Yes, its a well rehearsed argument.
For clarity I also am a self made man, I had terrible parents, my mother was in and out of mental hospital and my father a bully.
I left home penniless aged 17 and now own a medium sized company. So I guess I'm wealthy. (Rags to riches)
But that is where we begin to differ.
Republicans want to help those in need, no one would dispute that.
But your idea of need is a hard working soul hit by a cement lorry and left crippled.
My idea is a poor soul mentally crippled by fear or anxiety, just as much in need as the former.

Especially in this modern world where the opportunities to set up a little place and farm are non existent. As the Eagles say. No new frontiers. No escape
Republicans/Democrats. A matter of degree.
