I have seen several republicans condemning Michelle Obama's call for kids to start eating healthier......most of them twist it into some evil plot to outlaw Twinkies.....

They say that it is their right to eat whatever they want.....and they are right....but this is not about them it's about their children........Children do not have a choice in what they eat...they eat what their parents put on the table. It is common knowledge now that trans fats, carbohydrates, ect, are very unheathy. Is it fair for a parent to knowingly force their children become unheathy just so they can not do what a democrat says should be done? No it's not......

The point of the matter is if given the choice, most children will choose to eat junkfood over so-called "healthy" food, and what's this knowingly force stuff? I don't know or have heard of any parent that would compromise their child's health based on partisan political views.

You get enough sugar from fruits like apples and banana...to survive......the ammount of carbs that are eaten every day in america is over 500% more than a person needs to survive......

Add the fact that the additives that food companies add to food have made it so that the average person's metabolism is very low, most of those carbs are not burned off, but instead build up in the body......
The only people who need a high carbs diet are people who are very active in their lives like athletes, cops, and other people who actualy do alot of running...

The body is hard wired to search for and crave high energy foods and difficult to find minerals that are vital but always in short supply.

Meat - the best source of protein.

Salt - Hard to come by and vital.

    Sugar - high energy.

Fat - a flavour enhancer that is a very high energy source.

So what do junk foods taste of? Meat, Salt, Sugar and Fat.

Children are hard wired to crave those tastes as a survival instinct.

There fore their parnets have to train the child to eat these foods in moderation.

Anything that makes that training harder results in a potentially unhealthy diet.

This is really stupid and petty.. Barbara Bush wanted them to read, Nancy Reagan wanted them to say no to drugs. JFK set up the Presidential Fitness Test for 6th graders.

Trans fats and carbs are two different things...If you do not know that then your opinion on the subject does not means (*)(*)(*)(*).

You would be supprised how many parents give their kids unhealthy foods just because they are convienient and don't give a rat's ass whether it causes health problems. My friend's mom used to gim a dollar and send him up to macdonald's every day because she was too lazy to cook.

I aced JFK's test, still have my certificate... Just saying, seeing that reference brought back fond memories... Alas, what other leaders did was offer a challenge, the leaders of today offer mandates...

It is easy to stay healthy. Here are some general rules:

    1. Drink 1 gallon or more of water every day.
    2. Get your Macro-Nutrients correct (make sure you get your vitamins/minerals/water/protein/carbohydrate/lipids)
    3. Workout AT LEAST 3x a week. Weight Lifting is anaerobic unless your doing circuit training, so if your weight lifting, add 30 minutes of light cardio 3x a week, your set.
    4. Figure out what calorie intake you want. If you want to gain weight, eat more then you require, if you want to lose weight, eat 500 less per day, no more then 1000 less or that gets dangerous.
    5. Don't over-do your protein/carb/lipid intake, unless your weight lifting for muscle, which means more protein.

    Hold up there!

The body can survive just fine with no ingested carbs. That's why the Atkins or other variances of the low carb diet work. That's why carnivors subsist on meat with very little carbs. The liver converts protein into the requisite amount of sugar that the brain needs to operate. In fact, so efficient is our internal mechanisms for creating glucose that we create just enough and not the excessive amounts that contribute to adiposity.

Great advice. This highly subscribed formula has kept people from losing weight for several decades. But don't let failure stop you from repeating the axiom.

Your way is boring as hell, no offense, a bottle or three of wine beats a gallon of water any day, unless you are stuck in a desert dying of thirst, then water is great...

The bigger problem is people living too long in a system that can't support them. Its a simple reality, but longer life spans with limited or zero productivity in the later stages is more a hindrance to society than a boon. Modern medicine will be the death of us all... There is more to that, but most don't care to hear it.

Actually, it's about why the personal opinion of some woman named Michelle Obama is ranked above the personal opinions of everybody else. Nobody voted for her, and I don't get to go on the news and tell you what I think you should be feeding your kids.

The media set the standard, now Michelle Obama is trying to get everyone else to accept that standard.

If you don't know the standard, in on the front of the next Vogue magazine. Odd that Michelle Obama would push that... Just another example of liberal hypocrisy... Get the votes, don't live in the same dirt as those that vote.. Let them eat cake, indeed...

What? The 5 rules I listed help a lot with health. If you want to lose weight, then just burn more calories then you take in. Not difficult.

Eh, you get to like water after you drink it for a while. Vitamin Water Zero Calorie is great too.

Ah my friend, I can still afford wine, I'll take that for now, although these libs will soon remove even that from me with their (*)(*)(*)(*)able tax increases... Nobody wins with tax increases, this whole thing is about killing some government spending, I say 15% across the board. Its fair, and if it hits everyone the same, there is little room to cry..

Ah, yes, Hillary's book comes to mind. Remember, "The Village Takes your Child to Raise"?

I'm assuming Daggdag doesn't have kids if he thinks they eat what Mom puts on the table. When my wife joined a cult that promoted tofu, trust me, the kids didn't eat it. Hell, to dog wouldn't eat it.

On the long list of people liberals hate would be fat people. Liberals are based on hatred. I'm not sure they can help it.

Carbohydrates are not unhealthy. In fact, it's hard to survive without them.

The thing is, it's not the government's job to tell parents how to feed their children. I feed my children fairly healthy choices, however, it is my right to feed them what I want to feed them. A government that can force food choices can force way too much.

Sugar is an example of a carbohydrate. Please learn nutrition before you spout off nonsense.

The Atkins diet (the initiation phase during which you eat almost no carbohydrates) is hard on your body. You can't live on the no carb version of it for more than a few months without vitamin supplements. It's also rough on your liver. The later version of Atkins (after the first few weeks) does allow carbohydrates. Admittedly, most of us eat way too much in the way of processed carbohydrates, which is a different issue.

(we aren't carnivores, we are omnivores, and need a varied diet. For example, unlike most other carnivores, we cannot synthesize our own Vitamin C. We need to get it from our diet. Meat does not have enough Vitamin C for us to be healthy)

you've just made a great point on exactly why the government should not be giving out food advice. when the government gets it wrong it gets it wrong for everyone. if excess carbs contributes to diabetes, the government is ostensibly responsible for a lot of disease and misery.

thank you, oh wise government, for your dietary guidelines...

You can take vitamin C and other supplements without eating carbs. And there is nothing more unhealthy or "hard on your body" than being overweight.
