1) Significantly scaling back the NSA is a nonstarter for political reasons. No president is going to risk being called weak on the war on terrorism by curtailing NSA spying.

2) NSA spying is an example of expansion of executive power which all Presidents want regardless of party because since this country began there has always been tension between the executive branch and the legislative branch.

I don't know what so special about Christie except that he's a bully, but I see that you posted this before his many scandals hit the fan.

Condi played an even more significant role in improving the performance of our intelligence agencies so that they could defend the USA and allies and eventually track down Bin Laden.

Condi is also asking the tough questions about Pakistan that need to be asked if we are protect ourselves from future 9/11s, London 7/7s and other terrorist attacks.. Anyone not asking those tough questions is just the person who would allow another 9/11 to happen.

It's not easy to win the US Presidency. The competition for the job is like no other.

There's always some doubt as to who is going to win any fair election and that has to be the case especially in a US presidential election.

I would point out however that since the polls show Hillary as a very clear favourite for the Democratic nomination - like for example in the January 2014, Washington Post - ABC News Poll

• 73% for Hillary Clinton,
• 12% for Joe Biden

which is a stunning lead by any measure that more or less any Republican candidate for President in the general election will have a better chance of beating Hillary for the presidency than Joe will have in beating Hillary for the Democratic nomination.

I certainly do hope Hillary does run. I think Hillary would be a great and worthy president who has brought great credit to the USA over her many long years of service to Americans.

Also Hillary's husband Bill would be a great first gentleman who would bring more experience of presidential decision making than any other spouse of the president in history. The Clintons would be a great team for White House - there's no doubt about that.

I can only really think of two people right now that I'd rather see elected president in 2016 than Hillary because those are the only two persons in history who in my opinion deserve to beat Hillary in terms of offering slightly more to the people for the job of president and commander in chief.

Now if we get to the campaign where it is those two inspirational exceptional women are running for president then we can do compares and contrasts but the main point now is to encourage them both to run and look forward to what promises to be a great and historic campaign, not just for America, but for the world.

It's also worth pointing out that Condi was called in very early to prepare George W Bush on foreign policy for his first presidential campaign. Condi had previously worked for his father when he was president and the father recommended Condi to his son.

It was Condi who recommended Don Rumsfeld for the Defense Secretary job as she confirmed in a video I already posted in post #124.

But Rumseld did think of himself as superior to Condi and he didn't always attend meetings with Condi which she wanted him to.

Both Bush and Rumseld did not order the generals to take more heed of Condi's advice (they would have had to because as NSA in the Bush 1st term Condi had no constitutional authority to order the generals to do anything) but if the generals had been told to listen to Condi more the Iraq situation may have worked out a lot better.

In my view Condi towers above all contemporary leaders like a colossus.



But even a great and historic world leader such as Condoleezza Rice needs assistance from others less able than herself to do the collective hard work of regime-change to a high standard.

Condi has set before us an agenda of hard-to-achieve but very worthwhile political policy objectives which serve all of mankind and the American people in particular. So I suggest that we should help her all we can.
