Many owners do, do it themselves. Or have their children or some high school kid help out. That help is worth something, which is why they pay for it. It's just not worth much, which is why they don't pay much for it.

If Joe the burger flipper went on strike it wouldn't be the end of McDonald's. They'd find another way to get the job done. When it stopped being cost effective to have gas station attendants pump gas, Chevron didn't go out of business.

Let me guess.........they'd deliver burgers using a drone. Let's see now, that just leaves taking the order and heating up the meat. I'll bet those wiley bastards would use robots and lasers. Most of the franchise owners are about as smart as Herman Cain.......you remember that genius and his nine, nine, nine strategy :gop:

I don't know what all the solutions will be. But a San Francisco company is already constructing food cafes based on a very cost effective robotic oven that prepares hamburgers and other food safer, cleaner, and more consistently than human food workers.

And ordering? McDonalds has been experimenting with call center based drive throughs for a decade and Carl's Jr, Taco Bell, and McDonalds are currently installing touch screen ordering systems. A couple companies are working on a system for placing your order and paying for it via your iPhone.

You might want to talk to Dominoes about your drone idea. Although delivery places seem more interested in the potential of Google cars right now.

No, your average franchise owner isn't a genius. Neither is your average bank manager or office building owner. But buying an ATM or a driver-less elevator didn't take a genius.

There's one thing you can bet your ass on.....McDonalds has 761,000 employees. The day they can do anything $1 an hour cheaper than what they're paying them all the employees will be phased out.

A company shows zero compassion, zero interest, zero care for their employees and that includes their managerial staff. Did you know the economy is up, the stock market is up, the unemployment is down to where it was in July 2008, 5.9% and guess what isn't? That's right sports fans....when adjusted for inflation employees are earning the same wages they had in 1989.

The low down bastards will be satisfied when an American worker earns the same as a Malaysian day laborer with no benefits. Unions and strikes are the only thing which will make them toe the mark again......you know, like back when we still had a middle class.

Unions and strikes would do what they always done...cause unemployment.

Y'know, one would think that a person who has reached your alleged advanced age would have figured out that unions only work in the absence of competition.

I have three children, eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. When I was born in 1934 this nation was in a totally unbelievable condition(Thanks To A Hoover Rich Republican Bank And Stock Market Crash.) Franklin Roosevelt saved this country from an unbelievable situation where people were working for $0.75 a day and the unemployment rate where I was born approached 50%. I've seen grown men cry because they couldn't put enough food on the table for their children to eat. You are more than likely an employee of this Republican rag and haven't done an honest day's work in your life...at least that's what I will continue to believe.

Figures? My daddy ruptured himself lifting loads from skids working in a box factory. There were no unions, there were no benefits, there was no such thing as time off for any reason. The second day he missed they fired him and took one of the ten men waiting for work. The first full time job with a regular paycheck he ever had was on the WPA drawing $3.60 a week for six days labor. When I look around at the Take It For Granted Republican ********s today I want to puke.

Looking at the prices of health care, homes and automobiles, I think we all deserve higher pay than we're getting.

*shrug* The American Elevator Co. didn't see people driving their own elevators. Bankers didn't see people withdrawing their own money. Now we have automatic elevators, ATMs, and robotic ovens.

So you're OK with people working 50-60 hours a week and living at or below the poverty rate? Is that what you're telling us?

I suppose that depends on where you live. Planned Parenthood doesn't pay its assistants $15 an hour, so why should Walmart?

Don't order from them anymore. If enough people stop ordering lunch from them they will go out of business and he won't have a job. If everyone keeps on ordering food from them the market has spoken.

    Everything else is hot air.

at 8$/hour, that's 25k a year (even if the 20 hours over 40 is from a 2nd job and not eligible for time and a half....)

if the 60 hours is at one job and they get time and a half.... that's 29k a year.... for a min wage job.

spare me the dramatics of "it's not liveable" or even below poverty line.... thats for just one person. I work 60 hours a week.....

I don't know where you live, but in my area... 30k is a very decent living.... so long as you don't over extend yourself and manage your finances. You'll never 'keep up with the Joneses" on that.... but you can start a life.

pair it up with a spouse that makes the same..... and you have a household making close to 60k

    - - - Updated - - -

he probably won't... but you're missing the point.... why is that kid that screwed up 3 times in as many tries, deserve 15$ an hour.

Nah, you're missing the point. If he's unemployed he'll be making $0 per hour. If he's still working he must be doing something right. Thats free market ideology.

no, it proves he's only worth employment at $8. as evidenced by his ineptness in even simple tasks, he failed. $15 wages should be reserved for those that are worth $15.

if he doesn't like the standard of living associated with $8/hour.... improve yourself...

Not really, I think they should do something more productive with their time. I also don't think they should be required to make the choices I might have made were I living their life, so I guess we both have to live with the life their luck and their choices produced.

For the record, I'm also not OK with cancer. But, I don't feel responsible for it either.

It says the OP is from the Chicago area. $15 an hour in Chicago is not much. Traffic in Chicago is also horrendous, so delivering a sandwich in 30 minutes to a downtown office building at the lunch hour is a reasonable amount of time assuming you were not the only customer he or she was delivering to on that particular sandwich run...forgetting a pen, yes that's indicative of an unprepared sandwich delivery person. A pen is a tool of the trade.

I would have said, young man or lady, as it were...I'm going to give you some advice, as your job often entails having a customer sign a receipt it's a good idea to always carry a pen, you may keep the pen.
