[/QUOTE] Margot what are you talking about????? What is the rumour and gossip? They beheaded the maid who was abused by her employer.
Omar Sharif and my mom used to play tournament bridge at the Master level. He's a perfectly charming man and a wicked bridge player. And while he is a Muslim he is also perfectly comfortable around Christian and Jewish beliefs. Idiots like Robin Quinn make far too much of Wahhabism and barely understand it.. They think its one thing and concrete. They couldn't be more wrong..

I'll ask him next time I see him and find out who you are, who this mysterious Margot is Does she know Hussein Fahmy too? I see him a lot also.
there you go again expecting all muslims to be clones of each other - NOW you think a modern muslim girl has no choice but to imitate Hande Yener!
Muslim girls have so many choice! Here's another one: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-2kOI5z-cGs&feature=fvsr"]MERCAN - SANA DEGIL KARDESINE - YouTube[/ame] Though her boobs are little bit small.
And here's Atiye, If you are more into middle eastern sound. I wish all Muslim girls were like Atiye! [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w60x7LOCEeg"]Muamma (Atiye) - YouTube[/ame]
lols it is interesting looking at these videos - we were in Turkey during eurovision the year hadise came second, and I remember a demure little hijab wearing girl was singing her praises - according to some people here, that girl should rightly have thought hadise should have been stoned ... or whatever can't imagine why these singers are popular in the Muslim world if you guys are all religious fanatics!
The Turk, a little explanation is called for. In another thread I was asserting that the general drift among Muslims where I am was towards fundamentalism despite some movement in the opposite direction. I was asked where my perception came from and gave the example of increasing use of hijab. Cassandrabandra and others ridiculed the idea that this was an indication of growing fundamentalism and claimed that the hijab was a fashion garment among Muslims and not a religious one, supporting this notion by the common example of the combination of tight jeans and hijab. I drew attention to the fact that she had just acceded that you were more up to date with fashion and what you considered most typified the utmost in fashion in Turkey was not exactly hijab! Perhaps Im wrong though and it was only coincidence that your videos are devoid of the latest must have? in muslim countries it most certainly IS a fashion statement, and if it weren't - why would you account for the vast array of scarves targetted at muslim women - and the pricing of many of the more attractive ones? this "fashion consciousness" among hijab wearers has certainly influenced women in the west who wear hijab as well! source So what do say is the increase in hijab use an indication of fundamentalism or is this notion laughable and the hijab just the latest fashion?
Really? I think a more accurate statement would be that according to some people in here the increase in girls wearing hijab, even at such a venue and by a Hadise fan, is a sign of the influence of growing fundamentalism. That wouldn't indicate everyone is a religious fanatic merely that the number of fanatics is likely to be growing in tact with increasing religiousity. A little more sober thought would not go amiss.
Ehem - I may be wrong, but I very much doubt whether people - all over the middle east , are any more /or less - religious than say , fifty years ago. - If so , then , why hasnt some academic groups carried out a thorough study into such a phenomenal change and published a string of reports ? Outward dress displays can hardly be seen as a valid indication as girls + young men , has become more religious can it ? I'm no expert but it strikes me that it could be just a fashion display of identity, distinct from the Western norm.- if so, then what;s wrong with that ? I dont doubt that pretty girls in colourful Hijabs are just as attractive to young men as they've always been, gawb blessem. + Long may it be so.
sure united states of arabia is strict, but loose on the money. channelize it for the benefit of the ummah, instead of handing it to the far west. now that would be a start, of wwIII.

Wahhabism is only one branch of the Salafi sect, which has already gained ~25% of votes in the Egyptian elections. Also, many wahhabi figures, such as Bin Laden is revered by most Muslims in the world, and is now immortalized after his death. Salafism is still very strong, and is rapidly gaining ground.
[/QUOTE] No real Muslim will boycott Hajj. It is a pillar of Islam regardless of which sect you belong to. Iranians (who are Shiites) constitute a large %age of foreign pilgrims, and we know how bad Saudi-Iranian relations are.

Out of interest, how strong was the influence of Salafism and other sects of that ilk, prior to the onset of Western interference in the Middle East and other predominantly Muslim countries?
