One of the larger possible mistakes here is that we can't wait hundreds of years. I think my new robot body will wear out before then. Another is in your comment about shutting down the Atlantic thermal conveyor current, thus freezing NY (and UK, I'd guess). That current is a method of distributing heat around Earth, and doesn't have anything to do with cooling Earth's average temp. If that conveyor were to stop, Earth would not get cooler. It would just mean that some areas (like NY) would be much colder and other areas would be much hotter. This would be a serious problem, caused by warming Earth, for people living in very large regions of Earth, including where it gets far colder and where it gets far hotter.
