Well, why did Russia even start this massive military build-up, and aggressive rethoric? It's not as if NATO was gonna invade them. I can understand that Russia didn't like when eastern europe joined NATO, but they only did so because they were still scared of the USSR legacy. But NATO cut spending on a massive scale after the soviet collapse. Russia didn't have anything to fear from NATO. The EU only wants to trade with Russia and be friends, nothing else.

It seems to me Russia just doesn't want to be friends. They don't like ukraine getting closer to the EU, because they want them in their own economic club. They don't like baltics as part of NATO, even though it's no military threat, because they think baltics should be russian.

 

Don't worry about Russia, you fool, worry about Islamic State.

And do they need it? Not really, because what they have can match the Western things too.

If you are still in the believing and stage of the Iraq War when USSR / Russian material was food for the US weapons, you ignore many facts.
One thing is for example that the T-72 and follower series are no helpless meat against Abrams tanks anymore and they have ammunition which cracks the armor of the M1A1/A2, because it hits like US missile TOW-2B from above!
Also ... the Serbian forces in their smallness and using Russian weapons too show that the so deep modern US weapons can become easy meat too or that they are not always able to be successful.
The Serbian Air Defense - weapons of 1970's - shot down a F-117 as you know. Also, even Iraqi Mig-29's were shot down by US planes always, a Serbian Mig-29 survived 4 (!!!) AMRAM missile attacks and made this so highly recommended missile to be ridiculous, due to pure flight skills of pilot, which was trained in Russia!
