Me too, g/f. Let's enjoy some 60's and 70's before we get down into the 30's again! One thing's for sure... as dry as it's been around here, first night below 50 and all the leaves will prob fall off the trees. Not much chance of fall colors around here -- burnt brown seems to be the norm!

Can you believe they've been around since 1918? Truly an institution around here... best tex-mex in town, too. Still!

For sure, around here, too. The trees in the hills LOOK like they have fall colors on them, but it's the same rusty brown they turned when they were burnt to a crisp this summer. We've lost every blue spruce we had in the back yard, to the heat.

The boys and I went to one in Ft. Worth quite often when we lived there. I'm glad they've survived and apparently still thriving.

A friend of mine sent me this in an E-mail, it's painfully true of a large segment of the industry I work in! :D

Shall we have a few rugby songs to sing along with?

First up, since the Irish deserve it after their stunning win against Australia:

    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FA28F9DG-nM"]Fields of Athenry[/ame]

Next a Welsh classic or two from Max Boyce:

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y0RDadPheNQ"]Hymns and Arias and Sospan Fach[/ame]

And, of course, an uplifting and spirited version of this:

    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9tl05qZqeQU"]Flower of Scotland - Alestorm[/ame]

    Enjoy!

    Howdy.

Now that was rather enjoyable, at least for me, until Mr. Shangrila got up to remind me not to 'sing' so loudly in the morning.
So, when the English lose a game, they are offered a bottle? And that's about all I understood...oh, and its lonely on the fields of Athenry.

    Now onto OT's lovely breakfast.

    Hello, bar peeps!

I've been awfully busy the past week, hope everyone is well.

My nephew (that young fireman I spoke of) got married yesterday -- a sweet country wedding. The whole wedding party wore boots - gak!

We'd been dreading the wedding -- how awful that sounds -- but really, the hottest summer on record...an outdoor wedding in 112 temps?

Anyway, we piled into the car and headed down to Comfort. Lo and behold! About 20 mins out of town, we began seeing these odd spots on the windshield...whatever was it? Then more.
OMG, we remembered this stuff...it was rain, wonderful life-giving rain.

The rain finds its way from the stormy cloud
Down through the ground to the tiny seed
You came to me in a stormy hour
Your love found a home deep inside of me...

The rain is working very hard
It’s got to water every little seed
    It’s beautifully ordinary
Making life seem very good indeed
    Beautifully ordinary
Life with you is very good indeed

We had another 80 miles of driving into the Hill Country to this hidden wedding barn
I called the Mother of the Groom to see if they were getting rain. Sprinkles came the answer in a voice filled with anxiety...but they could move the wedding into the reception area if necessary.

But within 30 miles of the wedding site, the rain subsided, leaving only cloud cover, the sweet smell of Mother Nature....and temps in the low 80s!

We arrived at the site, followed the sound of soft guitars through the cow patties and goat beads (I was not wearing cowboy boots) to a lovely opening under magnificent old oaks.

    The wedding was perfect.
The bride hoisted her voluminous shirts to retrieve her vows from her boot.
The groom made a show of having lost the ring -- *grin*.

    And then, there it was.
As he slipped the ring onto her finger and the preacher said you may now kiss your bride, first one then a second hawk appeared. They swooped and dove in circles above the newlyweds for several minutes before disappearing over the trees. Such omens for this new couple, the rains of relief and rebirth; the hawks, the great messengers of the sky to announce their union.

We came home to find our lawn drenched! D*mn*d if there wasn't a full inch of rain water down in one of the buckets

And if all that wasn't enough...my bro had traveled to the wedding via Fredricksburg. They stopped in a German bakery and brought serious fudge for all! Brothers are our friends!
