It sound like it's just a matter of bad timing. You moved into a community, and the lockdown hit before you had a chance to establish a social network that could help you out.

Social networks are important for people who are dependant upon others for their care and feeding.

Expecting a government agency to come swooping in and save you is unrealistic, and a bit childish.

Sounds like you wanted the "system" to swoop in and save you.
What "system" if not the government? The Boy Scouts?

What do you think should happen to those that need health care? They should be turned away? That is EXACTLY what is happening to those that need a stent, or bypass, or other ABSOLUTELY necessary care. They will
DIE. Do you think that is OK?

Wash your hands and face often, and when you go out wear rubber gloves, goggles and a bandanna.
Oh, and carry a handgun. ;-)

I don't think freezing the virus works as viruses tend to go dormant in low temperatures and viruses are also kept frozen in labs involved in virology

Who is turning anybody with critical healthcare needs away?

I work in a hospital and there was a patient in the OR undergoing heart surgery on Friday. The hospital is basically closed to routine care patients, but critical medical care is still happening.

I know of a person who was told that the stent they need will have to wait till after the corona virus JAZZ ends.

I have heard that teens with bad heart valves, are being sluffed off till then too.

A gal that needs the drug Trump says CURES covid19 for her disease, was told by her insurance, that she will no longer get the drug as they need it for covid19 patients.

    Hmm, yer probably right.

I think sanitizing the packages will probably work well enough. I spritz all my stuff, and then let it sit for a few hours before I handle it.

I can't advise you or anyone else as to what you should or shouldn't do, but I will tell you what we've been doing. We have been isolated for a full three weeks now. Yes, we have gone food shopping. Our supermarket opens at 6 am for senior citizens to shop for a full hour without others in the store. I am a senior and the store had about 12 people in it max. Shopping was a breeze. We would never enter without a mask and gloves on. I used the wipes they have available at the door to wipe the cart down completely. When we got home, I left the groceries in the back of the car and took a Clorox wipe and cleaned every item in the bags before bringing them in the house. When I run into the local quick-mart just for milk or eggs, I wear the mask and gloves. I won't go anywhere public without them. I had to pick up a prescription and luckily my pharmacy at Walgreens has a drive-through window. We go outside if the weather permits and if not, we're inside watching TV or I'm playing online poker.

Do you know where the local hospital/clinics are?

Have you set up a primary care doctor yet? Call and get set up with one now so its not a first visit if you are sick.

Keep a card/list handy of your name, identifying info, emergency contacts, medical history, allergies, meds, etc. If you take medication daily ask your doc for a 3 month rx.

Is your home address clearly visible from the street/front of house?

Wash your hands, soap and water for at least 20 seconds-sing the "happy birthday" song to yourself twice-thats 20 seconds.

If you have to go out in public, do it early or late in the day when there are less people.

Empathy is not required if you did work with humans. In fact, what empathy you may have had would have been destroyed during your medical schooling and training. I'll include RN's in this also, the medical community has no room for empathy.

    But it does occasionally happen.

I intubated my colleague today, a young, healthy ER doc like me. This is what I learned...
    1. As scared as I was, I knew that I owed it to my colleague to be calm, focused, and collected. We’ve trained for this and with a little courage and vulnerability, we can meet any challenge.
    2. This virus does not discriminate with regards to age or health status. But it does have an affinity for us. Health care workers represent more than 20% of all #COVID19 cases.
    3. Use highflow, proning, and a NRB, to buy yourself some extra time. This gave our team the opportunity to set up for a safe and organized intubation.
    4. PPE like you life depends upon it because it does. Limit the number of providers in the room. The most senior physician should intubate, and use video
When it’s over, it’s ok to be human. It’s ok to show emotion for in doing so, we show that we care, we grieve, we love. In the end, our love and service to one another, may very well be the thing that gets us through this.

Don't let anyone sneeze or cough on you.
    Keep you hands sanitized.
Don't touch your face, a tough one. But sanitize hands often and touching face is less worrisome.

Carry Alcohol wipes and try to wipe gas pumps etc before pumping.
Sanitize hands immediately after touching public things.

He's only doomed if he listens to tRUMP's advice.

If he listen's to the health care community, he will be just fine.

Trump has given out good advice-the same recommendations as the CDC.

Those two posts don't make any sense. First you claim to not know how to get food, gasoline, or a doctor. Later you claim to be a young healthy ER doctor.

    There's a disconnect there somewhere.

Well we have that in common. I helped to pioneer the field of mobile CAT scans and MRI.

When I started working on CAT scanners, we could only do head scans. Body scans didn't exist yet.
