I agree with your points about legislators irresponsibly engaging in unjustifiable wars. They should have to personally suffer consequences for such actions. But that we should re-instate a draft just doesn't follow at all. From what I understand 70% of the population does not support most of the recent wars in which the US government has involved us, which just goes to show that most people in the U.S. support a government that defies the will of most of its citizens. This is cognitive dissonance. Yes, if you support a war you should probably fight in it. But to punish most Americans for suffering from a mild mental disorder, by forcing them to fight in a war they don't support, is just another evil.

 

Re instating the draft doesn't mean you have to go to war.We had the selective service system before Viet Nam and after WW2...What it does is give military training and discipline to people that need it.So,if we do come into a war,we have ready trained troops.

Wars of genocide and forced relocation of the survivors to permanent camps. Granted, some of those native Americans could be fierce warriors, just ask Kit Carson, but there were plenty of massacres of innocent natives that could hardly be considered valorous acts. I'm sure that your grandfather was not a coward, nor was mine, who fought in the civil war, but it's not as if either was protecting freedom. Genocide and preventing people from exercising their right to leave an association are hardly exemplary candidates for reinstuting the draft, yet, that is what the draft is for - to force people to serve the state in its wars for resources and conquest.

 

Native Americans were weak and for the taking.....Conquest is natural order,and always will be...survival of the fittest....the draft is to keep a ready reserve army incase of an attack...and to institute discipline in our young people which a parent can't seem to do...
