Let's not and say we did....Corned beef reminds me of my granpa's butcher shop in SF. I used to help out when I was a pimply-faced pre-teen The corned beefs were in a brine vat inside the walk-in refrigerator. I had to fish them out with a meat hook, put them in a pan and take them to the display case. Nowadays I think they are all injected with brine. We ate corned beef with hot mustard, cabbage and boiled potatoes.

Maybe it's just me but wouldn't St. Patty's day be a little more festive if
all that green was bordered with a bit of pink.I mean, too mush green can make
even pea soup give one sea sickness.I get the green. But all things in moderation.
Look what too much land did to Ted Turner { Biggest landowner in this country }.
Even Jane Fonda had to run for the hills.Maybe they just needed to elope.
    To abscond with Teddy boy.

Right from the start you learnt wrong.I suppose you also had one them little
Leprechaun pots to keep the day's till in.

But that wouldn't be Irish me lad.

    Irish Boiled Dinner (Corned Beef)

"Remove the lid from the brisket. Remove onions, and cut into wedges. Return them to the pot. Add carrots to the pot, then place the cabbage over the roast. Place the potatoes on top of the cabbage. Place the lid back on the pot, and cook for another 30 minutes, until potatoes are tender. The potatoes should be immersed in the water by now, but if not, keep the lid on so they can steam."

    http://allrecipes.com/recipe/irish-boiled-dinner-corned-beef/

    Try it, it's DELISH.

No pot but my granddaughter made a 'Leprechaun Trap' in Kindergarten. If we catch one of the little buggers, I'll hold him hostage for for his pot of GOLD. :clapping:

Actually, I think it was that traditional Irish dinner I cooked that made me puny yesterday. Nobody else complained, but next year we'll do pizza and call it Irish.

OMG, on the local news... there was a wreck on the freeway. A cop told one car to turn around (for some reason) and other cars followed suit. The result looked like the def of chaos with cars heading in all directions and nobody could move. Hilarious... bet it makes natl news.

    ROFLMAO

For what it's worth ... I'm watching a new release movie - Hours - starring
    Paul Walker {?}.
I was interested in this movie based entirely on the setting.
A Newlywed couple enter a New Orleans hospital on the eve of
hurricane Katrina striking.Walker's wife is showing pains and is pregnant.
However she is weeks early.Katrina hits as the wife delievers the baby prematurely
and she losses her life.Walker is confronted with the loss of his best friend and
soulmate wife.He seems in shock. The imminent Hurricane strikes the hospital
and power is left to the generators. Walker seems intent on watching over his
new born baby. It's in a computer controlled incubator.
The movie is not what I expected. The action mostly takes place inside the
evacuated hospital with Walker, finding a hand crack unit to keep the incubator
    going.He reminisces.
He remembers the time his fiancé got really mad at him for showing him a
little box.A box that had an engagement ring.
Turns out she was mad/really upset because it was she,who wanted to
    propose to him.
I'm not really sure if I'm familiar with this scenario.
Surely it must have happened in some marriages.Forget those Hollywood
Lil' Abner back woods stories of shotgun weddings.
is anyone familiar with this. That the gal proposes to the gent.
I mean,I gotta tell ya,I have my doubts. But my little brother sure
might have let his wife propose to him.

This is where a motorcycle comes in extremely handy. I remember about 2 years ago I was
heading home on me Big Bike and there was a traffic jam { cars stopped } right in
front of a newly formed accident. The accident was right in front of the local
racetrack { 1/8th mile drag strip }.It seems to happen a few times a year.I was just
20 minutes from home.I didn't feel like stopping and waiting for maybe an hour for
stopped cars to move freely again. The State Troopers were already out and making sure
    that no cars moved.This was on a 2 lane highway.The opposite side of traffic { lane }
was open because the cops stopped all traffic from that side and there was no
approaching traffic.I decided to make a U-turn and use that open lane to go back and
use another route,One of the Troopers saw me leave stopped traffic and make a U-turn
to use the open lane.Man oh boy did he ever yell at me.Like I just raped his mom,
er something.Yelled out at the top of lungs to STOP.STOP right now.Er something.
All I did was turn around {U-turn } and use the opposite lane to return back to town.
Cops { even Troopers act really nutty when they feel they are in charge iof a situation }.
I gotta tell ya.if there's ever a real emergency and some Trooper tries to tell me I can't
move to freedom,I'm gonna So Smash that Mutha fucher square in the kisser he's
gonna wish his mommy never had him.

I grew up with little boiled potatoes some nights.I never liked as much as
a good baked potato. My Mom was a really good cook. She taught a course
in Home Economics. She also cooked dishes I never liked.Like her Ham casserole
with pineapple slices. It was made with ham and spam.
Or what is known as Cottage Ham { plastic wrapped ham that is boiled }.
The only potatoes I eat are nice little red potatoes that I stick a fork in
on both sides and precook in the microwave for about a minute on both sides
and then finish off on the grill. The outside is slightly crisp and the inside is nice
and slightly puffy soft.It takes years to perfect cooking technique.

Not me. I partied a bit last week and didn't feel like it on St. Patrick's Day.

I have another question though. How many here have some Irish ancestry? I did the DNA on Ancestry.com and discovered I'm 22% Irish. :)Goes WAY back there. Anyone interested in genealogy? It's really time-consuming, but fun.

    Morning, barflies.

Good stories, foolie. To hate chitchat, you sure are good at it. ;)

Hiya JP5. Sounds interesting. Since my heritage is Scot & Brit, I'm sure there's prob some Irish in there too. My dad's side of the family has been traced to a Lord in the Church of England who came to America in 1650. They were able to DNA him to us. Fascinating stuff... most from that side of the family are webfoots from Louisiana. My branch escaped to Texas around the turn of the century.

Nobody knows much about my mom's side.

Up and at em yall. Time to hit it.

I dunno.Them fedora are bad Man hats. I know they { who they } had different versions
back in the 40's and 50's.Like the kind wore in Harlem when jazz and blues was
    becoming of age. I think Thurgood Marshall { 1st Black Supreme Court Justice }
Liked his hats.Occassionally a fedora.Of course Thurgood also liked his Whisky.
Marshall,a true champion of civil rights.
In contrast we see Hannibal Lector wearing a fedora on some remote Caribbean
isle in the final scene of - Silence of the Lambs -. he is back to old self.Cocky
as can be and awaiting his next turn at man as meal. The way he sashays with his
fedora speaks volumns.I don't want to ever be viewed in that light.
I just as soon wear a Mitre { Bishop's rectangular head garb } and being seen
heading to the local Pub playing a flute.

Good morning from the left-coast...got up early today. No Irish here either. My Dad's side are from the Island of IZ, Mali off Zadar in the Adriatic Sea. Mom's side is sketchy, part Native American and who knows what else. That's the story anyway...Personally I think we're all Alien hybrids.
