Unlike probably most of my colleagues on the right, I was familiar with the works of Derrida and Crenshaw before all this came to pass. It depends on the specifics. Are you teaching it as gospel or as part of an exhaustive review? Are you using it as pretext to shame white students? If a student demonstrates understanding of the topic but persists in disagreeing, will you fail them? Context matters. I don't think any topic should be off limits if handled correctly. In any case, I have no horse in the race as I don't have kids and if I did I would homeschool them. Speech we use public funds to disseminate is a touchy area no doubt.
Kinda sad there....I was with her for 10 years. In the summer of 2017 she had a stroke and required round the clock care, needed help to even get on toilet, or transfer anywhere. She got to where she could not bear wait on her remaining leg and there was nothing I could do anymore if I couldn't transfer her. So she's been in the nursing home over a year now and she basically hates my guts. Told me the free ride was over to go get a job so that's exactly what I did. Life has to go on as sad as sometimes the endings are.... Now I have a new girlfriend for about the last 4 months now, she's the one going through cancer treatment. But the good news is her last chemo treatment is upcoming and she only has several more radiation treatments and she's done.... I hope. She has done as well as could be expected if not more so. Since the cancer is in her throat she required a feeding tube as it got to where she could hardly even swallow water at one point and she's kept her weight up exceptionally well. She could have blew away in a strong breeze before the cancer so it's surprisingly good that she's maintained her weight. That's the thing about getting older we have to watch people come and go.
Bloody hell mate, you've had a rough hand dealt to you. My hat goes off to you for making the best of it you can.
Oh, I am so sorry to hear that. I don't get the way some people treat each other. I'm glad you are picking up the pieces and moving forward. I'm doing the same thing after 20+ years. It's tough but we're survivors! All the best with your new gf's treatments.
Well, I did spend my entire life arriving at this moment. Whether folks realize that or not that is true for everyone. And thank you and I hope you and yours are well
That's nice. I was too and it gives a better perspective than just having somebody blurt something out. It's kind of funny (but sad in a way), but every single time I travel by plane, at least one flight attendant or another passenger will ask me if I'm in night school. I'd reply that I wasn't and they'd give me a look and say something along the lines of "Well, why are you reading?" I almost did run in the streets screaming the first time I ever stayed overnight at my now former in-laws' house. There was not a book, magazine, newspaper, etc.. Nothing to read in their house and I have insomnia (obviously. lol). It was shocking and I already finished the novel I had. That was a long night. I am not aware of anyone using it to shame white students but I haven't read up on the latest happenings because I'm burnt out on the arguing back and forth (about everything, not just this). I know that some parents were arguing about it being hateful but it sounded more like a situational thing here or there. I do NOT believe that ANY subject should be used to shame anyone for any reason unless it's something that is so outrageously horrible nobody debates that. Of course. I know this is happening in many schools and it gives a different "outlook" on situations when I read statistics because I know the input is incorrect or very skewed. I also agree about context. The biggest barrier I've found is that people with very hard lines about certain topics aren't receptive to any other viewpoints or empirical data so they persist in digging their heels in to avoid the essentially "unknown" if that makes sense. I absolutely agree with this. Too much information has never killed anyone. Too little has...repeatedly. I don't either. My ex kidnapped our two kids about five years ago (yeah, next month will be five years) and I'm excluded from any parental decisions and everything so I technically don't have a horse in the race either. And, I am completely onboard with homeschooling. I intended to do that before the ex flipped the switch and walked. I never liked the idea of my kids going to traditional schools because I don't believe it's a very effective way to prepare children for life. Sure, we can all learn the basics but if a kid is bored or disinterested or is being abused at home or is hungry...the information isn't going to get through anyway. My kids obviously weren't in the latter two but they were in the first two because we were always doing things and learning from the time they were born. We taught them baby sign language. I love to cook and bake (sometimes) and I found a cookbook with colored measuring cups and spoons so the kids didn't have to know how to read to help me in the kitchen and they loved it. We were always doing science experiments or we'd take them with us when volunteering in the community so they met all kinds of people. We never isolated our children from other races or non-heterosexual people. We just told them that the world is made up of all kinds of people and nobody is born bad or evil and character is what matters. Both my kids have received certificates at school for being the kindest to their classmates. Shameless brag. I also don't understand why we put kids through 12-13 years of school and then say "Figure out what you want to do for the rest of your life." and unless they have interactive, caring parents/guardians or a stable home life, and maybe a part-time job somewhere, they aren't going to have enough information to make a good choice. I think this is why so many people are miserable in their jobs. They just picked something that sounded good on paper and got stuck in it. I was drawn to homeschooling and unschooling because it gives parents or whomever is involved in the course curriculums and teaching the joy of giving children the opportunity to not only learn the basics but gravitate toward and have cultivated their area(s) of interests. And, studies prove that people that people that enjoy their work are much more productive and contribute joy to their work environment. That approach can only enrich any field in which a person is proud and happy to be in. Absolutely. I think one of the biggest threats to civilization is the unwillingness to talk to one another. There is no reason to have voices, languages and the ability to reason if we just turn into animals and want to beat each other like Animal Kingdom. I am not terribly shocked by Putin's actions but I've been thinking about it within that context. We've been waging war since the beginning of time. Why? What is so awful that it's impossible to talk about? How could something get to be so awful that it's impossible to talk about? Where did the lines of communication break down that allowed that to happen and how do we move forward in a more proactive, less destructive way to overcome these basal pack animals urges to just start blowing things and people up? It's a waste of our gifts. Thanks for your thoughtful reply. P.S. My apologies for messing up your quote above. I've reported my post so it should get fixed when a moderator sees it.
In less than one month Putin has utterly squandered something close to a half century of good PR that Russia had been accumulating since the fall of the Soviets in 1989. Tsarist Russia, that old epitome of autocracies that De Toqueville thought would be the main paragon of subjection in the next (his twentieth) century has arisen from its long sleep and is as fully loathsome in 2022 as it was in 1832. I only hope its people will not take as long a time to throw off its present tyranny as they did before.
Fair enough - although you must be in the minority on being converted to the "Bidenesque." Otherwise, liberal radio talk shows could survive - but they don't.
Liberals don't need the constant repetition of their beliefs to reinforce them. Reality agrees with us, we don't need to erect a facade over it.
I think FOX news et al serve a necessary purpose. They, along with other networks may also want to take a long hard look at the disinformation their entertainment division spreads just to turn a buck and serve the warped agenda of a nut at the top of the "republican" platform.
Oh sure, there are some Lefties that are suddenly anti disinformation? Don't make us laugh. BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA
Fear response and tribalism are imprinted genetically, subconscious triggers. The problem is not the B/S, it's the B/S meter of the viewers.
No, lefties tend to listen music on the radio. Who needs political talk driving to work? I listen to YouTube album cuts via BlueTooth, mostly. Who needs Am radio? It's mostly a wasteland now. If I wanted talk radio, I can listen Sirius XM, which simulcast cable TV channels.
Well you're right about that, but do keep an eye on them. I've found it fascinating how many of their articles can be sourced back to either RT or Pravda itself since around 2006. Sometimes directly. Sometimes through these pop up news sites. Check it out sometime it's bizarre.
Utter left wing tripe. Who was it that gave Ukraine lethal arms for the first time in history? Trump Who was it that cancelled Trump allocations and stopped all weapons to Ukraine in May 2021 Biden Who was that sanctioned and stopped the completion of Putins NS2 pipeline that would stranglehold all of Europe? Trump Who was it that removed those sanctions in June of 2021 allowing Putin to continue Biden Who was it the killed over 200 Russians in Syria Trump Who was it that imposed 52 policy actions and sanctions against Putin Trump Who was it that ousted over 60 Russian oligarchs and indicted them Trump Seems the normal leftist tripe doesn't line up with actual historical events No surprise there
I think it's because of the sanctions. RT is broke. They can't pay their trolls anymore. I'm not sad about that. Here in Europe, all Russkie propaganda media is down, not only RT.
