Tilipia are farm-raised, but they're a different species then bream.

Ugh, hate to be the party-pooper here, but I HATE salmon (except in croquettes). My fav seafoods are shrimp, clams & crab... snapper, rainbow trout & talapia. However, I knew this ole guy named Jimmy who loved 2 things, fishing & beer. He'd get drunk & fry up a big ole pot of sand bass he caught that day and that was some good eatin!

I had blackened tilapia for dinner one night on the coast... and my coastal-dwelling sil snarled her lip at me. [IMG]

There's this neat-lookin' geodesic dome just south of where we live called Jerry's Catfish House.

And they serve AYCE catfish (whole or fillets), along with french fries, hushpuppies, cole slaw, and onion slices. Add in some fried dill pickle chips, and a few glasses of sweet tea, and you've got yourself a great meal!

They're closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, and only open from 5pm till 10pm the rest of the week. They do a land-office business, and if you do't get there early, you may wait up to and hour and a half for a table.

My only complaint about the place, is that one Wednesday a month they'll serve AYCE chitlins - which look like boiled tennis shoe strings to me, and smell like a laundry basket full of jock straps! :omfg:

I am going to grab the Vodka! Scuse me Falena. *nudge*
OK, I brought me own shot glasses and some M.D. and beer for everyone else who would rather not *ahem* have any. OR....I have a great Bloody Mary recipe???? Anyone? OMG, I can't tell you how bad I need one right now!:xd: I missed you all so much!!!! I know I rarely hang out in the Bar, (cause I am a closet drunk:twisted:) but I know where to find my buddies, y'all ALL are always here at one time or another. So come here

Almost time for a new bar.

How about something topical next time - a Rugby World Cup bar, since that most important of international events is going on at the moment? Just a thought for something a bit different, to take eveyone's minds off the weather issues over there in the 'Wild West' a bit!

G'mornin, y'all!! Nice & cool 67 degrees this morning! Still no rain to speak of... but the next few days we have a slim chance of thunderstorms. YAY!!!

Good idea, Cenydd -- but let's just call it a Sports Bar and you can root for whatever turns ya on. Football season just started here, ya know? So we need a place we can all gather around the big screen and cheer on our fav teams!

    GO COWBOYS!!!!

I made salmon croquettes for supper last night. I like salmon cooked on the grill, but it doesn't take much. It's very rich cooked that way. With my allergies, I'm limited on what seafood I can eat. Then, there's a staple that I grew up eating...catfish...yum. I love a mess of catfish, hushpuppies, cole slaw, pickle relish....dang, I'm hungry now.

Ya know, they don't eat ocean catfish. Not sure why, but the fisherman threw 'em back and said they're no good. GS caught a bunch of those and said they were hell to get off the hook -- I bet!

Salmon's just too strong (fishy) for me. Some guy heated up a hunk of salmon in the microwave at lunch yesterday and I had to leave the room... ugh.. stinky stuff! *holds nose*

That's curious, alright. Is it the salt water that might make them no good, I wonder? West Texas catfish are great!

Yeah, salmon can stink up the place. I generally only use it for croquettes. When my sister lived in Alaska, she caught a 60 lb salmon and they canned it all themselves. I got to bring a few cans home with me, and it was really good for croquettes, plus they deboned them before they canned them. That's the most tedious part about making croquettes.

Nope, just regular ol' blueberry muffins.

Do they have any QT - Quick Trip convenience stores where you live? There are some where Smartie lives, and I've seen them in Oklahoma, KCMO and St. Louis, and Des Moines also.

They make this one type of muffin - white chocolate and craisins (dried cranberries) - that is to DIE for! They are soooooo good! It's the only muffin I can remember eating, where the top wasn't the best part! :)

No kiddin about the tedious part. Last time I made croquettes, the main man offered to help. He made it thru the deboning & deskinning part before he had to go sit down. Promised he'd never request salmon croquettes for dinner again. LOL, they are a lotta trouble... good, though! Do you put onions in yours? Ongoing debate at my house... I don't, but have heard I should. *shrugs*

I haven't noticed any around here, but I think I've seen them in Oklahoma. That does sound good!

I do put chopped onions in mine, but not every time I cook them. It really adds to the flavor...you ought to try sometime. LOL @ the main man. My oldest son called me a while back wanting me to tell him how to make salmon croquettes. Right after I described the deboning, he said he wasn't as hungry for them as he thought. It was like "you have to debone it???? Nevermind"....LOL I told him I'd call next time I make them and he's off work.

Guess I'll have to break down and try onions sometimes... just another step in an already 12-step process! LOL, lazy cook here. I prefer to stick something in a pot and leave it alone until it's done!
