There's quite a bit of evidence that hormonal contraceptives increase the risk of breast cancer.

The warnings and side effects are included in the FDA required literature included with the product.

For instance, loestrin, a hormonal contraceptive. These are the warnings included on the product literature.

The warning doesn't sound very conclusive:

Which is why the physician also consults their PDR.

I renewed my prescription yesterday and I see nothing of the sort on my pack, or in the paper I receive with it. Maybe American contraceptives increase the risk of breast cancer, but the ones here sure don't.

The FDA doesn't have jurisdiction in Australia.

Someone must have. There are no warnings on my pill packet for a reason. There is obviously no evidence the pill causes cancer.

Regardless, I will ask my doctor the next time I see him. I trust him to tell me the truth, and if he says I have nothing to worry about, then that is that.

There's plenty of studies linking hormonal contraceptives to breast cancer.

And there are studies that dispute that link, or can't prove a connection.

Disputing empirical evidence doesn't mean that the evidence is disproven. According to the link which I provided from the NEJM there is a proven relationship between hormonal contraceptives and breast cancer.

I am open to a link between breast cancer and hormonal contraceptives than I am to a link between breast cancer and abortion.

Do you believe that the government never lies, or that drug companies always tell the truth? You do realize how much money is made off of birth control pills? How many "safe" products of yesterday are todays horror stories. While I am not trying to side one way or the other, why is it that those who want the pill are so quick to believe big pharma and the government.

I have no idea one way or another wether the pill is safe, wether or not they increase cancer risks, they sure do mess with a woman' chemistry. I personally know women who were removed from the pills, and other steroidal birth control due to major bouts of depression and anxiety. They may not cause cancer, but the mental health issues surrounding them are scary.

Drug companies have to tell the truth or they risk being sued and losing millions of dollars.

The drug companies have knowingly and willingly supplied drugs that are not effective, or dangerous before, made their billions, paid off the dead and dying with millions and gone on. The mental health of women is at risk with these steroidal contraceptives, if you have not experienced these side affects yet, keep using them, it will catch up with you.

Millions of women use the contraceptive pill all over the world with no ill effects.

It isn't suitable for all women, however, which is why it should only ever be available by prescription.

Women should be given all the correct and current information regarding the possible side effects and be allowed to make up their own minds.

I have heard that it is not advised to take it after the age of 35, for some reason...

And this is true for any medication, for anybody.
Why people have a problem with this concept is a mystery.
