable metals to ensure their value. This restricts government spending because you can't create bronze, silver, gold, and I think copper out of thin air.

If we stuck with the coin currency, our country would more than likely be BOOMING! And far beyond what it is now.
