She would never have an abortion were she not to believe it is her child. Women know precisely why they get them.

I did not tell you that it is my call to make. But I sure wish the law operated properly.

I have been following this topic for a few weeks now, and I am still at a loss to explain why anybody would be so consumed with the desire to control another person's choice. You recognize that you have not earned the authority to decide the fate of every pregnant woman, but you want to take away her rights anyway.

Some guys oppose abortion because they believe women are like cattle, to be owned and to breed "calves" for them. I do not think that applies to you.

Some guys oppose abortion because they use the pregnancy (and resulting child) to lock the woman into the relationship so they can relax and be themselves, safe in the knowledge that she will be stuck no matter how selfish and abusive he becomes. I do not think that applies to you.

Some people oppose abortion because they see it as a way to force their neighbors to lead "moral" lives. If abortion is illegal, they think, people will be afraid to have sex outside marriage and the world will be a better place. These people forget that they do not have the moral authority to enforce their own moral standards on their neighbors. Although you used arguments in this category, I am not convinced that this defines your position. I think it more likely that you tried to use this line of argument because you were looking for some way to justify abrogating the rights of the pregnant woman.

Some people oppose abortion because they have been manipulated by sad stories and pictures of an aborted fetus. No matter how much the fetus looks like a tiny human being, it does not have the qualifications to contain a sentient mind until it has developed the wiring and the chemistry of the brain. The best scientific evidence tells us that the fetus (prior to the third trimester) is an empty vessel under construction. I suspect you may object so strongly to abortion because you believe you are protecting a defenseless individual (even before the brain is functional). If that is the case, then we should be discussing your true reason for objecting, instead of the red herring of tax burden.

Do you object to abortion because you believe there is a person (or perhaps a soul) in place from the moment of conception?

I have said it before. I believe the unborn is the most innocent. It is not there due to it being at fault. Also, a bit more story. I have seen the destruction to relationships upon the woman having the abortion.

While some posters see her happy and full of smiles that she got rid of her child, she knows for certain she killed her child.
Some woman who do this a lot may escape guilt. But guilt carried by the woman can lead to suicide.

While I never attempted to lay a guilt trip on the women I personally know who got abortions, the toll on them was easy to detect if you cared. A woman praying for God to forgive her for the abortion hits pretty deep emotionally. She was really upset. She had her reasons for the abortion but she felt lousy.

I feel that once conceived, we should treat the unborn the same as a born child. I was once a hard core left winger that only voted for Democrats but once I converted to republican, I felt stupid over thinking the unborn was something akin to a waste product for the woman to discard.

OK....so your not religious and you do not feel that women should not have a say in their reproductive process.

To me, the woman thinks about her reproductive process once she learns the system of her body. She has plenty of scientific help. She has ultra simple ways to avoid being pregnant. She can slip a day after pill in her mouth and keep her secret too. But showing up knocked up is terrible.

 

And what of the 13 year old girl who is raped by her uncle or father and becomes pregnant?

Are you going to say she must carry the fetus to term?
