RT America ceases productions and lays off most of its staff

I spent an entire day watching Russia's propaganda network. Here's the warped reality I saw presented to viewers

I'm actually amazed at how quickly this happened. This particular paragraph from the second link, I thought was quite interesting:

    Real-world consequences
RT is being choked from public discourse now that Russia has invaded Ukraine and its role in promoting the Kremlin's dishonest talking points has been exposed. But the outlet's propaganda aired across the world unfettered for years and years, coloring the minds of untold numbers of people, many who distrust western news organizations. It's a shame that it takes a war to get corporations to realize that the programming they beam into homes does matter. Russia's real-world war started last week, but it's information war started long before then. Imagine if these companies had acted sooner how things might be different.
This begs me to wonder, when will we reach the breaking point for the tolerance of Fox News and right-wing media propaganda? When is enough, enough?

I've been asking this question for 20 years. And I was a Republican for 20 years.

No Russia Today! Woohoo. That will put an end to many posts on this website.

I'm not talking about censorship, I'm talking about when will the appetite for this bullshit-style propaganda finally wane?

    As soon aspeo
As soon as people stop agreeing with it. Confirmation bias is the only thing that keeps most propaganda going to begin with. As soon as people stop being bigots and fascists Fox and Tucker will have no more listeners

This also explains why there are so many right wing radio stations and so few left wing ones. Reality has a leftist bias. Propaganda has to be constantly repeated or reality erodes it. Truth speaks for itself

How’s that Russia Russia Russia Steele Dossier German Bank Russian Mafia working for you? Don’t forget Mr Maddow had an entire show on one year of Trump’s taxes which only proved he paid more taxes than Obama and Clinton combined.

I wasn't alive 100 years ago but I was alive when my relatives that were alive then were so I heard about the first hand accounts and I was a good student, even in history.

It's kind of bizarre that you seem to think the only way to acquire knowledge is having lived during specific historical events. That's what libraries and documentaries and education is for. But, you do you.
That's because you're looking through the wrong in, Luc. The media is just giving these **hungry** <whatever you want to call them> what they want. They are in the business of making money, not critical thinkers or introspective people.

The more likely explanation is because the audience of the radio talk shows consists of hard-working, overly-taxed Americans who listen in their vehicles while they are driving to and from work. Leftist programing can't survive with that audience.

Are you suggesting government sanction the right and shut down right wing media? Total chaos will ensue.

Not shut down - but CNN, Fox, and all the cable ENTERTAINMENT shows should have to take the word "news" off their name.

Radio, podcasts, interviews, and live videos have too much content, information, and ideas. Being told what to think and falling in line is actually a much simpler process that requires less words. That's what mainstream news is for,to tell the lazy low information thinkers what to think.

Yes you're right we should have none of that right wing media....

We don't need any side that presents a dissenting point of view. We should just let the left have a complete and total Monopoly on all information presented to the people....

most of my friends are senior citizens, some seem surprised that I have a very good knowledge of classic rock, as most of the older classic rock came about before I was born.

But yes it is rather strange that someone would initially assume that because you were not alive at some point you cannot have knowledge of any of it.

Like we'll be sitting around listening to a song and I'll say that's this song by Jefferson starship or whatever and they'll look at me and go how did you know that?

They have a news and opinion as separate things but even their news can be biased. Are humans even capable of being unbiased? Even the attempt to determine what is relevant news can be biased and yet it is a necessary task. I think having different voices and news outlets is the only way to obtain a balanced diet. Problem is that everyone is too comfortable in their bubbles.

It's strange. I've heard that these last 2-3 generations won't even **attempt** to watch anything in black and white. I guess that's why remakes are so popular. It's just weird.

I live alone since my divorce and I don't know one person here that has a library card. I can check out e-books online and there are a ton of cool FREE courses on Coursera. It's amazing to me that almost everything we want to know is at our fingertips.

However, the downside seems to be that later generations don't really know how to properly socialize. I wonder about all the babies born during the pandemic. Their whole world has been nothing but isolation. I hope parents with little ones are doing things to keep them properly connected with the world while staying safe.

I got slapped for sassing one of my aunts as a kid. She died of COVID last January. Anyway, she used to use the same tea bag 2-3 times. She would say "I lived through the Great Depression" and my dumb@ss blurted out "No, you didn't! The Depression started in XX year and you were born in XX year so it's impossible, blah, blah." <Smack!> So, I learned that when her generation said that they actually meant they learned to be frugal because their parents **lived through the Depression**. I never made that mistake again. ;-)

I don't know if you've seen pictures of the recumbent bicycles that I've fabricated or the trikes that I've posted here over the years, but about 10 years ago I rode my bike to Tampa which was a hundred miles in a day but that's another story took over 12 hours ... ....

To see a friend of mine that I've known since I was 16. I don't know how it was that he hooked up with this woman but anyhow she was an actual Holocaust survivor that lived on a big palatial estate and the woman was filthy rich.

We were there to do some labor for her. When I got there and my friend made the introduction she looked at my bike a couple of minutes and then she thought and she told my friend she said stick with this man he's a survivor.... Needless to say I was humbled and honored by her statement.

She paid us both $150 for about 4 hours worth of Labor and personally cooked each of us a steak dinner. It was a day I'll never forget.

I'm kind of frugal myself I've been using the same piece of tin foil in my oven for a while now, after all I just cooked pizza on top so I throw it away to spend money to use more?

I don't look at things for what they are I look at things and I say to myself now what can I make out of this what can I use this for?

Sadly my friend passed away several months ago from cancer, and I'm sure the old woman passed years back as she was very elderly then.

Ah the good times me and my friend had over the years riding our bicycles to go saltwater fishing sometimes camping overnight drinking fishing and watching the pretty women....

:blushes: ~ Yes indeed. I look forward to the internet firewall the Biden administration has proposed. As of now we have too many choices and it gets confusing wondering what to watch. Best let the government decide — just like China.

This tendency to ban and deplatform those you disagree with is the biggest danger to freedoms in the West.

We will always fight back, no matter if it's Infowars, DemocracyNow, RT, MSNBC, or some small time podcaster. We will spread any banned media twice as hard as you crack down on it. I will always stick up for those I disagree with and their right to say disagreeable things unimpeded.

    Do your worst.

You don't honestly expect him to take responsibility for his own behaviour? They would drum him out of the 'angry right wing white guys' club. Blaming other people is a requirement for membership.

That's when I listened to it and under exactly those circumstances. It turned me against it. Rush Limbaugh converted me from a libertarian objectivist to a Bidenesque liberal in a mere matter of months.

I apologize but I'm not pulling up any memories of your positions. I agree with your statement across the board. Too much information has never killed anybody. Too little has.

What is your opinion on book burning and efforts to remove CRT because it's considered "racist" to talk about the other people that helped birth and build this nation? I don't really understand that view because it's never been considered "racist" that ALL students had to learn about white settlement (with the other contributors relegated as footnotes, if mentioned at all).

Yes, I have. Some our first conversations were about your trikes and your partner being unwell. How is she doing?

I'm sorry about your friend. Remember they are not gone when we keep their memories in our heart.

She sounds lovely. What a nice memory. Thanks for sharing that with us.
