Microwave them for a total of about 12 mins for a big one. The wax melts off and they are easy to peel and cut up.

Take the time to learn how to choose clothes for women off the rack. When they know you know what looks good they will appreciate your opinion.

Shuttle clothes to her in the dressing room, and render a quick thumbs up or down. Will get you both out of the store in half the time.

They are cheap and effective. You can heat the wax off them in the oven, but the microwave is faster and uses less energy/money.

Thats a good idea. My husband helps me pick out clothes sometimes. Of course these days it is just to look presentable in public because around here with all the work I dress for comfort. But still try to look ok.

That's just incredible to me. My dad was a heckuva marksman, too, but unfortunately I didn't inherit his natural ability with a firearm.

Smart woman. My wife carries, too (she's got a .357/.38 S&W and a concealed weapons permit). The only time I carry is when I'm out in the woods. We've got black bears roaming around and you never know when you might bump into a momma with her youngsters, so you can never be too careful.

Mama was raised in the city and always wanted have a place in the woods. So she bought 100 acre's in Stone Mountain when she was 23 which was mostly dirt roads back then . She took to the gun for safety a widow living in the middle of the woods with kids was new to her. We had trespassers now and then. Some just sneaking in to fish others to do harm.

I don't buy or use Microwave food except one style frozen
    Pizza.Which I only have about 5 times a year.
Microwave are great for heating up stuff like a cup of coffee
that is no longer hot. They are a must for Potatoes.I use small
red potatoes { usually medium size }.You stick a fork in the potato
on each side and then microwave for around a minute on each side
then put on the grill alongside a nice steak or Lambchop.
Baking a potato or potatoes in the oven is very time consuming and
cost too much { electricity }.

I'm cooking a huge pot of chili now. I'll freeze some of it in glass Pyrex containers [ tomatoes bring out toxins in plastic ] and it will feed us a couple times a week for a month or so. It has all the ingredients for a meal in it.

    Any more ideas for food?

Sometimes, but not very often, now that I live alone. I get what I can. I have little to spend, so I must choose wisely, or waste the little I have. I have to go to the store today. I roasted a ham that was reasonably priced and ate half of it. I froze the rest. It was a small flat ham, not rolled up. It was smoked.

I will get a bag of Great Northern or Navy beans and some carrots for soup and use that ham in it. I may make some bread. Homemade bread is so good when it is fresh and eaten with soup.

I did that with a small beef roast, though I did not freeze half. It was small enough to last several days and very good. I cooked it in the crock pot for more than twelve hours and it fell apart. I put potatoes, carrots, onion and celery in it, along with some spices and bullion and a little water. The beef melted in my mouth, even though it was a cheap cut. I made sure it was marbled, so it wasn't too tough.

Planning out what I want helps me to eat what I'll like. I am not a very good cook, but I eat well with what I know.

I didn't know that about tomatoes and toxins in plastic. Thank you.

Well so far my potatoes are ok cooking the old fashioned way. But I do understand most people don't have time to cook for hours. Thats why I cook many meals at once too.

Sounds like you eat pretty good to me. We use to buy meat and can it in qt jars, but it is too expensive now plus meat is not what it use to be. Last we canned was 65lb.s of chuck roast on sale. That is A LOT OF CUTTING UP and canning. But it lasted over a year and it was very tender too. Don't can chicken anymore either. Use to can meat for us and bones for dogs bones were chewy crumbles after canning.

Impressive - that's quite a leap of faith for a young woman to move out of the city and into the country. 100 acres is a lot of land, too.

Back to the chickens, where was your pen sited? The best spot I have is over 100 yards from our house and pretty much out in the open where it's going to get sun most of the day. I'm guessing I would have to throw some sort of cover over the top during the Summer so I don't prematurely bake all the birds.

We keep out chickens close to our house, about 15 yd.s away. Maybe this is why nothing bothers them, but also caring fro them doesn't mean walking across the field to clean water and food containers. Or clean out the pens. Caring for biddies is easier.

Sometimes it rains for weeks or it is cold or too hot. So we have found the closer the better. Especially once you get older. It helps too if a chicken needs caring for if injured. And we don't want to walk far to collect eggs daily.
We have never had a problem with insects or flies either.

Also important is they need shade in the summer, so they don't need too much sun. They will take sand bathes in the sun and chickens can take cold better than heat.IMO. We like dual type birds like Dominique or Barred Rock. Good meat birds and great egg layers.
Fast growing chickens are pitiful their legs don't ever mature and they are unhealthy. I call them bio birds.

They are good for quickly heating anything. They are very good when you need to peel and process mirlitons, rutabagas, turnips etc.

Oh, and for frozen vegetables that can be cooked in their freezer bag.

I do a lot of that, too. I'll cook a big vat of soup on the weekend so I don't have to cook so much during the week (my wife and I share the kitchen chores - I cook and she cleans).

Other than chili and chicken noodle soup I like cooking a big batch of Gumbo and freezing that. The great thing about Gumbo is that you can use any kind of meat - chicken, beef, shrimp, pork. In fact, I cooked a pot of chicken and okra gumbo last night that we'll be eating during the week.

(Thank God I don't live in New Orleans or I'd weigh a thousand pounds.)

BTW, this is the best Cajun seasoning you can buy - it's made by the New Orleans School of Cooking:

Besides Tabasco sauce it's the only thing you need to spice up a pot of Gumbo. It's awesome on steak, too. :hungry:

I'll try some of Joes Stuff next shopping day. Thanks. We also like Everglades for certain seasoning.
We usually use Louisiana Hot Sauce because it is meatier than the watered down others. Use to like Texas Pete but it got watery. Need to check out the Tabasco again too haven't tried it in years. I noticed it is wrapped like the Lea & Perrins steak sauce now which is only one I like, hubby likes A-1. We only eat steak once a month.

Gumbo is great, and you can brown the flour in the oven w/o oil. The rest is a breeze.
