---That apparently didn't make a difference when the OP decided he not only needed someone to make a sandwich for him but he needed it delivered across the street. If the OP was too busy to perform that simple tasks it is reasonable that the sandwich shop is busy. Just sayin'.

I read it, as I was saying, perhaps he wasn't the only customer on that particular delivery. Do they not double up on orders? or does the delivery person make a run for only one customer at a time...which seems highly inefficient to me.

I'm not aware of how that particular industry works, but I was in the delivery business and as a freighter...orders were not delivered to one customer at a time per delivery. I would assume a busy sandwich place near office buildings would deliver to multiple customers on a single run.

Plus, how do we know the delay wasn't from the sandwich preparers? or perhaps they were short staffed on delivery persons and he was delayed from another sandwich run.

The OP is assuming the 30 minute wait time is the fault of the delivery person. There's no way to prove that.

Say what you will, they often risk their lives trying to meet a customer's expectations of "freaky fast delivery."

You see the marketers and ad campaign folks don't care if the delivery person is faced with bad weather, or heavy traffic, maybe they are stuck behind a school bus. The marketers and ad campaign folks care about a gimmick..."freaky fast delivery." So when it takes a normal amount of time to deliver their sandwich to them, say 30 minutes. The customer then thinks the delivery person is a screw up...as though they were expected to ignore the school bus stopped in front of them letting off children, ignore the inclement weather and exceed the speed limit all so the customer would be amazed by the "freaky fast delivery."

My point is, it's a job...a young man or woman is out there driving around so you don't have to. You'll get your sandwich soon enough, to demand that the delivery person disregards their own personal safety to get the sandwich delivered faster to you...is not a reasonable expectation.

listen, though, you don't have to convince me fast food jobs suck. I've been at Wendys for 5 years during college... I've been a server, a brief stent at Pizza Hut.... trust me, I know, service industry sucks, and dealing with food and hot grills and grease ups the danger (vs working in retail at JC Pennys)

but I, just like everyone that has ever worked before me, with me, or after me... has a choice in life..... show the motivation and work ethic, and improve yourself to escape said jobs.... or don't. it's pretty simple.

if you end up at 35, flipping burgers.... it's time for self-reflection

I acknowledged they should have had a pen. Maybe they are new at the job. We all make mistakes, the important thing is to learn from them.

I worked at a car wash, where the car was guided on rollers with the car in neutral. On several occasions the car would roll over my foot as I was leaning over to dry the hood, as the car was rolling off the line at the end of the wash. We were told no belts either, since a belt buckle could scratch the car. Anyway, fortunately another co-worker warned me ahead of time to wear steel toed boots, so I never broke any bones or anything.

My point is, I understand what it's like to be yelled out by an irate customer for minimum wage pay, or to endure bad working conditions...it's easy to just stop giving a rat's patoot. So I will always treat the fast food worker, the guy or gal who delivers my pizza with respect and with a good tip when appropriate. It is most often not a career for them it is their introduction to working. Many customers and often management treats them with disrespect...a person working does not deserve to lose their dignity. We don't know the full story of this Jimmy Johns delivery person...maybe he or she just started, wasn't familiar with the building procedures or where to go for deliveries. They did forget a pen, but that can be corrected if you politely tell them, "hey you may need a pen in the future, here's mine you can keep it...always keep a pen on you"...you can be polite about it.

I cannot stand customers that are rude to the employees..no one deserves to lose their dignity. It is bad enough they are at the low end of the pay scale.

    LMAO!

You keep on believing that horse schit. The whole thing is a conspiracy by the companies. They wouldn't pay their own grandmothers a living wage. In the old days, 1960-1985 unions kept them in line. Now they wouldn't pay their own children a living wage if they also had to give it to everyone else. What this country's government should do is reinstate the military draft. That would slow down their ivy league asses.

Richard Nixon took us off the gold standard and did away with the draft. He knew exactly what he was doing. This way the congress can funnel trillions of dollars into the military industrial complex and not worry a minute about their offspring ever having to serve a day in combat.

ok... I understand what you're saying... Absolutely I agree with that.

I have never treated a burger flipper badly. I most certainly wouldn't treat them badly BECAUSE they were a burger flipper. The entire thing of "if you make this burger wrong, I'm going to throw it in your face" customer is an ass....

I view burger-flipping as a first rung on the ladder of success.... some people stay on that rung longer than others.... but even if they are 35, and still on that first rung.... that doesn't mean they are less than me.... but on the same token... does not mean they deserve to make what I did at 35 because they want my lifestyle that I worked hard for.

    - - - Updated - - -

your ignorance of history is telling. The draft has not been abolished... it's still there, we just don't use it.

you think that's a low end of the payscale only problem.... I get questioned daily by people who think they can do my job better than me..... it's called life and is not justification for higher pay.

    Talk about ignorance:

On the day in 1973, as the Vietnam War drew to a close, the Selective Service announced that there would be no further draft calls. The decision came several months after President Richard M. Nixon had easily won reelection, running against Democratic Sen. George McGovern of South Dakota, an outspoken opponent of the war.

In the 1968 presidential campaign, Nixon had promised to end the draft. During his time out of office, the GOP nominee had become interested in the prospect of an all-volunteer force. Nixon was influenced by Martin Anderson, an associate professor at Columbia University.

I agree 100%. I too know exactly how it feels to work a minimum wage job that deals with customer service. Dealing with the public on a daily basis can be very demanding. While most people are polite there is never a shortage of rude people who believe that since they are paying for it they can speak to you in any manner they please. That is why I am very understanding and polite when I go out to eat. Plus I just can't be rude to people unless they are flat out mean. I refer to everyone as sir or ma'am, even kids. People like to feel special and when you give them a title it makes them feel good. Especially kids.

An older gentlemen taught me the value of constructive criticism when I was working in a restaurant. It was working as a waiter and he ordered coffee. I grabbed the cup the way I always do above the rim with my hand covering it and I set it on the table. He drank it without question but as I brought him his check he kindly said "May I offer a bit of friendly advice? In the future I would recommend that you grab the coffee cup by the handle and give it to the customer rather than having your hand over the top, I personally don't mind but some may not want to drink it if your has was over the rim like that".

That blew my mind, I'm used to getting belittled by a customer for making a mistake at work. But rather than get upset and tell me to go and get another one he just politely explained it to me. I don't know what it was about that particular day all those years ago but it stuck with me forever.

I too cannot stand customers who are rude to employees. I've seen employees literally break down and cry because a customer was so rude to them. I saw that happen at a restaurant one time and I wanted nothing more than to walk up and punch that guy in the mouth. All because the poor girl gave him unsweet tea instead of sweat.

I might not be wise but with only a high school education I worked for the same company for 41 years and educated my three kids. I retired 21 years ago to a split level brick rancher on 1 1/2 acres of zoysia grass, an irrigation system which pumps lake water, 220 ft. lake frontage, a dock, a pontoon boat and we have two 2014 cars....everything paid for. I'll take that over wisdom any day.

    Minimum wage?

I worked the first 9 1/2 years in a uranium processing plant(K-25) as a process operator in Oak Ridge, TN then transferred to their computing center in 1961. I first worked as a computer operator, then a computer operations shift supervisor till 1968. At that time I was promoted to manager of computer operations and served in that capacity for 25 years till I retired in 1993. I also served as ADP Security Officer, Crypto Control Officer, Computer and Telecommunications Security Officer(CTSO) and site rep to the local DOE office. I served in those capacities in addition to my assigned operations responsibilities. At our peak I had 41 technical employees reporting to me. OOOOOOPS!!!! There goes the wisdom thing.

started at ground floor and worked his way up I'm assuming.

if you are still stuck making min wage, multiple years in, you have made poor life decisions somewhere.

if you try to start a family (or accidentally start one) when on min wage... that is a poor life decision

So you must of worked for an evil corporation that paid decent wages?

And yes, if you believe that republicans are to blame for minimum wages, not only do you lack wisdom but also logic.

Remind me why the Walton heirs are worth $2.5 billion per year?
Last year alone, the Walton family took home roughly $2.5 billion in dividend payments.

For the industry and talent of being born to the right womb. Seems if they are worth $2.5 billion per year, the guy who delivered your pizza is worth $15/hr, notwithstanding he didn't have a pen on him.

    Gimmee a break.

didn't say people didn't use it as an excuse throughout history.... but stealing is stealing, no matter if you call it redistribution of wealth based on jealousy or not.

Ireimon doesn't care what the Waltons do or did... he's jealous he didn't win the genetic lottery like Sam Walton's kids did. So he justifies his support of theft based off of "what did they do"
