    Of course, Putin doesn't live inside every Russian, just as Stalin didn't live inside every Soviet citizen. Russia will always have its Pasternaks and Solzhenitsyns.



    Even though the Soviets defamed and harassed Boris Pasternak, I've always felt that his Nobel Prize kept him alive and out of prison. I expect and hope that it will be the same with Ms. Alexievich.

    actually by 'Chernobyl' i meant all the areas that could be affected, Russia and Belorus included, Ukraine too; still no increase in cancer disease whatsoever, as opposed to the US or UK where nearly everyone has died of cancer since then.

    So, wanna say they have found a worthy Ukrainian writer after all? Anti-Putin, anti-Russian, Ukrainian... partly though... Good choice for the Nobel committee, isn't it?..

    Actually, I know only one her book, The Unwomanly Face of War. This is strong thing.

    me too, just dont see how Putin PR machine is gonna handle her ...i have seen her interview today , she is very very straight in her opinions about Crimean occupation , war - hysteria in Muscovy, Putin´s 86 %, Belorusian independence, EU, etc....

    It also helps to share the ideological viewpoint of the Nobel committee, but you're right - the Nobel prize in many fields, most notably Peace and Literature, is highly politicized.

    To answer your question, I think only 2 or 3 of her books have been translated into English.

    the thing is, neither air or water or food was contaminated there. Chernobyl disaster affected only those who had to go inside the nukeplant to prevent contamination of nearby area; they are the only victims.

    Well, there are two ways they can handle her:

    1) They can ignore her the same way newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst ignored Orson Welles and his masterpiece Citizen Kane

    or

    2) They can defame her the same way the Soviets and Pravda defamed Boris Pasternak for writing Doctor Zhivago and winning the Nobel Prize for Literature (as you may recall, Pasternak was forced to refuse the prize).

    I think they'll ignore her. The last thing they want to do is draw more attention to her.

    i´d say reflex complicity of our world, actually Svetlana Alexandrovna Alexievich (Belarusian: Святлана Аляксандраўна Алексіевіч is more an European writer then a Belarusian one, thats way she is so popular in Europe , specially in Scandinavia

    Let's not forget Obama won the Noble peace prize...for what? Also Nuland who destroyed Ukraine, and whose husband is the neo con Robert Kagan, nominated Poroshenko for the peace prize...yet he's committing genocide on the people of Novorussia.

    The Nobel prize committee has a special love for sociopaths it seems. Frankly I wouldn't consider it an honor...but the money I guess is good.

    Hmmm! I have no doubt she's making a fortune from someone and the prize was the icing on the cake. She could be getting money to spread lies from Poroshenko the propaganda king.... after all he did make seven million more this year than last year...

    Or it could be from someone like Khodorovsky. He pays well I heard....and then again we have the CIA and George Soros...

    For example, The terrorist Obama - Nobel Peace Prize. The terrorist Arafat - the Nobel Peace Prize. The terrorist Mandela - Nobel Peace Prize.

    I wonder who of the enthusiastic admirers of this writer in this forum reading her novels?...However this is a rhetorical question.... If you have not read her novels is why you are happy? You rejoice that now Prize for Literature is awarded depending on your attitude towards Russia and Putin?
    Surprisingly, the degradation of consciousness in Western society is much stronger than I expected.

    Not true. Much more often Nobel prize is given to the people who deserve it. Couple of the samples you brought here is just an exclusion. By the way, Nelson Mandela is not a terrorist.

    Well, at least Belarus = Lukashenka decided to make the best of the bad play and honor her. Whether it's only for show or really helps her to stand for her ideas in daily live, I don't know.

    More astonishing: The two news on the theme were not only published in the english and german version of BELTA but even in the belarusian and russian one. And also the state paper "Belarus sewodnija" reported:

    the thing is that she is today way more dangerous for Putin, her yesterday´s quote of the day was: " I dont like ruSSin world of Beriya , Stalin, Shaygu and Putin" + she is openly against Muscovite occupation of Crimea and Donbass . just thing in Sweden side by side with King of Sweden the same words ...

    in her interview she said about her favorite book , she said that Muscovites like Germans in 30th , first when antisemitism started the Germans specially visited Jewish doctors , teachers etc with other words act against State will . but after couple of years Goebbels (Kiselev propaganda in Muscovy today) they became the monsters
