    Do try to comprehend. Perry is not trying to raise taxes. Get it? When people are worried about taxes going up, they are afraid and that is bad for the economy. I am not here to lecture you on Economics 101. If you don't understand it, you'll have to get your education elsewhere.

    It is a huge drag on the economy. Texans have high hopes that it will not come to pass here. Barack's pathetic economy does hurt Texas. It's just not quite as bad as the rest of the country because we don't have a governor who adds insult to injury.

    Please do not insult me. I have insulted no one in this thread, and I have always treated you with the utmost of respect. I would like the same courtesy extended to me.

    Perry raised taxes.

    I do not know what that is supposed to mean. You said the following.

    I am not sure how litigation is supposed to create jobs, except for lawyers.

    Telling you to try to comprehend when you appear to be refusing to is not an insult.

    We are talking about the recovery, yes? A years old tax rate hike is not relevant. The franchise tax is the only thing that is relatively new. Your link states that it passed with a property tax decrease. I assume that's true though my own franchise tax went down.

    Obamacare is like a pair of cement boots. The lawsuit is like a lifevest. We don't know for sure if we'll go up or down. We just know we are better off than some of the other states that don't have a governor sticking up for them.

    Actually, it suggests that I did not comprehend, therefore I must be of inferior intelligence. I am not.

    I am sorry, but taxes were also raised.

    Okay. Still no one seems to state what it is that Perry has down that would account for the job growth in Texas, plus the job growth in Texas predates the current administration.

    So his merely being there during an uptic in jobs numbers means what? Does your side credit Obama likewise for any positives occurred on his watch?

    And then there's this fun factoid;
    Rival Michele Bachmann recently likened one of the deals subsidized by the Texas Enterprise Fund to Solyndra, the California energy company that went bust after receiving a $528 million loan from the federal stimulus program.

    Perry's state fund "gave $35 million and a grant to a private company and there were donors in that private company," Bachmann said, referring to Perry campaign contributors. Though the company promised to create jobs, "they didn't create any,".

    No it did not. It suggested that you were not trying to comprehend.

    I already answered this.

    That statement is untrue. Several people have stated several things that Perry has done that helps our economy. This is what you do when you are losing an argument. Debate the facts or get out of the thread and leave it to people who will.

    ~~~~~~~
    I will say this. I think that Texas has not reached the bottom yet. We're gonna have a housing crisis in the next couple of years and the governor can do nothing about it. I believe this because just recently a house sold near me that should have sold for about $187K. This house was owned by HUD and sold for $111K. It's not just sad for the people who owned it and lost it to foreclosure. It's sad for everyone in the neighborhood who has to compare to it. The point is that Barack and the idiots in DC can damage the economy despite the best efforts of the state's government.
    Actually, it was an insult. Saying it was not does not make it so.
    Yes, and Perry still raised taxes.
    Such as?
    Please. I have not lost anything and no one has stated what it was that Perry has done that has improved jobs numbers in Texas.
    There is no reason for me to leave the thread. Every claim that has been attempted I have refuted with fact, such as the fact that Perry raised taxes.
    Job growth in Texas predates Perry. I have seen nothing put forth that can be attributed to him.
    You mean leave the thread so it can be left alone to happily fester in it's own falsehoods?
    TFM has comepletely thrashed this trash thread with facts, and crying about it won't help much.
    Perry is everything the hate mob slams Obama for, and once the heat was on him he melted, something Obama doesn't do.
    Good comments, but it's true that it's usually non-productive to present common-sense and facts to the libs. :)
    Why? What's that have to do with anything? Oil is our natural resource....and our nation needs it. So, why wouldn't we produce it and make money? This is despite all the liberals attempts to stop it and curtail it.
    "Fireworks and cigarettes???" :omg: That's hilarious. BOTH of these things actually COST the state.....so why wouldn't we hit them with an extra tax? Fireworks cost the state multi-millions in fighting the fires they often cause. Cigarettes raise the cost of healthcare and insurance. Anyone engaging in either of these activities should pay at least some of their fair share in the costs to the states of both activities. This was totally supported by all in our state.....except probably the cigarette smokers.
    I know for a fact that as a result of Gov. Perry's policy, my real estate taxes went down....when he signed into law a 33% school property tax reduction. This affects many more people than fireworks and cigarettes does. He also provided a $2,000 pay raise for teachers, and record funding for classrooms. And the business tax your article stated was really a reform of the law, making it more fair---closing loopholes and broadening the base of businesses that pay the tax.
    For 7 of the last 7 years (all Gov Perry years) Texas has ranked #1 by businesses as being the BEST for business. CEO's of 500 corporations continued to place Texas as #1 in areas of taxation, regulation of workforce quality, and overall living environment.regulation. And that is DESPITE the FACT that Texas has also attracted 4.3 million more people over the last decade----the most of any other state.
    California, BTW, continues to rank last (#50) by businesses. :)
    Listen, if you want to justify raising taxes, you go right ahead. The fact is he did.
    Yes, he raised taxes in businesses.
    I understand you want to justify your failed statements by saying that California sucks, but it seems to me that is nothing more than a distraction, an attempt to deflect the simple fact is once reality and history is applied to Perry's rhetoric, he falls far short of the truth and having actually accomplished something that would indicate his policies created the jobs boom that predates him.
    Exactly 12thMan! Our state has been affected and will continue to be affected by the nation's woes. It's inevitable. But we've STILL fared much better than all others.
    In the meantime, Obama and the idiots in DC continue to do some of the same things they did that got us in this mess in the first place. Have you seen any Fannie and Freddie reform yet? Nope. That's because while the Republican want the federal gov't to get out of the business of housing--or at least severely lessen it-- the Dems want it to continue. Since key to any changes would need to take place in the Senate--- and with Dems in control, this isn't going to happen this year.
    You're nitpicking over things that don't matter. I'm sure your lovely Gov would trade places with the SUCCESS that Gov. Perry has enjoyed for over 10 years now.
    BTW, whatever Perry's record is or isn't.....it beats the record of Barack Obama hands down! Obam spent an entire year shoving his massive ObamaCare down the nation's throat while he should have been tending to the nation's financial woes and doing something to create jobs. He's a HUGE failure. And the sooner we get him OUT of office....whether it's Perry or Romney or Cain or whomever, the nation can begin it's recovery. That time cannot come soon enough.
    Hmm. You mean like the FACT that Texas ranks #1 by 500 businesses for the best place to do business for 7 years in a row now? There's a reason for that. And trying to claim that Gov Perry had nothing to do with that is crazy.
    Wrong. You tout Perry, and then claim it is okay that he raised taxes because that makes everything more fair, plus cigarettes are bad. I am not nitpicking jack (*)(*)(*)(*). I am pointing out that Perry has done nothing, nothing, that could cause the Texas job growth. The growth predates his becoming governor. The growth seems to be linked to oil drilling techniques, which Perry did not invent.
    It would appear that to date no one, including yourself, has been able to state what it was that Perry has done.
    Okay. Not sure what this has to do with the thread topic other than attempt to deflect some more form Perry's lack of accomplishments.
    But those taxes were also implemented back in 2001, long before the current crisis, at a time when the national economy was not being bogged down by the federal govt. Since the recession, he has not done things to make it worse the way Barack did. Our low tax base is the only thing that has protected us.
    Phil Gramm taught Economics at A&M all 4 years Perry was there. :D
    Perry has kept taxes low and created a business-friendly enviroment. He's eased the regulation burden on businesses here. You bring up oil drilling. IF we placed all the heavy regulation on our oil industry here that the Democrats and liberals are known for.....there would be no growth in our oil drilling revenues. In fact, Perry has maintained our state's traditional low-tax, low-regulation environment for the oil industry. And he was a vocal critic of Obama's administration for their moratorium on new deepwater drilling projects in the Gulf of Mexico. Obama used one accident as an excuse to cut out oil drilling on all deepwater projects in the Gulf of Mexico......even despite the other's good records. Talk to any oil men down here and they'll tell you who is friend and who is foe regarding their business and their ability to bring oil supplies to the nation's supply.
    Perry raised taxes. I am not sure how raising taxes equates to taxes being kept low.
    Really? He just singed into law new regulations for the oil industry.
    http://dfw.cbslocal.com/2011/07/15/perry-signs-fracking-chemical-safety-law/
    Obviously you are incorrect. Perry raised taxes and implemented new regulations on the oil industry.
    Again, you are trying to deflect.
    True. Some people don't seem to realize that NOT doing something.....especially something negative and harmful....is also leadership. Like Gov. Perry has stated before.....if he gets to Washington D. C. he will work hard to make sure that the federal gov't is as inconsequential to us as possible. And that's a good thing. Too much federal gov't in our lives now.
    True. Govt has a place. It's not like small govt people are anarchists. Monitoring natural gas wells is not the same thing as restricting them altogether. One facilitates growth, the other doesn't. Perry actually has nice record of environmentally friendly legislation that is also business friendly.
    Exactly. And he did not pass legislation recently on the oil industry....it was the gas drilling industy. Those are TWO different things; obviously some are not aware of that fact. More importantly, the gas drilling industry backed Gov Perry on what he passed; they were supportive of it. Why? Because it has to do with transparency.....stating publically what chemicals they use in the fracking process. That's a win-win for everyone involved. There's a lot of people that don't understand the fracking process....and this helps to clear it up. This was not the Obama type regulation on industry....which is stifling business and which needs to be lifted. Gov Perry has stated he will seek to get rid business of these heavy-handed regulations placed on them by the current president.
    In a meeting with business leaders at the first of the year, Obama heard their concerns about this stifling regulation and he promised to do something about it. He has NOT kept that promise. So....is it any wonder business does NOT trust this man????
    WOW! You two have the patience of Job! ;)
    Back to the topic... this is wonderful news for Texans! Can't imagine it will hurt Perry's chances either. Doesn't matter how much one might despise his Texas swagger, his results speak for themselves!
