Funny. You just ask someone to provide specifics and then you post your own claim without specifics. LOL.

You have two chances of seeing a redacted copy of the bill in question --slim and none. Slim just left town.

has nothing to do with being government run, if private care was force to cover the elderly, your insurance would be through the roof

Oh I know. He's full of shineola. There is no way a hospital charged $42K for a hernia surgery. Hell, two of the hospitals in the hospital system I work for are two of the best in the country and one is considered one of the best in the world and we don't charge anywhere near that much.

yep, sure could find a cheaper clinic to do the work... but most choose the hospital

I actually had a women from where I got dental work call me almost in tears asking me to call private insurer to help get them to pay bill, I called and they just said, ok covered, but made it a nightmare for her to try and get out of paying, hospitals have huge teams dedicated to fighting with private insurance companies

A poor uninsured American citizen is one thing, an illegal is another.

I will say this, it is hard to shop around for services as private hospitals do not advertise their prices

emergency care should be covered, if I went to another country, I woudl want them to give me emergency care if I needed it - elective surgery obviously they can send you home for

and if they were forced to then they'd be slaves, and that would be illegal.

According to the hospital it was. My guess if they paid out of pocket, it's be more then half the cost.

Only Canucks who go to the US for medical care are the wealthy who want to use their priviledge to jump the line here

Over 1/2 the hospitals in the US are non-profit.

What insurance company covered her after the procedure!?!? Why would hospitals fight the insurance companies? Don't they want to get paid?

and yes, find some place cheaper...don't go the hospital for the flu first...go to your primary doctor.

I don't go to Mexico and expect free emergency care. You would expect emergency care in another country to be free?

No. Actually they are the same. Illegals can buy insurance.
But I think you could make an argument that for a variety of reasons they don't.

An illegal is not the same. An illegal shouldn't be here. They don't have rights to anything. An illegal should get treatment in prison.

I have not experienced a line getting surgery in America so apparently your demand for medical treatment exceeds the supply and people wait in queues to get treated.

Yes. It is one thing to argue we have a responsibility to treat our own citizens, and something else altogether to argue we have a responsibility to treat anyone worldwide who can make their way to an American hospital.

That doesn’t say much for your doctors/hospitals if you didn’t have somewhat of a wait for a non emergent surgery. Meaning I doubt there are many surgeons sitting around with nothing to do waiting for patients to come knocking. I had to wait a week for my hernia surgery. Again it was non emergent and it was only a week which I was grateful for since it was a tad painful when it flared up.
