    Your contention is that this:

"The Constitution does not prohibit the citizens of each State from regulating or prohibiting abortion. Roe and Casey arrogated that authority. We now overrule those decisions and return that authority to the people and their elected representatives."

is not "in keeping with democratic principles"? That's what you're going with?

    Agreed.

    Agree to disagree.

Often it is reliance on contraception, especially condoms, that is the cause of unwanted pregnancy but many who moralise about abortion will NEVER support access to affordable long acting reversible contraception

Why is it your business if someone decides on an abortion??? It is their life.......not yours. Everyone is different......and should be able to decide these issues for themselves. (unless they are under age......)

When you say "access to", I don't suppose you just mean "available for purchase", do you? You're thinking something more like "taxpayer-funded" right?

Yep! I sure am! Get rid of unwanted pregnancy you reduce abortion to near zero. While you are funding that how about funding sexual health as well

So given the choice, you’d treat a fetus as any other American with full rights?

I'm not suggesting we let it vote or buy cigarettes (yet). What exactly did you have in mind by "full rights"? I'm saying we let it live and grow and develop, and not kill it.

Would you make any exceptions at all? Does rape matter or the life and health of the mother?

Only politicians say that, nobody who really thinks it’s murder would be ok with killing a baby because it’s dad is a rapist….unless they just want to punish women and don’t really think it’s murder…

I used to ask people if they really thought it was murder and, if so, why they didn't treat it as such. It was meant to try to get them to admit that they understood the difference . . . instead, I think I just radicalized more people, so I've stopped doing that.

Except when it comes to sanctuary cities for illegals? Then even local governments gets to decide according to the Democrats.

BTW. Have a little confidence in your Blue State Governments. You don't think they will do the right thing?

If you are going to grant exceptions, then why not leave it up to the patient and her doctor?

You don’t have a right to see someone deported lol
My state already is. I’m not a Republican, I care about other people even if they aren’t me or even in my state. Hard to comprehend I’m sure.

Because I don't want those few narrow exceptions to balloon into "it's a bad time for me right now" or "I don't want stretch marks" or "but I was supposed to go on a cruise in six months", etc.

Well, in any event--From what I have been seeing and reading since I last posted:
Most People seem to be 100% convinced that the "draft opinion" is Accurate.
And, people all over the country are freaking out.
Some states, have "trigger laws" that will immediately outlaw abortion as soon as Roe is reversed.
    Gonna be a real clusterfork.
Suicides, Coat-Hangers, Death from Sepsis, Etc...
Hard to imagine that in the 21st Century in the USA, that the clock could be turned back on almost 50 years of precedent.
The BLAME goes squarely on 2016 Democratic Primary Voters (in places like MI, WI, and PA) who (instead of going all-in for Hillary) "sat it" or voted for Jill Stein in November to "make a statement" (b/c the Big Bad DNC "rigged it" for Hillary).
Everybody saw this coming if Ginsburg died.
Roberts lost control of the Court when Barrett came on.
So: To all of those Democratic Primary Voters in MI, WI, and PA (who voted for Bernie in the Primary But DIDN'T Vote for Hillary in the Fall):
I Hope you are happy with the decision that you made on Election Day 2016.
    This is completely on You.
A Bunch of 2016 Sanders Primary Voters (who failed to vote for Hillary in November) Directly CAUSED This.
Once again, thanks to Bernie's Primary Voters, Roe is being overturned.
I hope they are very happy with their choice.

So you wouldn’t support a National ban?

And you think that those are the majority, or even a significant portion of abortions? I guess if I lived in that fantasy world, maybe I'd agree with you.

It'd depend on what the options are. Given the choice between the status quo today (something on the order of half a million abortions / year maybe) and a flat national ban, I'd vote for the latter. If there were a few more nuanced options, I'd select the one that most closely aligned with the position I outlined previously (general prohibition with a few narrow exceptions).

I think the vast majority of abortions are not for rape, incest, nor a serious risk to the life of the mother. If you have information that says I'm wrong about that, I'd be happy to review it.
