Well, so far I have been given no clue about how to become pro-American. I have received advice that strongly suggests I should not try. Maybe I should just lie back and think of England instead. Rather than of one of her erstwhile colonies.
Dude, our government is currently *beeped*. It has been for a long time, but being pro-American is not about being pro or anti-government, it's about fulfilling the true mission of our founding fathers (something which most people don't do, and almost all forms of mainstream news media with the exception of C-Span, prevent people from doing) and holding our leaders accountable for abusing their privileges (another thing most people forget.) All great things American can be summed up in two words: civil disobedience Sadly, our current political system ran on special interests and a PAC-bought news media actually block this value, making people ultimately go into uproar (the tea party is an example) because they feel that they are insignificant. The problem is that this uproar largely does not bring any constructive results, as they are not thinking, instead just screaming angrily and the gathering is then manipulated by various corporate interests so vulnerable people can be indoctrinated a specific world view. The greatest thing about being an American is civil disobedience and the power to overthrow a government the moment it stops working for the people (basically quoting George Washington word for word here.) I'm sure you, despite being from another country, understand this, probably far better than most Americans currently do.
If you agree with the Constitution and hate everything about the US government, then youre already more pro-American than 95% of Americans.
So, if Americans aren't willing to stand up, then they are not following the viewpoints of their founding fathers, they're just saying they do. But hey, they claim to be for the 8th Amendment, but still are for torture of accused enemy combatants, and support prohibition of drugs and a decrease in rights for homosexuals despite the 9th Amendment. I guess that's the new American way, don't actually follow your founders' principles, just say you do. I guess the one area where I truly agree with libertarian philosophy is that their "manifesto" specifically calls for shifting of power and if needed, overthrowing of governments the moment people in power start to get greedy, in order to allow individual liberty and capitalism to prosper. Now that is a principle our founders agree on.
tha'ts just a load of crap. I gave you solid advice precisely on how to become an American patriot. You ignoring my advice is not our problem. When you're ready, you can join us patriots by doing the following: - bungee jumping without bungee cord(shows courage, a stereotypical american trait) - wrestling Grizzly bears, lions or tigers(shows dominance, a stereotypical american trait) - Or just simply shooting yourself.(this shows the ultimate love for America)
Oh come now, there are good American actors. For example Dan Akroyd, Donald Sutherland, Glen Ford, Hayden Christiansen, Jim Carrey, John Candy, Keanu Reeves, Lorne Green, Mary Pickford, Matthew Perry, Phil Hartman, Raymond Burr, Raymond Massey, Ryan Gosling, and Ryan Reynolds. Oh wait...
It's tough. Just realize that what you see from the media and what you hear on the Internet is not entirely indicative of all America. Our media has turned our politics in to an embarrassment. But if you get a solid education from a good school, and you surround yourself around fellow educated/classy people, you then see a whole different side of America. There are some people here that care about others and can debate politics based on their views and not what they see on Fox News. They don't go around calling the President a Muslim or "insert childish name here". This even goes for the intelligent Republican's I know. Our problem is the majority of this Country is severely uneducated, so the media caters to them and that's what you see. That's why it wouldn't surprise me if one day they create a reality tv game show to decide who the President is. The advent of the Internet and mass media has been the destruction of America's realm of hegemony.
