How are you getting along with your sugar babies? Are you keeping the proper 6 feet away and going without, or are you breaking quarantine?

    Good points.

Given the new arrivals of ventilator manufacturers here and abroad, my bet is that some ventilator company or companies somewhere made their ventilator design available.

I'd sure like to know if that's the case and who it is that would make that kind of business sacrifice for the good of the world.

If that's what happened, they deserve serious praise and publicity - at the very least.

Italian engineers have come up with a 3D printed valve married to a snorkel mask and a CPAP machine that is being tested and may work for less severe patients, freeing up a ventilator for severe patients. This jury rigged device only has elevated pressure for the inhale, but apparently delivers more oxygen than no breathing aid at all. Any port in a storm.

There are a few posts here and there, that deserve much more than a 'like'. I bow before this one, sir.

How many patients can this ventilator be split between?

NYC is now sharing ventilators between 2 patients.

Some places are sharing a vent between 3 and even 4.

As a medical person, this is absolutely blowing my mind. What's the old saying -- 'necessity is the mother of invention'. This is shear desperation, there's so many dangers with splitting a ventilator. The FDA would be having a meltdown over this concept in 'normal times'. We're actually at the point where a doctor or nurse will make the decision as to who lives and who dies.

My question is so they give stay-at-home orders, but how are they going to enforce that? From what I understand, law enforcement has been told not to enforce the law. Criminals are being let out upon us. So exactly who is going to stop Balto or whoever from going out?

The one bright lining in this crisis is that some very bright ideas are being generated....and that is good, very very good!

Thank you so much for providing this info. It goes a lot to trying to explain the shortage we are experiencing.

There is a very cynical purpose to Trump's refusal to allocate ventilators and the other supplies.

This means it won't be the deaths that are occurring will not Trump's fault, particully when some areas and states are idle while other areas are watching helpless people die!

A brilliant plan to avoid responsibility of the top leader!

My very cynical self would love to see where these respirators are going to! Allowing to have these expensive and critical machines means the top 1% of the wealthy are certainly taking over a considerable number of the supply are certainly going to these top wealthy, I would think its likely that often have a number for each family to be ready for use, some that may will be idle and never used. This suddenly increase need just goes to the top, while new supplies must be made.

Sadly, many regular people will die before the new supplies are ready. But those kinds of favors by Trump will be things that Trump will ask for returns for himself, a principle he has described at a number of occasions. What would a billionaire's mother or wife survival be worth?

These “experts” are the same people telling these governors to shut down their states. What I’m doing isn’t necessarily arrogant. You have people who are literally afraid to leave their home (not just seniors), and these governors that are overreacting costs to coast are not helping the situation. I want people to live their lives, regardless. No need for the gloves or masks, save those for hospitals.

Host a house party, backyard bbq, have friends over for breakfast, live your life. Six feet away or six miles away, you can still get this. History is going to show we overreacted to this virus. Again, it’s not arrogant to empower people.

We all take risks in life. Take your dog for a walk, you could get the virus, get gas for your car, you could get the virus, get takeout for dinner, you could get the virus.

I applaud some brave individuals in NJ who hosted a house party. Weren’t harming anyone, it was on their own property, and the police still thought they had to intervene. Because we have to “stay the fuch home.” Please, think for yourselves. Don’t let the governors or media do the thinking.

Sure, if everyone at the party stayed at the party for the next 20 days, no problem!

But if they don't, it will spread.

If you cannot understand this basic concept, then it is you who is not thinking.

Just curious - why do you think ALL the experts on pandemic control say that staying home and social distancing are critically important?

According to Dr. Fauci, I can think of 200,000 reasons to stay home.

    Amen.

As I remember from previous statements, I think his estimate is based on us doing no more isolation than we are today. So, we COULD beat his number!

I go out once a week for food. I wear and N95 mask and gloves - I gave all my N95's to the local hospital except for a couple that I'll reuse. My wife has risk factors (though strong and active), and she ordered masks when forest fire smoke was really bad around here.

I take serious measures when I return.

That may be extreme and not necessary for everyone, but if my wife gets it I honestly doubt she would survive.

Keep in mind that if they have to arrest you to get you to follow OUR orders, that even a brief incarceration could be a death sentence in a pandemic.

And yes, OUR governors work for US. They have no inherent authority, they only have the authority that WE grant them under the constitutions that form the offices they serve in and WE have granted them these emergency powers to exercise.

If I serve on a jury that passes judgment on someone caught committing the hi-jinks you are describing well, hopefully no real harm will have resulted and the extension of mercy will be in order.

I saw others wearing N95 masks in the market I went too yesterday. If you've seen Dr. Mike on Youtube, he's stated constantly that doctors and nurses on the front lines need those masks and equipments, so I'm not sure how I feel about getting any of those, even though they apparently offer the best protection if I go out(but honestly, there's not anything besides the market in walking distance.)

I've seen homemade masks, too. There are directions at various places on the internet.

I don't know which of them is most effective.

I've heard there are "sewing bees" where people are making masks for their local hospital - pretty cool!

I'd bet Home Depot and other hardware stores are sold out of construction grade masks - which probably would help.
