More bad news for EV advocates.
2024 Registrations Of New Electric Cars Plummet 27.5% In Germany…”Petrol Dominates”
    By P Gosselin on 12. January 2025

How’s the Green New Deal working out in Germany? Not very well at all.

Firstly, Germany has been in recession for almost 2 years now – thanks mostly to the policies of Economics Minster Robert Habeck (Green Party), who incidentally has no education in economics, business or finance. The guy just doesn’t know what he’s doing.

Secondly, German energy prices are among the most expensive in the world, and the German power supply has become more unstable than ever. Germany is now in a rapid deindustrialization tailspin.

    E-cars aren’t selling

Another indicator that the Green New Deal is faltering badly: sales of new electric cars have plummeted 27.5%, reports Blackout News here, citing data from the Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA). “Only 380,600 electric vehicles were newly registered. This corresponds to a decline of 27.5 percent compared to the previous year.”

“Diesel cars were even ahead of purely electric cars at 17.2 percent, reports Blackout News. “These figures show how far away Germany is from the government’s electromobility targets. According to the KBA, there were only 1.4 million electric cars on the roads at the turn of 2024/25, while the target is around 15 million by 2030.”

With the bad figures, it’s only natural that e-car proponents are calling for more subsidies in order to entice consumers to opt for e-cars, and higher taxes to punish those who refuse to cooperate by buying diesel or petrol engine vehicles, which are more reliable and cheaper.

    Future remains bleak for e-mobility

So what does the future hold? That of course will depend on the outcome of the coming February 23 national elections. Currently the (fake) conservative CDU/CSU party are leading in the polls (29%) and are expected to win. But a new government under chancellor Friedrich Merz would likely continue Angela Merkel’s disastrous green policies, albeit at a slower rate than the current socialist-Green government under Olaf Scholz.

Growing resistance, AfD on the rise

However, Germany’s new conservative-libertarian AfD party, led by the charismatic Alice Weidel, is steadily closing the gap (22%), and today there’s even a chance of a major upset occurring come the end of February! The momentum is clearly on their side. Elon Musk called the AfD “Germany’s last hope.”

Though a victory by the anti-Green-New-Deal AfD party likely would not mean the chancellorship and thus a takeover of the reins of power, it would be another major setback for the ever increasingly unpopular green movement.

To make matters worse for the German green movement, President Trump will certainly bring energy prices down in USA, and thus further exacerbate Germany’s economic uncompetitiveness. Germany’s needs to wake up from its green fantasies.

In summary, the next four years don’t offer much hope for Germany and its crumbling green movement. To reach the set targets, authoritarian measures certainly would need to be enacted.

EV trucks were always the weakest link, and that is where the fantasy is collapsing first.
Markers On The Road To The Green Energy Wall -- Electric Trucks Edition
    March 10, 2025/ Francis Menton

    • In a post in December 2021, I first asked which state or country would be the first to hit the “Renewable Energy Wall” — described as “a situation where the electricity system stops functioning, or the price goes through the roof,” or some other aspects of impossibility become so unavoidable that the zero carbon fantasy must be abandoned.

    • In subsequent posts I have explored various ways that the Wall was starting to manifest — for example, cancellation of offshore wind energy developments, and abandonment of large investments in producing so-called “green hydrogen.”

    • Although the coming of the Wall has been obvious to intelligent observers for a long time, the green energy fantasists had set their statutory and regulatory mandates sufficiently far into the future that there was no immediate reckoning.

    • But now, five and more years on, that is starting to change. The first of the impossible mandates are suddenly looming. The arrival of President Trump on the scene has also been a huge negative for the green energy crowd. But for today I’ll focus on a subject that has much more to do with reality than with any action of the President. That subject is fully electrified heavy duty trucks.

"The mandate only applies to manufacturers’ sales, not to the actual fleets of the truck operators. The manufacturers seem to have figured out some workaround for themselves that is working at least for the moment."

I'll tell you how they're doing it. They're crossing the state borders to buy trucks in states that don't have those stupid rules. Then they're bringing them home and licensing them as normal.

    There's always workarounds to stupidity.

    Another one bites the dust.
BMW Suspends Production Of Mini Models In Oxford…”Lower Than Expected Demand”
    By P Gosselin on 11. March 2025

The original plan was BMW would start production of two all-electric Mini models in Oxford beginning 2026 and then to produce only electric vehicles by 2030.

Drivers are not enthused about electric cars . Image generated by Grok AI.

But the latest report is that BMW is stopping production of the E-mini models at its Oxford plant “due to insufficient demand,” reports Blackout News here, citing automobilwoche: 24 February 2025. “BMW cites uncertainties in the automotive industry and lower than expected demand for electric vehicles as the main reasons for the stop.”

The announcement further underscores that the enthusiasm for electric vehicles remains sluggish as Europe labors ahead with decarbonization efforts.

Also global uncertainty has contributed to the sluggish BMW e-car demand as countries move to impose tariffs amid trade disputes.

“The Mini plant in Oxford will continue to produce models with combustion engines for the time being. However, BMW emphasizes that the plant will continue to play a central role for the Mini brand in the future, Blackout News adds.

personally, I prefer the cars\trucks without all the digital stuff from the 1990's or so, regardless if EV or ICE, the digital stuff makes them cost more and cost more to maintain and decreases lifespan

Same basic argument could have applied as cars came on the scene....no gas stations, no paved roads, smokey stinky cars are far less comfortable than a nice horse drawn carriage....Why bother with replacing horses with a Ford?

I have a brand new Chevy Blazer EV. Love it. Most of our driving is around town. Recharging on a 110 outlet is at about 2.5 miles per hour. On a 240 outlet it goes up to 25 miles per hour and with a level 2 charger it is 35 miles per hour. We have not tried to find one of the high speed chargers...at present it costs us about $.50 to go 40 miles....we have solar on the house.

The EV has a role as a local runabout (as you are using it) in a multi-car household. It is unsuitable for road trips of any length.

We planned a trip from Denver to Minneapolis. The GM supplied ap mapped out starting fully charged in Denver to a point in Nebraska with a high speed charger. It estimated 20 minutes stop at a restaurant with chargers...then on to a stop for the night at a hotel with a high speed charger. Leaving fully charged in the morning and another stop 200 miles away for another break for 20 to 30 minutes and then on to Minneapolis. It is a total of 680 miles and never gets dangerously low. Of course it assumes that the chargers are working and available. A level 2 charger works at 35 miles per hour. Chargepoint just announced V2X chargers at 70 miles per hour.

As in the early 1900s...as more of the EVs are on the road there will be more chargers. I love our EV.

Most people have no problem with EV’s. But many do have issues with the tax credits and subsidies. Good luck with yours.

I think they are a passing fancy. At best a niche vehicle in the long run.

EV are cool, but they don't work for me....I live deepin the desert, 250 mls from any major city were we can grocery shop. Also, they are not particularly "environmentally friendly"

As well as EV mandates that ban internal combustion engines.
