America should lead not follow and succumbing to the mass hysteria of leftist countries is not what we should do. Leftists love a panicked populace because it lets government seize power.

Now, if they could only inoculate against the blight of hyper-ideology with its signature symptoms of debilitated judgment, mental impairment, and acute paranoia.

From your statistics that mean the swine flu has a death rate of .02% in the US. The Coronavirus has a death rate of 3% of reported cases. But given that so many cases are unreported, the real death rate might be anywhere between .3% and 1%. The common flu has a death rate of .1%. Even if the Coronavirus has a .1% death rate, this will add to the existing death toll of the flu, making this a very bad flu season.

Reported cases being the operative words here. Everyone agrees using that denominator grossly over estimates the mortality rate.

In a country populated by 327 million people, the U.S., since January and after several weeks of testing, today there are 2975 known cases and 57 deaths, 41 in Seattle-area nursing homes.

The most commonly implicated virus for the common cold is the rhinovirus, up to 80% of cases. Rhinovirus is extremely virulent. If one person is infected with the virus, chances are his/her immediate family will become infected along with a fair number of business associates and friends.

After a period of several weeks there will be up to 2975 cases and 57 deaths by the rhinovirus caused common cold and related illnesses. Most of the deaths will occur among the elderly with underlying conditions.

    Sound familiar?

My point, had the governments been tracking the rhinovirus last year, there would be very similar results as the covid-19 virus this year. Actually, the rhinovirus may be more contagious. I would sure like to see a comparison, including number of deaths and ages of victims, but, for some reason, we won't get one.

To be perfectly honest, I really have no idea what is going on. I only know this. Based on actual numbers, not projections, not graphs, not rhetoric from politicians, this is not a serious problem. Come on, 57 deaths from a disease within a population of 327 million is not a serious matter.

Has anyone under the age of 50 died from covid-19 in the U.S.? I don't know, but I expect the answer to be no.

And I pointed that out. But even if the 3.5% reported death rate is wrong, and its only .3%, that is far worse than the .02% death rate of the swine flu.

Who’s to say what the mortality rate is. We know two things for sure though. It’s far less than the reported numbers and it’s for the most part only a concern for the elderly with underlying conditions as opposed to the Swine flu which was killing children and healthy adults.

    Ummmm

    The people researching this........

You left out the part where I said the leftist countries of the world are using this to grab power. Still a lot of Americans that don’t want to go down that path as witnessed by the election of Trump.

Diagnosed cases gives a false denominator world wide. Not only does it ignore undiagnosed cases but is even more slanted by the fact that people who present at ERs are obviously in distress and will obviously have a higher mortality rate than those who stay home thinking they have a cold or flu.

You mean like Trump keeping Chinese viri in China and EU viri in the EU. The news is that globalists now consider viri to be immigrants and anyone opposing immigrant viri deserving of the label, xenophobe. Another display of genius similar to the display that led to your defeat in 2016. Keep it up.

Since the average age of the people who died of COVID-19 in Italy was over 80, and that Italy was deeply involved with China in infrastructure projects, and that Italy is culturally different from the US, particularly wrgt the tightness of the family unit, the best way to use Italian data to forecast the future in the US is not to use it at all. It may be disappointing to people who wanted to blame Katrina on Bush and want to blame Coronavirus on Trump, but it's just a fact of life. Sorry.

We have no idea. The average age of dead people in Italy was over 80. In the US, the disease ran through a nursing home first. There are no good numbers yet.

"I like it when people are thinking I'm overreacting because that means we're doing it just right," Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.

57 deaths within a population of 327 million since January? More Americans have probably died from hiccups. What the hell is going on?

The age problem is well understood.
There are only 2 numbers you need to think about.
    1-Transfer rate
    2-Mortality rate

While you can make an argument for test rate, it's pretty hard to deny the people showing up at the hospitals and what percentage of those people die.

We do know the covid-19 infection is not much worse, if any, than the infection caused by the rhinovirus last year. We know that 80% of those infected don't know they are infected. They experience the symptoms of the common cold for about two weeks and that's it, end of story. That's because covid-19 is a new virus for an ancient disease, the common cold.

That's why people have to be tested. Most victims have no idea they have the virus. That alone makes the matter far less serious than we are led to believe. Then there are the numbers in the U.S. Only 57 dead since January. Come on, how serious is that?

The more known cases has sharply increased because increased testing, not increased cases.

68 dead since January in a population of 327 million, nearly all, if not all, of them elderly with preexisting conditions, tells the whole story.

The government and the media, for some reason, are trying to scare the daylights out of us. Look closely at the numbers in the U.S., not projections, not graphs of future statistics, not rhetoric from politicians, not what the politicians are doing.

    Look only at the numbers.

No. It's not due to testing. Google virus R0.
Or look at Italy's number of deaths. I'll leave it to you to work it backwards.

You don't get numbers on the common cold because there are over 200 cold viruses. The same reason there is not a vaccine.
