It looks like Rhode Island has become the 10th state to legalize gay marriage ... this the final state in New England to do so ...

Rhode Island becomes 10th state to legalize gay marriage

    http://usnews.nbcnews.com/_news/201...omes-10th-state-to-legalize-gay-marriage?lite

"I know that you have been waiting for this day to come," said independent Gov. Lincoln Chafee on Thursday as he signed a bill that will allow same-sex marriage.

Chafee said to the state's gay and lesbian community at a bill-signing ceremony in front of hundreds.

"I know you have loved ones that dreamed this would happen but did not live to see it.
But I am proud to say that now at long last, you are free to marry the person you love."

In a New York Times op-ed Wednesday, Chafee outlined his support for gay marriage not only on moral grounds, but also economic.

"The talented workers who are driving the new economy — young, educated and forward-looking — want to live in a place that reflects their values.

They want diversity, not simply out of a sense of justice, but because diversity makes life more fun," he wrote.
"Why would any state turn away the people who are most likely to create the economies of the 21st century?"

Such an awful lack of values!

Everyone KNOWS life is better if everyone around you is exactly the same religion, color, ethnicity, backround, tastes and language!

Not that I honestly care either way...but if you want to impress me get Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Mississippi, or Texas to do this.

Now THAT would be something to claim victory over.

It will happen when the federal government mandates it.

I wonder when the George Wallace moment will happen when the bible belt is forced to hand out marriage licenses to homosexuals.

They will whine and cry like spoiled children. Holding up their bibles and ranting on about religious freedom (to oppress others).

Congress doesn't have any authority to dictate the definition of marriage on behalf of the states, short of initiating a Constitutional Amendment.

Delaware on Tuesday if the Senate follows the House and votes for the same-sex marriage bill, the governor has said he'll sign it into law on that day.

Beyond that, probably Illinois (House vote pending, already passed state Senate), but they are still a few votes shy. The House leader is hoping for a vote this month. Also due to vote next month is Minnesota, where the same sex marriage bill has passed both the Senate and House committees and awaits a full vote in both chambers, where the DFL control majorities.

When the SCOTUS rules that both DOMA and Prop 8 In California are unconstitutional, then all other state amendments banning gay marriage will also be unconstitutional. Thus allowing homosexuals to marry across the country.

I think the chances of SCOTUS knocking down Prop 8 are slim-to-none. Kennedy showed no signs of any
willingness in the hearings to hold homosexuals as a suspect class.

DOMA on the other hand looks likely to be struck down on a states rights basis, meaning federal benefits for same-sex couples married where legal. But states rights means upholding Prop 8.

Unlikely. There did not appear to be any appetite among the justices for such a broad ruling. I look for them to kill DOMA's Section 3 and uphold Prop 8, vacating the lower court rulings on the latter. If they do kill Prop 8, it will be on the technicality of the proponents lacking standing to appeal, and they'll limit the effect to California alone. But I think it's more likely Prop 8 will survive.

obviously you have me confused with someone else. I'm against segregation and creating little silos for people. I'm against bigger govt and intervention in all facets of our lives including what we do in our bedrooms.

If you're looking for a bogeyman I suggest you look toward the Democrat party to find them.

    Gay rights good.
    Gun rights bad.

And you think there's a shortage in the Democrat party?

    - - - Updated - - -

Liberals like Montoya want government to control everything. But you have to take into consideration Montoya thinks we need high speed rail, and cost isn't a consideration.
