I am no real fan, of Eric Clapton's, but there are a few of his songs I like, like this one:

    Promises--

I am not going to miss "R" again-- so, for the moment, I'm jumping "Q," and hoping that someone else will want, or be able, to pick up that letter.

Does anyone remember this bit of nostalgia, from 1979?

    Romeo's Tune-- Steve Forbert

I might as well keep this little pop grouping, all of a certain time period-- "Romeo's tune" was from '79, and this one, like "Promises," dates to 1978:

Sharing the Night Together-- Dr. Hook

Sweet, especially the later rendition. Even without other accompaniment, Winwood really invests the simple piece with a compelling gravity, and a bewitching beauty. Very well done.

I didn't want to leave you all, hung up on Q, so I thought of a Squeeze song, I thought might be called "Quintessence," but then remembered, and saw, that it was "In Quintessence." Yet, under that first title, were a lot of songs, so I found a few worthwhile ones.

Quintesessence-- Mastodon. All right. An Electronic Metal, but with different influences. A bit like Faith No More.

Quintesessence-- Iday. Not bad. Actually some nice, & interesting elements, here. The appealing beginning, reminded me a bit of Steven Halpern, father of "New Age," music (which he called the "anti-frantic alternative"). Then there is a change of mood, that is pretty cool, except for a little part of the organ that made me think of the stuff they play at a baseball game, to get the crowd worked up.

Quintesessence-- Benjamin Clementine. This one is tough to describe. Original, distinctive and, I think, likable.

Quintessence, btw, means the best of the best, from the 5th Essence, (postulated by Aristotle: beyond Earth, Air, Fire, & Water-- existing above the world, but just as necessary as all the other Elements; in modern paganism, that 5th essence is called Spirit).

P.S.-- That brings us up to the letter "T," since I'd covered P, R, & S, but had skipped Q, till now.

I saw David Crosby when he was with the Byrds in 1965 at our community center where I grew up. He was of course, awesome.
    RIP

This song has been stuck in my head since one of our local radio stations played it during a tribute to David Crosby, so here it is:

    W - Wooden Ships

Sometime back, in the fall, I posted a couple of songs that I always associate with Summer, and never got around to posting this one.
    Whenever I Call You Friend

Here is a nice cover, by Melissa Manchester:

    @Turtledude
Since you seem to not be a fan of Stevie's, here is a version for you, with a man singing her part. His hair style, I'll warn you though, does look quite a bit like Stevie Nicks'-- except for the moustache.

I have a post on this song, back on page 101 (#2514).
    http://www.politicalforum.com/index...-z-with-video.599056/page-101#post-1073748368

I'd been citing it as another example-- like "Because the Night," by Patti Smith and Bruce Springsteen, which we'd then been discussing-- of a song done by members of two different bands, of which, each then did their own rendition. This song was co-written with Paul Kantner. Though I prefer the way that Jefferson Airplane renders it, I did find the best CSN version, I've heard, in this live recording:

I did laugh at the stories how the roadies used to coke her up when her nose became too damaged to snort the stuff up

I don't generally explore those types of anecdotes, so never heard this story; but I admit, you now have me curious-- how did the roadies "coke her up?"

well there is a enema preparation made by a company named fleet so the stories are that they called what SN got a "FLEETWOOD" and it involved a roadie blowing coke in a straw up her ass because her nose was so shredded it would bleed profusely if she tried snorting.

Thanks for sharing the details-- even though I'm now kind of sorry, that I'd asked.

At any rate, in reference back to my video post, that is certainly what you would have to call, being a friend.

It's one of their best songs, imo, which is why it earwormed its way into my head and took up residence between my ears all weekend.

I would have posted the video from Woodstock but unfortunately it was nothing but crowd shots and the sound quality was inferior to the video from their HOF induction performance. I can't say I'm a huge CSN/CSNY fan, but they do have some really good songs and "Wooden Ships" is certainly one of them.

This thread has been stuck at X for over a week so to get things moving again I'm taking us back to the top of the alphabet...

    A - Awaken by Yes
(Skip the Intro and begin at 1:50)

    Great performance - enjoy!

This is just to tidy up, by picking up that leftover "y."

Though I am not at all, an Elvis Presley fan, I do like, though it may be less than obvious why, this song of his-- which I hadn't realized, when I'd recently posted the Dusty SPRINGFIELD cover of it, is originally a Presley song.

You Don't Have To Say You Love Me

The way Elvis does this song-- while I know that he sings other songs, in a similar style, such as "I Can't Help Falling In Love With You"-- puts me more in mind of someone like Englebert Humperdick.

And that last song, has a enough similarity, to remind me of this classic, by the Moody Blues:

Since Talon has already given us "A," I will move on to this one, for those who are in the mood for a gracefully arcane, nihilistic lullaby.

    Broken Fingers

EDIT: I just realized this is similar to a song by Stevie Nicks--

    Come September-- Billy Vaughn orchestra

A jazzy little number-- and I mean that, in a good way. Still, while upbeat, it has a little of that dark, esoteric sound, we hear in my entry for "B."

Since this thread is partly about nostalgia, I'll throw in this theme song, with a similar vibe, which it gets from incorporating the old, Egypt-evoking, Dorian scale-- I picture a ghoulish beach party. This is a rare version of the theme song, w/ lyrics, for the Munsters:
