Except you did exactly what I claimed you did - didn't you?

YOu got the idea from an atheist web site, which you acknowlegde seeing, and you conducted a proximity search to find words in single sentence non-contextual quotes. Now, How do you think I knew you were using a proximity search before you acknowledged it?

And the very first quote we are directed to has great big sign hanging next to it that clarifies the word choice - from the Bible you have read cover to cover dozens of times.

We also have differing versions of the Bible that clearly chose the non-uncorn version of the text, as spelled out in end note in the KJB. Why do you think this is? Who knows ... you are busy hurling denials rather than explanations.

And still others are pointing out that there are animals, etc. that resemble these things and are not the mythological creatures you present them to be.

And, in the OP, you can scarcely believe these things yourself (apparently with good reason), but you want to teach this to kids to get them reading about ... what exactly? Where is Jesus in this message? Where are his teachings?

You do understand that there is a reason that Sunday Schools across America do NOT teach what you have written here?

But I am big meanie whom you can scarcely control yourself from insulting for pointing these things out?

Christians don't believe in unicorns because of the gospel.

Yes you ability to predict the obvious is truely impressive. As was the obvious of your joke. Sometime, just being mean is simply not funny.

Yep, and a quick google search and I can find all of them. How many do I need to find? How many have to have the exact same quotations as you before it is apparent that the source of your idea was not, "So I was sitting there reading the Bible when inspiration struck!"

Why do you think I know that sites like that exist? Or are you so busy defending your honor that you have missed the fact that the very quotations you want to 'teach' kids are already being taught by atheists to mock and belittle people.

So again I ask you, why are you highlighting the most extreme interpretation of the Bible mythological referrences as if there is some important message that unicorns are supposed to give us?

I really could not give one rip about the D&D Bible. I have no problem with D&D, but then I do not think people are running around with swords taking quests as a method of living a life or wisdom. Its a game.

The Bible? That is not a game. But heh, if you show up in church dressed like an Elf, let me know how that goes.

A team. We serve others not ourselves. And the more you serve others the more you serve yourself.

Well, is that a nice pluf for self worship? What does the Bible say about it? Does it say, just be yourself that is OK no matter what you choose we will warmly and affectionately tell you its OK? You tell me?

" 23 “I have the right to do anything,” you say—but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything”—but not everything is constructive. 24 No one should seek their own good, but the good of others."
    (1 Corinthians 10:23-24)

No. I explained to you what happened, and it is NOT a "proximity search". I explained that to you as well. What I did, was ONLY search for the words I was looking for, and landed on the best quote within those results to exemplify with as little metaphorical extrapolation as possible. It is not a big surprise that you will find other references to those specific lines.

Your comprehension is the problem, not my replies.

Them? We are moving from unicorns to... everything? Not quite.

    I explained.

This isn't the game. This is a different game.

No. You are just rude, judgemental, weak on scripture, and wise in your own eyes.

Yes, some do. You keep marginalizing a great many people who believe that if it is in their bible... most of which being the KJV... it is the word of God. Roman Catholics as well. I don't think you understand that YOU do not speak for Christianity.... probably because of the above.

You poor little victim. Am I oppressing you?

You will certainly find other references to these quotes. They are in the bible. They have been there for quite some time.

You can invent whatever little scenario in your head you like. You mock and belittle fundamentalists, and then claim authority to speak for them. You clearly spend a lot of time copying and pasting. I am going to chalk it up to projection.

Are you whining because most people don't use your preferred bible?
I told you why already. It was what I grew up with, it is what I am most familiar with, and it is what most people use.

You are so right. Kids shouldn't imagine they are battling lions or fighting Giants in the name of the Lord. They should be playing xbox. Whatever was I thinking?

There are no elves in the bible. Is it your suggestion that something bad would happen if I showed up to a church in such a costume?

You believe that your demeanor is serving someone other than yourself?

That is nothing even close to what I said. What I said was, you are being a dick, not because of who I am, but because of who you are.

Way to round off the straw man.
    1 Peter 3
9 Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing.

    Romans 12
16 Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits.

    Bless you.

So, you both did but did not use a proximity search exactly as charged? Or not? You did not refer us all to Biblegateway, and tell us that the word 'unicorn' pops up 9 times in the KJV but only 3 times in the NIV, which, of course, you gathered by reading the Bible cover to cover and counting rather than using a proximity search?

And the context of the verses you site is listed where?

And teh hard print KJV, which states the oxen translation rather than unicorn?

Might tere be period specific reasons for King James to have used that word? Why so many of the other versions do not use that word, and why the KJV has a note attached to the translation?

And these are questions raised by your first verse, upon which we are supposed to accept the validity that the D&D Bible is actually quite simiar to the Bible - based on a proximity serach?

Rightm because those who disagree with you are all idiots? Oh, I can feel the love? Would that be appropriate now?

And you question my comprehension abilities? A one horned horse or goat, or any number of horned animals could also be the reference. This is difficult is it?

No, you excused, and I rebutted.

That has what? to do with what is and is not taught in Sunday School?

Oh, you are not wrong, I am a flawed human being for disagreeing with you? And you tell me that I am weak on scriptures? From a guy who is parroting atheism and calling it education about the Bible/

Most people are able to pick up on the allegorical nature of teh referrences, or are sharp enough to see teh attached notes to the words in the text. Go figure.

You keep maligning those who are not strict literalists. And totally devoid from your arguementation is any resoning as to why we should accept ... unicorns as legitimate?

Apparently, because, if we do not, you will tell us we are weak and do not know the scripture. Believe my interpretation or I will insult you, that is simple Bible abuse.

Is that supposed to be another 'joke'? Who is whining about being criticized for using a poximity search .... while using a proximity serach? Opression indeed.

No (*)(*)(*)(*). But we cannot get you to explain your first quote can we? KJV = ox not unicorn. So why use it to bolster your claims? Unicorn isn't even the best fit in context is it?

Who is speaking for whom? Because you appear to be telling me what I am and am not doing as if ... oh, wait, this is another mind reading joke.

Let me clarifiy in simplicity, taking literal interpretations of mythological creatures, particularly to engage in D&D fantasy's, is not something that the Bible supports. And you are no Creationist, are you?

So what mantel are you claiming?

I don;t believe I have stated which Bible I prefer have I? I have asked you to justify why you use this version, which has contextual footnotes that lessons your own arguement, to make the arguement - to address the translation errors AS SPELLED OUT IN THE KJV.

Oh wait, I hate people who don;t take the literal approach by burying the footnotes in the KJV? Nice.

That has what to do with unicorn appearing over destroyed Nations? No far better to sit in basements fighting imaginary creatures rather than learning to serve others, to learn kindness, compassion, the ACTUAL MESSAGE OF JESUS.

You'd be laughed at, particularly if you said, "What, D&D is the Bible!"

Confronting misinformation in a debate forum is selfish is it?

#1 - who is being the dick? Are you oppressed? Funny, its appropriate just a few sentences above?

#2 - People are not a dick because they disagree with you.

the crticisms I have levelled against your position have been shown subsequently to be quite accurate. Again, what did you expect when you come to a debate forum with the idea that D&D and literal interpretations of mythological creatures?

Nope, you are not thin skinned, anyone who rejects the contention is a dick. About right?

And what are you doing? (Other than using a proximity search again?)

    Here is one for you:

    Drive out the mocker, and out goes strife;
quarrels and insults are ended. (Proverbs 22:10)

I love how you think Biblical standards don't apply to you though.

    Underlying ?

I can't look into this source, google books has no review of this book.(Matthew)

Which verse do you find the word "magic ?" You mean sorcery or magician ?

The serpent is associated with evil, the devil,etc... and they attribute those things to the black arts but there is the actual venomous reptile as well .. lol :)

Sounds a bit on the mythicism side but ... I think it is actually 'burning' serpent. (saraph: to burn)

Or even a snake .. lol

    Context doesn't allow for

i.e "And the Lord sent [Sorcerer/Sorceress – Priest/Priestess] among the people, and they bit the people; and much people of Israel died.

    i.e "Who led thee through that great and terrible wilderness, wherein were [Priest/Priestess], and scorpions, and drought, where there was no water; who brought thee forth water out of the rock of flint;

ie. "And the Lord said unto Moses, Make thee a [Sorcerer/Sorceress – Priest/Priestess], and set it upon a pole: and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he looketh upon it, shall live.

Hey Ctrl: Why have you not answered my question posted here:

"In other words, why would you want someone to put their private matters out on public display so that those private things can be ridiculed? Ridiculing is a predominant aspect of the postings that occur on this forum, especially in regard to religious matters and beliefs."

To the Op, without the un-Biblical illustrations, what gives?
And to the last submission, the NIV describes oxen, not unicorns.

On the other side of your last breath the truth will be revealed. For some it will be too late. The torment that awaits you will be mind boggling.

We don't. One kid with an infatuation with D&D does. Even he admits that he doesn't believe in them in the OP.

They are called analogies - parables - symbols.

It really depends on whether you read to understand or read to mock - no surprising which side of that atheists are on.

I think the issues with the Bible addressed in this thread can be explained by the following:

It is not correct to interpret the Bible literally in all cases, context of a particular scripture is important when determining when to take literally and when not to. Metaphors are very common in the Bible.

Issues with interpretation of the original text. For instance, unicorn actually refers to a wild ox. Consider how many interpretations of the Bible we have. We have to go back to the original text to make further judgments about a certain passage of scripture.

I know this is an old post, but as I wad reading. It seemed no one really responded much to the orginal matter. I'm no expert, but as I have studied the Bible, in both the Hebrew and the English translation, I have found that some Hebrew words do not have a good English translation and it seems the KJV writers tried to find the closest English word they could find. Unicorn comes from the Latim word "unus" one + "cornu" horn (Webster's New World dictionar) Could it be possible that the KJV translators meant for unicorn to mean a one horned creature and not necessarily a methical creature? Could the word "dragon" not be what we now call dinosaurs, for the word dinosaur was not in use when the KJV was written? Also, in referance to zombies, in the Bible people are raised from the dead, but nothing that I have read describes them as walking dead, decaying beings. They seem to be raised to normal people. ( Except those who will be raised when Jesus returns and they receive a incorruptable, immortal body I Corinthians15onaryw)

You may have studied the bible, but have you studied religions?
For, one can make any word that doesn't directly translate to english most anything they want.
Eg, the word almah. Has many meanings in english.

I have only studied other religions a little. Yes, it is true people can translate things wrongly, that's why it is good to study the language it was originally written in. I have to say from what I have studied, the KJV seems to be a very accurate translation.

The Bible says that the Earth is the oldest object in the universe and that plant life was created before the Sun and any of the stars in the universe. Since Adam was made from dirt and Eve was made from one of his ribs the animals in the Bible sound legit.

Atheist me has a simple view take all the Bible on face value LITERALLY like any other holy book, including the crazy bits and morality in them. Its your book if one bit is BS then its all suspect. Same for morality to me if it is full of immoral acts of god or orders to his people then the roots of the faith is as rotten. I can excuse the Psalms, Proverbs and Song of Solomon as poetic art or advice. But if there were giant men, a mass flood covering ALL land or Egypt struck low by plagues then prove it or shut the hell up and admit its BS like the HARRY POTTER books or THE OZ BOOKS.

Most of those named animals in the King James version are a poor translation of the original Greek and Hebrew words.
