100% agreed... A certain amount of regulation is inevitable, as is a certain amount of corruption, but if we opened up most markets more, then increased competition usually leads to a better environment for consumers.

Regulation is sometimes better as a reaction rather than as a continual force in a market.

For example, antitrust laws make sense because they address market failures in terms of competition.

Competition itself is a transitional state for most markets, so when it inevitably dwindles, sometimes government intervention can spark new competition.

It's something that has to be done very carefully to work properly, but it is occasionally necessary.

Funny how moderation and bipartisanship are still championed even after they have put us in this extreme debt, a hole so deep we can never dig our way out of it. Maybe we need some extremists to correct what's wrong. The moderates certainly have done a good job of screwing things up.

As a saint, I imagine extremism is among your talents.

Yawn I've noticed a sad trend the hour or so Ive been on this forum, to many people saying "no your stupid", "No you" not enough intelligent discussion. Not sure how long I could withstand such tripe.

Of course your post does nothing to build a meaningful discussion. Why don't you lead by example?

Why does the US need more extremists like you?

To protect itself from extremists who don't share your silly beliefs?

I suppose all one can really say is: may the most extremist be more extreme than the other extremist.

If you are at mid twenties you should know full well that this behaviour is ubiquitous. Its in no way exclusive to this web forum so cease your perfidious attempts at being disingenous.

I have already addressed this recurrent argument in this very thread.

You missed the whole point, but that's not unexpected. We "extreme" Tea Party types want fiscal responsibility, lower taxes, controlled spending, and a balanced budget. I know...Conservatives Gone Wild! While the "moderates" will reach across the aisle to give us massive bailouts and trillion dollar deficits as far as the eye can see. Who really are the extremists?

You want the rich to be richer and the poor to be poorer.

How do you think you got rich (assuming you are - which is unlikely) in the first place?

Ha! I make $40k/yr driving a truck. That's not even middle class. What the hell makes you think Republicans are "for the rich"? If that were the case, there certainly wouldn't be enough of a voting block for them to ever get into office.

You are poor and uneducated. Yet you aspire to the "American dream". And vote Republican.

I hesitate to say you are an idiot. But there are many like you who are.

    And they puzzle me.

Good, because calling me an idiot would violate the forum rules. If wanting something better for myself makes me an idiot, then I proudly wear that title.

So you are, by your own admission, an "idiot"?

Albeit self-sainted. Which seems to have an idiot flavour to it.

Yes, I'm a uncultured, uncivilized American idiot clinging to my God and my guns. That's how most Americans are. You don't want to visit.

    Ever.

But back to the topic so tragically subverted by American visions of themselves.

Why do Americans who are not rich (that is most of them - and getting morer) vote for the party that seeks to get them to pay more to the rich?

If by some chance you actually do have degrees in History and Political Science, which I doubt from your posts, then your warped and counterfactual version of what is wrong with America and your characterisation of "Liberals" demonstrates the poverty of the American education system and the proximate cause of your present troubles.

Let us not speak of educated Americans.

We know how unlikely that is.

    Correct.

A minor misdemeanour that could be exaggerated out of all proportion.

But I doubt anyone else noticed.
