Tell an Australian what the argument is against building a border wall.

To defeat the wall, as Trump admitted, all you have to do is put up a ladder and drop a rope down the other side. The Mexican side is not being particularly heavily patrolled so transporting a ladder to and from, putting it up and climbing it and taking it away can be done in complete security. Dropping a rope and sliding down the other side is not much more inconvenience than now.

However, transporting the ladder to, erecting and climbing it and taking it away on the US side which is monitored far more is very risky to say the least. If the border control sees a ladder being transported towards the wall or from it they will investigate. Sliding down a wall on a rope takes moments but climbing the ladder takes much longer. The chance of discovery increases exponentially. A rope isn't nearly as visible as a ladder either, again the risk increases considerably.

The Berlin wall like prison walls slow(ed) would be escapees down long enough for the guards to react. They kept/keep people in, not out.

Something useful like a wind generation facility or a canal (with alligators?) should be incorporated into this if we are going to spend this much anyway.

Regarding your example, our poor security has definitely adversely affected our health system. We have leprosy in this country from people slipping in to get free health care.

 

Have you heard that the Mexicans are quite adept at digging tunnels? The Canadians too? It's been going on for decades.

 

They're not used much for people smuggling, more for drugs. Its not a realistic entry method. They have to construct the damn thing first and will likely be caught by border patrol who should then be able to track their path, find the tunnel exit and destroy the tunnel.

Forgetting about why city and town people aren't working in agriculture, I just wonder what has happened to the American's living in agricultural areas, once they leave high school. Now, its probably the case that there's no work available because it is taken by all of the aliens. So this argument that "the aliens are doing the jobs that American's don't want to do" surely cannot apply to the people who are living in these areas, because agriculture would be seen as an obvious career choice and I would expect that many WOULD want to do these jobs if they were available to them. The rates of kids moving out of home and heading straight to the city is probably pretty high.

Yeah, but if someone wanted to go over the wall on the US side, why do they have to use a ladder? Why not use a rope like those going over the wall on the Mexican side?

Because there have been numerous instances of tunnels under the border having been dug from Canada too, not just Mexico.

 

They lie or use false documents or local agencies fail to check backgrounds sufficiently.

Remember high school gym when you had to climb a rope? Imagine that with his 50 foot wall and all your possessions and trusting that the grappling hook got a good bite.

 

So how do they get over the wall from the Mexican side with a rope so easily?

 

They put up a ladder on the unwatched Mexican side where they drive through town with it on top of a friend's car and the police wave goodbye because they aren't going to do jack about it. Driving around with a ladder on the US side near the wall is going to get you unwanted attention. Sliding down a rope isn't nearly as hard nor time consuming which increases risk of discovery as climbing one.
