This is the first in a series of articles about a new ISO-NE report on the possibilities and challenges of the clean energy transition for New England. This article covers the report’s main themes – the challenge of balancing the grid, the future variability of power demand, and the adequacy of future power supply. Next, we will deal with decarbonizing the grid and the continued need for dispatchable power. It will also look at the impact of a grid powered by offshore wind on New England’s maritime environment. We also plan to assess the economics of the clean energy transition and what its proponents fail to tell the public about the cost and lifestyle impacts.

Sorry, but that's an uninformed post.

Your source was a blog called “Energy Musings”.

    https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S2214629623004280

With these over-the-top claims emerging from highly influential Republican Party leaders
, perhaps it should be no surprise that, even as the need to decarbonize energy becomes increasingly urgent, and even as such efforts begin to take hold, opposition to renewable resources—often based on inaccurate or conspiracy-laden rhetoric—has grown increasingly vocal and politically impactful

The post reports on the ISO-NE findings. You are free to challenge those, but you really can't pretend they don't exist.

Florida is getting it right by relying on natural gas available 24/7 and which has self contained energy storage - no batteries required.

I’m all for using Natural gas as a backup. Iowa gets 70% of its power from wind, with Natural Gas as a backup. They use a wind-first philosophy, and Florida is probably doing the same thing.

Florida is not relying on wind.

That would be the “I don’t care” approach. That would be the “F*** future generations” approach.

Renewables with backup power is a much better solution. Much more affordable than Nuclear, the most expensive power on the planet, and heavily subsidized. Not to mention the radioactive wastes that must be managed for hundreds of thousands of years, and not factored into the cost at all.

Earlier you said “an actual solution”. I’m showing a better actual solution- one which doesn’t burn up all the fossil fuel reserves of the world in 15-20 generations, and will also combat climate change.

Not false at all. Leaving high level radioactive wastes for future generations is part of “your agenda”. Leaving a world ravaged by Climate Change, with everyday extreme weather events is part of “your agenda”.

I might just 'throw this in here' for the sake of levity...

"In 2023, net generation of electricity from utility-scale generators in the United States was about 4,178 billion kilowatthours (kWh) (or about 4.18 trillion kWh)." Link: Electricity generation, capacity, and sales in the United States - U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA)

My BS degree isn't in EE specifically, but I'll suggest that adding 'renewables' to our overall power generation is certainly a very good idea! But we should incorporate these in an intelligent, coordinated way while being careful not to expect too much too soon -- and wreck our economy in the process.
